The only way I was able to achieve purse peace was to sell all my luxury bags. I NEVER worry about the weather, who I am with, where I am going, who might be drinking too much and a bunch of other concerns. I currently have 6 inexpensive, versatile bags. The freedom I feel is priceless.

Haha, not sure how fascinating this is, Caitlin. I made myself a nervous wreck trying to use my bags. I worried about being knocked over in a grab and run, I worried about someone hitting the bags with a pen and my fantasy self didn’t get a lot of use due to my casual lifestyle. I think it's about our mindset, it's a limiting belief actually but I've realized I'm always going to be like this ... and to lose money? That's even worse than babysitting those bags!

Ferragamo Studio bag is my Birkin. It has a detachable crossbody strap, the leather is superb, and it's just as classy for a fraction of the price. I got mine on sale at Saks for less than a thousand.

I sold all my Hermes Birkins and Kelly’s. I had way too much anxiety with these bags and to be honest, they really aren’t functional for me to carry. I do not regret it at all.

It's a handbag. If you're too worried to use it because of the cost, or if using it hurts, what's the point? Just put it in a safe and treat it like an investment, to sell later on. It's not serving you as a functional item. It's not serving any normal income people as an everyday item, which a handbag should be.

Happened to me too. Once the desire of owning one of these has settled i felt lost. It surprisingly didnt change my lifestyle much except that i start buying all these leather protection products and up my house content insurance and make sure ill always turn my security alarm on every time i go out. Its not worth it.

I got my B 25 in black togo GHW this December directly from the boutique and after tax refund it was about 7,000 euros… I used it all the time and lost the fear of wearing it. I would NEVER pay resale value for, it’s just crazy to pay 3-4 times the amount of the original cost. It did hurt my arm muscles the first times I used it, but I loved it because it was a good workout for my arms. Now my arms are stronger and I can carry the bag without any issues

@@CaitlinPawlowski just swap the sides, it's about being aware of your body. You must be a very driven personality to detach from simply changing sides or position for comfort. It's easy to do and should be almost automatic as a response to mild discomfort and stop it from becoming a major discomfort. (not a personal criticism, just trying to help and yes I can detach too from my body; it's important to keep grounded).

Love ur honesty. I experience physical pain wearing chain strapped bags and i cannot buy or wear them as cute as they are. Hearing you talk about the pain of holding that bag around...i get it...and finally a real review about the weight and lack of practicality of it.

The power of the irrational when it comes to bags (and many other purchases) has to be acknowledged. Sometimes, that desire is there and we simply can't talk or reason ourselves out of it, and that's FINE. I've been feeling the same way about a couple of items for a couple of years, reasoning my way out of purchasing them, but I can't stop obsessing over them either. The moral of this video, sometimes we just want the darn thing and it feels great to have it. So, thank you. I'm going to get the aforementioned but unspecified darn things. ;)

based on the Birkin's creation story, I don't understand its design - Jane Birkin wanted an easy, grab-and-go bag that wouldn't spill all over the place, and they designed a heavy, top-handle bag without any pockets that hurts to carry?

Well one aspect that is nice to it is that the flap is designed to catch most everything if it falls over. Like where it’s tucked in like she has it in the video. If it falls over it won’t spill.

I will just enjoy these eye candies. I'm just LV and YSL range and I'm quite happy with it🥰. I guess for collectors, Hermes is the peak bec only a few can shell out that much money on a bag. Like not all rich people have Birkins but those who are willing to put that much money on a bag are true collectors,Hermes lovers and those that yearn for the ultimate they can get. For aesthetics, LV and YSL really draw my eye. Between Chanel and Hermes, Chanel is more my vibe but my YSLs already took care of that.

I totally agree with you. Great video. I sold my 35cm Birkins because they were so heavy! My back and arms hurt a lot. So instead I bought a 25cm Birkin and 2 Kellys 28cm and they are a lot lighter - so I enjoy them better. But still use my shoulder Chanels more than any other bags as they are light and comfortable to wear all day.

Thank you for your honesty. It is very refreshing to get the real world perspective of use. Super Grateful. I kick myself on the trendy cc in lamb skin that I bought and hardly wear to this day. Love the bag and at the time was a heavy price tag lift-5.5k usd. I could never stomach spending 4 times that amount with not feeling comfortable enough to use it or enjoy it. I will say love to whip out my cc when I want to feel extra. 😀 enjoy your Birkin in your terms

I saw a lady walking from the Victoria train station in London with a super beat up birkin 35 or 40 stuffed to the brim on top of her luggage and the bag was very floppy and well used. It made me think I hope one day I get as much use with my 25 as she has with hers. It looked well loved.

After buying several Hermes bags, I’ve realized they are waaaaaaay overrated. They are poorly functional: the Kelly is super hard to get in and out of, and the birkin doesn’t have a shoulder carry option. I wouldn’t recommend them. Chanel bags also age terribly just like Hermes. So I actually don’t wear my Hermes or chanel bags much. I always gravitate back to Louis Vuitton, where I can enjoy classy luxurious functional bags that fit my lifestyle and age BEAUTIFULLY

As cancer ♋️ woman I recommend keeping it, we love to collecting stuff, but we will start use it at the end. it’s always good to know that you have the option to use it, but you didn’t use it that day. I regret selling items because I wanted to wear them couple of years after selling them 😅

I have just discovered this passion for luxury bags and am fascinated by the psychology behind it all. I have never owned a luxury bag and most likely never will. If I ever get a wild hair, I'd probably get a pre-owned bag. However, I do love purses and bought so many over the years. I now go for much smaller bags, and though the brands aren't luxury, they are fabulous brands, affordable, and are definitely quality: Brahmin, Patricia Nash, and Brighton. Quality leather bags with such artistry that I continually get compliments. Especially when I carry Patricia Nash bags. And I do appreciate your honesty about these luxury bags. It's refreshing to hear someone admit the truth, based on all the videos I've watched!

I am happy to see you growing and evolving in your fashion decisions. I have changed my mind few years ago about the B & K, as they won't be used for my lifestyle. Some colours are really gorgeous and the quality is absolutely there, however I would not be enjoying using them much. I used to own a blue kelly and omg, she was so heavy. I had to think where to wear it to, and make sure I don't have to walk a lot carrying it, as it will become heavy. I haven't get rid of it for years, as a cancer sign I felt I would regret it if I did. So kept it in my wardrobe for years, but used it the least among all my other bags. I got to a point, where I was able to sell it, and since I did, I had 0 regrets. I would agree to keep it in your collection for now, give yourself the time to elaborate if you will sell it or not, no rush 😉 I would like to buy Chanel bags, but seeing all their quality issues and no aftercare service, I don't want to waste my money like that. So for now, I am looking at other brands and enjoying every single bag I have. Once Chanel improves their quality, I will consider going back to their boutiques. Super Dakob and Jessiestyle shared great videos on the Chanel latest price increase!

I was lucky enough to buy a Hermès Evelyn pm from the boutique ( I know not everyone’s favorite bag) however I love it, great crossbody bag! True story. I went to Hawaii in 2005 and saw a chocolate pebble leather Birkin 30 in the Hermes store Waikiki. It was $7k. The 2 salespersons really wanted me to get it. I liked it a lot but didn’t get it. I had regrets afterwards upon finding out how in demand this bag is , wait list, and buying other Hermes items to build up credential. However, I am glad I didn’t pull the trigger regardless the resale value and “prestige”. I like to change bags and style of bags. I can’t stick to one or just a few. I love leather bags, canvas totes, straw and raffia material bags, and nylon (Longchamp, backpacks and Fanny packs) as long as they are not heavy. All my friends thought my leather bags were stylish and expensive even though they aren’t luxury designer bags (I don’t buy dupes fake or look alike bags).

Togo leather is quite durable to rain and other weather factors. The spa also does a great job with touch ups and repairs .

There are certain bags the very expensive rare or exotic pieces that we don’t want to damage or scratch, but when I think about it I bought this bag for a reason and this year I may wear the bag twice but the following year it’s on repeat. I guess it all depends on your mood! Beautiful color, it’s like a coral red ❤

Aside from the heaviness and price I find it so interesting that people who own Birkin's treat them fragile unlike the real Jane Birkin who used it as her everyday bag.

Great video! Thank you for being honest in this review. From your perspective and experience with your Birkin, it is clear to me that this may not be the right investment as it can be quite heavy to carry and challenging to incorporate in one’s daily routine. I think how u feel abt it makes perfect sense. For me the "last stop" bag is a chanel bag. I have 1 seasonal bag and 1 seasonal WOC. But I dont feel like I want another, it's my most expensive bag, i dont wear it a lot but I do truly love it and i think its gorgeous. It's as you said, a dream bag, it makes u feel bougee. Like you feel a little proud and happy to own it and wear it.

I’ve gotten my Birkins, Kellys, etc from the Hermes boutique for about 7,000 U.S. dollars. I do fold the dust bag inside out and keep in the bag if I have to set it on the floor or something. Carry and enjoy your bag. I throw mine around. Lol

Beautiful bag. You will come to the point in your life where Birkins and Kellys fit in with your lifestyle. I own 5 Bs and 2 Ks...and I can wear them anywhere because the events I attend....don't have drunk people acting outrageous. When you have concerns about bringing your bag to events, I would put it up until you are in a more "simple" lifestyle.😎

I think it would be an interesting experiment if you carried this bag every day for a year and let yourself treat it as a 'normal' bag. I think seeing it develop wear and tear would be lovely. kind of sounds like it sucks that you have to go through so much stress just to go through whether or not you're gonna take the bag out or Or not It's kind of like my uncle he was talking about how he had a Porsche and he was so stressed out Who is careful where to park is car so that nobody would scratch it eventually sold it and he's much relieved of not being stressed anymore

There’s nothing wrong with not using your designer bags regularly. I have Chanel, LV, Hermes (Picotin /Evelyne PM). I hardly use them but I’ll not get rid of them 🤷🏽‍♀️ I tend to use my reverse mono LV double zip pochette a ton. The others, not so much.

THAT bag is a piece or art!!! You should view it that way. No worries about not wearing it often. You can always look at it as an investment too!! Just be THANKFUL you were able to purchase it. The orange color is gorgeous and you made a wise decision.

I have many Chanel bags I display in glass cases along with paintings on the wall. If someone said to me what I look at and admire more often, it would be my Chanel handbags. I live in Southern California and will not wear them because of safety issues. For that reason, they are now considered to be art, and nothing more. I display all my bags in a glass cabinet so they should be considered a form of art ? and I do have some unique ones. Yes it has a rare heritage and highly sought after as well as unattainable for a lot of people. I think it is its exclusivity that makes it desirable. As for the style and shape of it, well…..

I always appreciate your honesty & I ❤ your channel. I don't own any luxury bags but if I did, I would go the pre-loved route & am lusting for a Puzzle, Saddle or Peekaboo (so 2 of those are understated). Yes, in your city of wine (sorry, that is where my brain goes when I think of your town - nt churches, haha!), people are less likely to be aware of luxury bags. I am an ol' Melb girl & I don't think I would stress carrying a Birkin here. It's a cosmopolitan city where anything goes & folk generally dnt bat an eyelid. Strangely enough I would feel more self conscious with a Chanel bag because of the logo that I feel that it is more universally known outside of the fashion realm as a 'bougie' bag worth $$$. I used to be a person that kept 'good' things to use only on special occasions & then regretted I rarely got to use them. Now if it makes me feel good, I use the item & enjoy having it. Life is too short. It is interesting how we all feel differently about things, isn't it? Life would be boring if we were all the same! Wishing you all the very best.

To me it’s worth it if it makes you happy, smile and feel. I want one. Even if she’s just sitting there. Heck I have plenty of bags I’ve never used lol. Personally if I’m traveling I don’t want to spend my time shopping. I prioritize experiences. If I do have time I’ll do it the very last day and cap it. I’m not the girl that likes to spend my time shopping lol.

4:43 The awkwardness of those bags has always stuck out to me. Whenever I see someone carrying one, I can't help but wonder if it's uncomfortable. Personally I like small, lightweight bags and backbags.

i had a b30 for a bit and it was really too heavy for me (even though I am fairly fit). i now have 2 birkin 25s and i use them a lot. so it was a size issue for me. you could try the b25 out. it really is a lot lighter, and i can get it to almost the crook of my arm even though I am not a slim girl.

U r so so right regarding the weight of the bag. My wrist is very thin and i am 45kg. And yes it gives me red marks. It hurts .. i prefer my b25 alot alot more.

I purchased a fake birkin 30 to see if I like it. No regrets! I realized I wouldn’t purchase one. I believe they are overrated . I would rather invest in other bags!

I haven’t finished watching the video yet, but around the 5 minute mark you begin to discuss the weight of the bag and how heavy it is. I have a bag (different brand, similar enough style) that I have the same issue with. I love and adore it, but it’s just so heavy. So definitely not a bag to take shopping. That’s for lunch, brunch, maybe dinner, or something of the sort where I’m not holding or carrying it for too long. And I’m someone who will use a tote to carry books when I was in school. So that says a lot.

I'm really very glad about the fact that I don't like them 😅 I struggle with my Chanel bags already when I wear them and get paranoid about scratches and such. I still have a leather bowling Chanel that I have not worn ONCE, and that one was "only" 3500 CHF! The insurance cost alone on a Hermes would be insane for it to just sit in a closet.

Thanks for the great vid. I completely understand all the emotions you are feeling but I’m worse, I’ve had my B30 for a year now and have used it zero times. It’s such a weird feeling but I feel like I’m living out of my means, I’ll be judged, and scared to get it ruined. Ridiculous I know bc it’s a bag, but my first H. I have Chanel’s and have never had this weird feeling. I think the cost is what’s driving it, as I know $30k is ridiculous and a price of a new car haha Im contemplating selling it, it know id never buy again so thinking I should just keep it. But it’ll get older and waste of money in the cupboard.

If you have to carefully plan around wearing your bag, it’s not the right one for you imho. It’s an expensive item so you should be comfortable wearing it.

I’ve had one on my wishlist for a while now and haven’t pulled the trigger. Personally if I can’t get one in the store, I don’t want it. And I know I can’t get one because I’m also not going to buy things in there unless I really like them. I love your Birkin though! If I ever got one, I’d want an orange one.

I have a 40 and a 35 and I hardly ever use them because they’re so heavy, especially the 40 cm. I live in a City where I walk everywhere so carrying that much weight around isn’t practical. But I love them and have no plans to get rid of them. After I got my first Birkin I said I’m done, it’s the Holy Grail, I’ll never need another bag again…ha ha 15 years later I’m still buying bags.
