Jay you could've easily sold this for $10 or $20 after giving it some clever name on your website, but instead, you chose to share it with us for free. Thanks for making magic about sharing and experience instead of making money and keeping silly secrets. You rock!

Thank YOU Owen. As you know, my kids have gotta eat SOMETHING, so I do indeed market a bunch of my stuff. But frankly, my brain is so 'stuck' on creating illusions, I can also afford to share some of this stuff for FREE. I really and truly appreciate my fans - and so I sure hope that's 'coming across.'

Just revisiting this classic to say this is one of my favorite tricks you've ever shown. Sadly I only did it once, about a month after this was uploaded. I practiced my thumb palming for weeks before our 2017 family vacation. At first I thought I'd do it in front of my family over dinner as I showed my niece, but instead, since they were engaged in conversation, I did it just for her without calling any attention. When she stared at the tic tacs with the quarter impossibly inside, the first thing she did was yell, "Mom, look at this!" and she ran around this restaurant table showing everybody the thing. Probably the most magical I've ever felt. I need to chase that feeling, and shake off my inhibitions from doing the prep work necessary to create these astonishing moments. Currently I have a co-worker who likes to say, "it's in your other hand," a lot, and has said, "Your card tricks are invincible, but your coin tricks, those I can always see!" I work part time at a gas station with her, so if I could "pick up some tic tacs off the shelf," or buy one previously for a break to prevent bar code inspection I think I could show her a "coin trick" that will absolutely floor her.

Vanishes and appearances with marked coins are amazing! It's just so great to make marked coins disappear then make it reappear and it still be the same coin the spectator marks. Just such a great thing to see as a spectator!

The thinking behind proving that it is the same coin that penetrates through box is amazing. Will be using this idea while performing the bent coin routine to subtlety imply that no coin switch occurred. Thanks man.

I like that you put the coin in the card box at the beginning. Maybe in the performance you can connect that the marked coin started inside the card box so when it goes into the Tic Tac box it's going back where it came from but in a different box.

Thanks for the lesson! I started setting this up last night when I remembered I had a tic-tac container in my car - I noticed on the video the same thing I noticed with my own container - the quarter is plainly visible in bottom of the container if it is leaned over too far - I see it in this video, and can see it with my container - simple fix by holding the container a bit more upright. I am a total noob and trying to learn - so if I can see it any other observant person can as well - Had my wife watch the vid and she saw it as well, and also sees it in mine when leaned over too much. I look forward to mastering this trick - your videos are an awesome resource - thanks again for sharing - Merry Christmas!

Jay! You could also set the Tic Tacs on the coin, "rub the case around a bit to help the coin melt in", then slide the case toward you and pick it up from the edge of the table, lapping the first coin. Then you're clean, and don't have to keep the coin palmed.

Great combo trick , ive watched you so often i knew how you did it b4 reveal , guess i better add tictac to my evermounting props ! I think it might be possible to melt glue on label with a hair dryer and gently prise it off enough to gain access I used to do a combo trick with a pack of cigarettes which i would pianstakingly open from the bottom and delicately remove sleeve, doctor some of them then put it all back together and glue the bottom , It takes about 3 hours to prep trick that only lasts a couple of minutes , but the effect was spectacular , i quit smoking so ive not done it for years You don't really need a sealed packet , but it makes people believe it has not been tampered with , makes it appear impossible .

Jay, I love this...object to impossible location is one of my favorite plots. Now, this may be a case of don't run when you're not being chased, but I was thinking about the case where you give away the tic tacs. Since the label really doesn't match a commercially available one (at least not in the US where you have the UPC and nutrition info on one side), why not add "Not for individual resale" to the label (on both sides)? This is common for items sold in a multi-pack where the UPC/nutrition info would be found on the overall packaging. Oh, and to answer your question: transform
@SankeyMagic
@SankeyMagic 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do indeed think that you might be running when not being chased BUT...that's just my darn opinion, right? More like an educated guess, based almost solely on MY own limited collection of performances. Your might well have a very different vibe, style, approach, etc. Plus (and this is huge) if you have some DOUBTS about an aspect of an illusion, those doubts WILL inflence the experience in innumerable ways. So you need to def deal with your concern, either by exploring your revised label approach, or by at least trying at the version I've outlined here. Or (and this is my favorite) by a third way. Gotta love #3. Keep the door open for that one. :)
@noahdankner1100
@noahdankner1100 6 жыл бұрын
I actually LOVE the idea of adding the "Not for individual resale" to the label. It would mainly be JUST for me though. But it would solve the same problem I thought of. A real TicTac label would obviously never not have the ingredients and nutrition information and at least in the U.S. it is illegal to sell food items for human consumption without that. Like Carey said, the only way this would be is if the item was sold in a multi-pack and then the individual items would have the "Not for retail" disclaimer. I don't think it would be "over-proving" because for most spectators it wouldn't really be a detail they would think of or pay attention to anyway, whether its there OR not there. So most would not think about it one way or the other. But for those 10% anal detailed people like me, they MIGHT realize the label is missing something. Therefore, in those small cases this would solve the problem. Still again within in the context of the performance of the trick, they'll be so engrossed with the trick that even many detailed people won't bother to think of something missing from the label. It would mostly be for if they kept the box as a souvenir and closely examined it later. Detailed magicians however, (the ones performing the tricks) notice all kinds of things when they're practicing/working/playing with their props because of course they're spending much more time with them. But most of these are things that the spectator will never notice in the course of a performance. But like I said I would add the "not for retail label" for me, not the spectator, just because I feel it would make things "COMPLETE." For 90-95% of spectators I don't think it would ADD nor TAKE AWAY from the performance. Do to my germaphobic OCD however, I would make sure that I cleaned and sanitized and/or sterilized the quarter that goes in the tic tac box. Then when removing the Tic Tacs, and doing the setup, I would wear latex gloves and do the prep in a sanitary environment, i.e. the TicTacs or the quarter would not be placed onto an unsanitary surface. Therefore, it will be perfectly safe and sanitary for the spectator to eat, consume and enjoy the TicTacs after the trick! :-)

As a answer to your question Jay: I would transform the coin. Because vanishing and appearing are cool effects but if I have to chose I would do a transformation effect, because after transforming I simply introduced 2 visuals: the coin and the thing in which I transformed the coin. I love the effect that I can show others transforming object into other object and until now I got on these transforming effects a more incredible reaction than on vanishing or appearing.

Well to make a coin appear is really interesting since you making an object appear from nowhere. Transform it to something else, is still spectacular. Because it give you the sense that with a coin you can have anything in the world. But to make it disappear ? I think its more magical than anything else. Because people might think that, you are hiding it and then making it appear, or you had something in the other hand and make it appear. But to vanish it, i think it takes them by surprise, but you have to be completely clean, otherwise will not leave an impression.

Hi Jay, first of all: If I could only do ONE trick with ONE coin, I would do the coin to the eye trick. (If I could use multiple coins plus cards or money-bills, I would do Matrix by Al Schneider.) Now for the video: Wow, this is great stuff !!! It is very, very beautifull and - in relation to the strength of the effekt - needs only little preparation and practice. At the beginning I thought: "Ok, that´s Al Koran." But when I realized, that there was no out planned, I skipped back to find out the force before you would teach it. I Did not see you turning the deck and I also did not know that force, so I had no idea at all. I even thought until you explained it, that there must be multiple outs. So the force fooled me completely. Very nice, very impressive, very strong, thanks a lot for sharing this!

Personally I would have to go with a vanish. It's just more mysterious. When a spectator seems a coin appear it's easy to assume that the coin was hidden beforehand but with a vanish it's harder to piece together and so it tends to draw in more attention.

Yes and yes. I think that's a very accurate way of looking at things. But hey...what the hell do I know?

On the other hand (no pun intended) when you vanish a coin the spectator is trying to figure out "where'd it go." At least with an appearance (or a transformation for that matter) there's no heat in that regard.

I would do the transformation, so u can also transform the coin into dust which is very similar to a vanish

Transform because in my experience a transformation always gets a better reaction then a vanish or appearance

what about this idea? when you're reaching casually to get your change, you take out also the tick tack box and put it on the table, at plane sight with, I don't know, wtv is in your pocket as well, obviously not showing the hidden coin, so it's in the table all the time. Or maybe even just take it out and the audience take a peak on it, so it's allready primed in their heads. like an inception. and then, for the finale, you just happen to take it out like it just occurred to you.. . I mean, just to not take out the box at the last time which for me is kinda convenient. Like kind of set up. It feels like a closed circle for me, if you subtlety show it at some point without giving any importance and then... bam! as always... the genius of a killer effect in so simple steps. You sir are an amazing creator

SankeyMagic I'm rewatching the video. Seriously, this is the kind of routine that gets so good results whit such simple steps. No sneaky moves, so organic, and yet... impossible in the view of the audience. This is a truly creative piece of magic art. This is creativity right here. And I would definitely add this to my must-go routines in my performances. Also you're a very funny guy, Jey. Seriously haha and thnks for the nice thoughts! ☺️

Transform. Then I could use the object the coin became to do another effect.
