There is a fix for the gear indicator problem , take off the front sprocket cover you will see the gear sensor , undo the black electrical tape to expose the connectors unplug them undo the sensor (14mm) remove the washer and screw it back in reconnect wires new electrical tape and bolt sprocket cover back on , and enjoy

Chase said it well about CFMOTO... they're about 85-90% the quality of the proven Japanese brands. And you get a discount to offset that difference. 2nd year with my CFMOTO Ibex 800T and I love it.

I can approve this message. Going from a used Kawasaki 650R to my 700 CLX Sport, I love almost every aspect of this new bike. He might just have bad luck getting a cheap used one. But hey, you cannot beat 2500 price. I'd get it in a blink as well. I paid 8000 for my Sport brand new on a big sale (taxes everything included).

I picked up a 2023 for $6k otd with 1mile back in March. I have around 4500 miles on it now. The 2023 and up has three rider modes. They added off-road mode in which you can turn off rear ABS as well as adding a button to turn off traction control in any rider mode. I haven't had the gear indicator/cruise issue yet. Seems to be a bigger problem with the first gen models. I really really have enjoyed the bike so far through daily commuting and lots of hard twisties riding out here on the California coast. I had my bikes suspension setup by a professional suspension tuner for my weight and riding style and it has made the bike feel even better.

@Lifeofbirch ive purchased the 700clx about a year ago now. The gear Shifter messing with the indicator is a faulty Gear shift sensor. I almost sold mine back to the dealer cause it almost threw me off on the freeway cause the cruise control got confused. i had to record a video to show the dealer cause they didn't believe me. it will get worse if you leave it be. please replace it before yours decides to try and buck you off.

You should get the sport model in new, and you'll be as happy as I am. It did have an ABS issue, and CFmoto recalled it, and it's been fine ever since. I've never had the gearing issue you have, which could be the reason yours is only 2500. Neutral sometimes might have issue especially when it runs hot. But It's still way better than the Harley or Yamaha cruisers we've had. Talking about support, CFMOTO is the only Chinese motorcycle manufacturer entering the US as a company itself. It'd be great if you can find an authorized CFmoto dealer in your area. Mine did my recall and it's been pleasure experience. CFmoto had been making BIG name in the ATV and UTV world for years. Their motorcycle is fairly new, and I had to say they are not the no.1 quality even in China, but given their reputation in the ATV world, they would catch up soon especially when they got more KTM stuff in. QJ made better motor and they collaborate with Harley, but we do not have them in the US yet.

I wanted this bike a lot. It is beautiful. But after reading an endless list of problems many people were having a ditched those plans and got an MT07. I'm interested in an easy going, cruise local touring kind of ride and thought the 700CLX would be better and I think the bike even looks better. I love the seat and it looks more comfy for 2up riding. But the reliability just killed it for me. Went with the MT07 as my first bike (wanted an MT09 and low power mode but could only convince my wife with used MT07 prices). I hope to have a Ducadi Diavel 1260S one day! Anyone with the 700CLX, I hope it is awesome for you!

I have a '22 XSR900 that I was lucky enough to get at a great price from a Yamaha employee who already had five bikes in his garage. Believe the hype; the XSR900 can be a cruiser, a standard, a low-powered bike, a trackday bike, a tourer. The power modes are very interesting and I don't think riders use them enough. I basically switch the power modes all the time depending on conditions but often have it at the lowest power mode in the twisties.

I will say that the throttle mapping for the throttle by wire is kinda weird but it seems to be a lot better when you turn the traction control off. I have been looking into the Team MSC and Throttle Punks ecm tunes as they are supposed cure the weird throttle mapping issues as well as 7+hp gains. Throttle Punks also makes a custom high flow intake to go along with their tune. T-Rex Racing makes a crash cage, skid plate and sliders for this bike. Also there are some U.S. mfgs working on exhausts for these.

I think the clx 700 is a great looking bike. And it has cruise control and its competitors dont. Its a cheap sporty bike and fun. Ypu can get these dirt cheap like under $4k new the carry over models right now. That is a steal. CFMOTO is a legit contender in the bike world now imo. They are really making strives. I bought the CLX700 Sport and 450SS. I really like both of them. The CLX has the issue with the gear indicator. The 450 SS had a defected clutch cable that was quickly replaced with warranty. For the issues you are having with the neutral, sounds you are having the same problem. The 700 could have a better quick stand angle but i dont have any problem with it. I dont have any issue on any of them either, like yours with the badge almost falling off. I am very happy with both of them.

And i was sure the display said neutral before starting. The look on the rep's face was priceless. I'm glad i bought the '22 as i love the gold wheels. It's too bad they didn't carry over.

The bike starts and runs flawlessly, and gives me confidence it will easily pull 25k without needing anything besides routine maintenance. The fit and finish continues to impress me. That being said, the kickstand lean angle is a VERY real problem and frustratingly simple design flaw.

When coming to a stop, I always put the motorcycle in first gear, and then I kick the side stand down. The engine will/should turn off, and the bike will be 'locked' in place. That will stop the bike from rolling forward on the stand. When starting a bike, I always put the bike in neutral and pull the clutch in. I will gently let the clutch out if I don't plan to move off straight away.

So sometimes I have to activate them twice when coming up to a turn, one while slowing down and another once I'm almost stopped. It is kind of annoying.

I’m old. I like a rear fender instead of the license plate hanging on a weird arm. 100 years ago Harley developed the Jiffy Stand™️. When there’s weight on the stand it cannot be retracted. N00bs to H-D are freaked out about it until they get used to it. I’m guessing that like many bikes, including my Moto Guzzi, the gear position is calculated by speed and rpm. It doesn’t know what gear it is in until it can compare the speed to the rpm. As someone who follows racing I’m a fan of CFMoto in Moto3 and Moto2. Finally I don’t care what anyone thinks of my bikes.

Aftermarket support for cfmoto motorcycles in America sucks but go here in Asian countries you'll find a lot of them. Here in the Philippines for example in terms of exhaust, we have ZeroOne's Villain exhaust. One will say their clip on exhaust looks like cheap knockoffs of other brands but they're very well made and can go hand in hand with brands like SC Project or AR exhaust. As long as you have the cash, they can help you get what you want for your bike. Accessories to full systems, they can make them or have the connections to acquire them for you.

my cfmoto 300ss and 450ss was flawless except for the super agressive riding position but that is a personal preference. I traded it in for a rebel 1100t and im happy with that. I still keep the 300 for when im want a sportier ride and the rebel just cruises.

Cheap and inexpensive are two different things... 15-18 years ago I wouldn't have bought a Chinese bike. But they have been seriously hitting hard in the market, quality and price point, simply incredible... I have had three of them so far!! And have not regretted these purchases at all! If you have a ton of money, sure you can buy any bike. But still, some Chinese bikes are really good looking...😊

2 weeks for replacements really doesn't sound that bad. Consider the East overseas suppliers like Triumph, BMW, Ducati. Yep, they wait even longer. My Tiger sat for a month waiting for parts 2 years ago. Was it the ole 'p' causing the issues? Probably some. Historically, there's always been a 'lengthy' wait. (we live in a give it to me now culture)

You can find lightly used Moto Guzzi V7 under 6k ton of character and style with legendary brand.People always quote MSRP knowing once out of the dealer you just lost 2k on dealers fees.I suggest buy lightly used bikes and avoid the fees.Recently I was looking to buy RE classic 350 in MA but after freight documentation etc 4500 bike became 6k and I walked out....Not paying 600 dollars for "documentation" serious robbery.

They had the 400s on "sale" for 4k. By the time you pay all the fees and interest the thing costs over 6k. No thank you. Bought an old 800 Suzuki from a coworker and fixed it up. Very happy with my $500 bike

About the kickstand - if it allows you to start and go in gear with the kickstand out, I'd say it's an oversight. I'd much rather have a system that kills the engine/doesn't let it start if it detects it's in gear and has the kickstand out... ... like the yamahas do As you said - 80% of the bike, for 80% of the price. I am really torn by that ngl, because I also was looking at one of these. They're incredibly cheap here in europe, dropping below 6k usd (post taxes) because people just don't quite buy enough to sell the inventory fast enough.

i definently think that the issues are different when it comes to the sport and the stock heritage becuase the only issue that i run into with my 700clx sport is the cruise control. also from what ive seen from other riders if you get the gear indicator replaced it fixes that issue

Your cons are valid but you are missing a few things. Most important is that your 2022 bike has a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. Before that 2 years is up purchase the additional 4 year Extended Warranty. Here in NY it costs only $580. Take it to one of the over 200 dealers in the US and get the Cruise Control issue resolved. CFMOTO has been around for over 20 years making quads and side x sides. In January 2024 they announced a majority partnership with Yamaha to build and sell bikes in China. To avoid the potential "Chinese junk" branding instead of making their own components they wisely outsourced by building the CLX with KYB suspension, Continental ABS, Bosch fuel injection, Pirelli tires, and licensing this motor from Kawasaki. I now have 18,875 miles on my CLX since October 2022. Nearly 10k of those miles were put on the bike between October and March during the long cold Upstate New York winter when I had no troubles at all. I still have the Cruise Control Gear indicator problem after they installed the completely redesigned gear sensors and engine case. But CFMOTO is still trying. So far they have replaced the sensors numerous times, the entire wiring harness, throttle assembly, and ECU. The dealer has called to say they are waiting for the MCU which feeds data to the gauge/dashboard. For other problems they also changed both intake manifolds and the fuel sensor under the original warranty. I can say with absolute certainty that the Cruise Control/Gear Indicator is a heat related issue. I put thousands of miles on the bike over the long cold Upstate New York winters without a single episode. As soon as the temperatures go above 70°F it acts up but only in 6th gear for extended distances above 75mph. I've done 450+ miles in a single day on public roads with little traffic ranging from 35mph-55mph in 4th through 6th gears without a problem. It was 92° on July 9th 2024 and I rode 18 miles at 55mph in 6th gear with no problem. I got on the NYS Thruway and less than 10 miles into my trip with the Cruise Control set at 80mph with no traffic the bike went into limp mode. It's the heat. I really rely on the Cruise due to rheumatoid arthritis in my hands so I keep testing/trying/helping them find the solution. If more owners went to their dealers to have the updated parts installed there would be more data for CFMOTO to process and hopefully they'll spend more to find the solution. Thanks for your honest review and please keep posting more of them.

The “bike thinking its neutral but it’s in 1st” does happen to me with my Svartpilen. I always start the bike using the clutch, so no problem there, but that has happened to me at stoplights making the bike stall and making me looking like a noob lol. Also it’s a pain with the Svart to find neutral. In the end I think that CF Moto sources several parts from KTM, so it could be a general KTM issue.

The biggest problem with CFMoto, looking beyond Andy issues as a new/young company, is largely the geopolitical context of them being a Chinese company. Whether that’s something worth discussing on a motorcycle channel is another matter entirely, but that is why much of the hostility toward the company exists, and it is only amplified on the threads complaining about their reliability issues. CFMoto, like the country they’re based out of, is guilty of IP theft by rehashing these bikes. It’s so apparent that the 800NK (believe I have the right model) used KTM branded oil filters because it was essentially the 790 Duke that KTM manufactures in China. Even some statements made by KTM alluded to acceptance that rhe 790 Duke would receive this treatment upon sourcing its production to China. While this might not entirely be the case across all of their bikes, the company, as per standard in China, is at least partially owned by the Chinese government, thereby directly supporting the USA’s ideological/economic rival. For many people, this is a nonstarter despite not articulating it in a KZfaq/social media comment. For the question of why it’s so cheap comparatively, China has used an economic policy of deflating their currency to drown out other competitors with how cheap their products can be. Combine that with a less-than-stellar record on employee treatment and the fact the bike was essentially developed by another brand for you, and you have a recipe for a cheap bike.

Lack of CF Moto credibility could also stem from the fact that by comparison all the major motorcycle brands have put in the work over decades with R&D and that shows in the attention to detail of their finished products. I can't speak for others, but that alone earns my trust and willingness to pay a little more for one of those brands.
