The new Transition Sentinel V2 has shaped up to be an impressive and versatile enduro bike. While it isn't the white knuckled beast that some other enduro bikes are, the Sentinel is a poppy playful fun big bike. Dare I say that it is bringing back the All Mountain category?

Just found this channel after searching Sentinel reviews. It's so nice to get honest feedback from someone that isn't paid to review a bike. I pulled the trigger on that Sentinel and sub'd to the channel. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to more content like this.

Great review! I recently had my Transition Scout stolen, so I decided to go with the Sentinel as a replacement bike. I love the bike, it's all you said; I'm surprised at how playful it is.Your review is well considered and throughout. Excellent comparisons.

Great review as usual. Keep up the good work. I was happy to hear your comparison to the Meta TR. I was dead set on the Sentinel, but my experience communicating with Transition wasn't like yours. It has made me consider other bikes.

I am loving it. I doesn't smash the chunk as well as some others but it's poppy playfulness and great climbing makes up for it.

@@StraightLine_MTB dad here, I got a commencal meta am 29. The little only wants ride to ride lift access park. I true DH bike is well above my pay grade. It should arrive June. When you reviewed you said it looked tough and built to last. Sold me. I was looking at GT force. Seen 2 good used ones. But sold before I came up with $. Now save up for her bike. And lessons for the two of us. Thinking norco for the little one. Not sure when. Might upgrade her fork to air fork, but.... Thanks for asking .

@@nostr8ghtlinzs596 The AM is a solid choice especially if you are hitting the bike parks in your travels. It can handle some DH chunk and speed really really well. Norco makes great kids bikes as does Commencal. So many great options right now.....when they are in stock.

What the main differences between this and say the meta tr 29? Which would you choose if you could only have one and want to ride everything? Love your reviews and channel

Hey Jamie, glad you found us on KZfaq. Great question and a tricky comparison so here I go. The Sentinel, for me, would be the better all rounder as it climbs better and is lighter than the TR. I think the TR is in a different space than other bikes in it's travel category as it rides bigger than a 140mm bike. For instance the Orbea Occam at 140/150mm, the TR would own the Occam on the downs but the opposite is true on the climbs. I would say the Sentinel and TR are also a bit different animals on the downs. The Sentinel will be more poppy and fun bike where the TR is more business. I think they both handle chunk at speed but maybe a bit different on how you get to the bottom. The Sentinel likes a bit more of an active riding style and the TR will be more planted and point and shoot. Both great bikes and neither is the wrong choice.

Hey guys. Great review video of the Sentinel! I’m not sure if anyone had noticed with the picture of the Nukeproof Mega 290, the fork is installed backwards on it lol 😂. Not sure who’s bike it is or who built it but it’s definitely not on the right way lol. Same with the bike you reviewed. The crown is supposed to face the front.

@Chris Bunker they state it increases strength. It also adds some protection to the stanchions from debris flying up. Only downside is if you have a platform rack that holds front wheel up against fork i.e. Kuat NV etc. Otherwise, Manitou makes amazing suspension

I just bought an alloy Sentinel frame and it definitely feels more like a play than a plow bike. Will take me a little to get used to as I'm definitely a take the fast line rider.

I agree. It climbs well and can handle tech but not in a traditional enduro plush way. Adding a coil shock could up it's plow-ability which I had not tried.

Did you replace the freehub on the stock novatec hubs to work with the e13 cassette, or do you have a different wheelset/hub?

I did replace the rear wheel which already had an XD driver. I do believe you can get an XD for the novatec

Do you have a comparison to the V1 sentinal? I've seen a few V1 frames up for sale pretty cheap and wondering if it's worth the extra money and time to wait for a V2 to become available.

I have never ridden the V1 version although I almost bought one last year. This version is such a great package and climbs really well not sure I could pass up this model.

Carbon NX build or alloy GX build for the sentinel? Pretty much the same price currently, and about 2lbs difference in weight. Just curious is the spec or weight is more important in your opinion for the sentinel? Thanks!

The spec is nice on alloy gx. The Alloy may be a touch more confident in the chunk but Slight lighter weight of carbon will be little more playful. Having the Alloy Spire I have to say it is really well done and feel like refined. If I was choosing for the Sentinel I'd personally would go carbon and upgrade as you go. I didn't have a problem with the NX suspension. Wheels are on the heavier side but the GX wheelset won't be much lighter. Both excellent choices

Hey Casey. I've never been on a Wreckoning or any evil bike. I can say the Sentinel is poppy and playful for a bigger bike. It climbs well and can be relatively light. I wouldn't classify the Sentinel as an enduro smasher but more of an all mountain bike that can get rowdy. If I was picking a one bike option, this Sentinel would be tops. Pairing it with a hardtail would be awesome as for bigger days with tech you could climb the Sentinel all day.

Yes they are, good eye. I like them but maybe the Deity Supracush a bit more. Meaty paws are 1mm larger and a bit longer but Supracush are more cushy 😆

@@StraightLine_MTB thank you. Ordered a pair for my Spur as I find the stock Sensus Lites too thin for my hands which often get numb. I love the Spur but feel a little under travel for rougher trails so looking to add the Sentinel for these trails. Keep the reviews coming.

I believe the fork lower legs are on backwards. It just looks weird.

Manitou has a reverse arch so it's opposite of traditional forks. The Mezzer is pretty amazing and I did a back to back test with the Zeb Ultimate on our channel.....Mezzer was my favorite. Thanks for watching

This or HD5 for all around trail/enduro?

I have not been on an HD5 but ride quite a bit on HD4. That was actually the last 27.5 bike I've ridden. Personally, I prefer 29 wheels. As an all around bike, the Sentinel does a lot well. If I had to choose 1 bike for all my riding, then the Sentinel would be towards the top. It has pop, climbs well, and is capable. I think it sets in the all mountain category but is bike park friendly.

Sentinel V2 vs Ripmo AF....hmm great question. I think they both do a lot similarly. They are both great climbers and handle downhills great. I would give the edge to the Sentinel on the downs with it's longer geo. The V2 also comes in about lbs lighter in this heaviest build in the line up. If I had to choose I would go Sentinel V2. It is a bit more $ but I like a bit more capable bike on the downs and feel the Sentinel climbs so well which makes it an aggressive one bike option.

Fork isn't backwards it has Manitou's reverse arch. Mezzer is an excellent fork.

That’s silly. Forks have offset and can’t be run backwards. Manitou forks intentionally put their brace on the rear; they believe it provides more stiffness and it protects the stanchions from dirt being thrown up by the wheel. “Backwards fork!” Lol!
