The word “messiah” (or “mashiach”) literally means “the anointed one” in Hebrew, and is related to the word “mishchah” (ointment or cream). It refers to the ceremony of pouring oil onto the king’s head as part of the coronation ceremony. Thus, according to scripture, the messiah is the one who will be given the divine right to rule the world and finally bring about peace. Judaism taught this for centuries, and those Jews who believed that this person was Jesus became the Christians.

My friend is an Orthodox Jew, fairly intelligent and extremely knowledgable regarding the Scriptures. I am a Christian - of the Protestant tradition. We've had some fascinating conversations which I've throrougly enjoyed and through which I've learned a lot. I realize there are historical justifications for Jews to see (some) Christians as the bad guys - and I realize there are historical justifications for seeing (some) Jews as evil greedy manipulators of economies and world events. That does not make me Torquemada, nor her a Rothschild or the next George Soros. That having been said, when she tells me the reasons Jesus can't be the Messiah my response (which I kept to myself so as not to offend) is "that's preposterous" - Basically, what she is taught by the Rabbis is that an omnipotent G-d can't do all those things we believe He did, and the Messiah isn't what we think the Messiah is supposed to be. I understand the concept of the Trinity can be difficult to fully understand, and virtually impossible to explain to a skeptic. Yet, it's easy enough to understand that the same being (me, for instance) can have different natures and still be the same wonderful guy (like me, for instance). To my parents, I'm the son that doesn't give them any trouble. To my children, I'm the cool dad. To my supervisors, I'm the far-too-outspoken underling. To my subordinants, I'm the inspirational leader (well, I hope so anyway.) To the people I've put in jail ..... well, I'll leave that to your imagination. In all these cases, though, I'm still the same wonderful me. (Maybe not a perfect analogy, but then again I think it's pretty good.) Then there's the "that's not what that passage means" argument. That's a convenient one. So that's when I realized why so many Jews reject Jesus as the Messiah. It's because the Rabbis see Christianity as "competition" rather than "companion" - they want to ensure they don't lose any of their flock to the enemy. In short, they want to keep their jobs. Therefore, they say whatever it takes to ensure Jesus isn't seen as the fulfillment of the Scriptures, whether it is about Christ himself or the nature of what the Messiah is supposed to be.

Yes we believe in the Messiah and most Jews don't believe the Messiah is Jesus.

There’s certainly some buzz going on in Jerusalem right now regarding the Yanuka Rav Shlomo as their messiah.

Thee are two major ultra Orthodox Jewish sects in the USA. And both of them hold a view about the Messiah that is not mentioned here. The insular Satmar believe that Jewish rule over Israel actually delays the coming of the Messiah, that the Messiah can only come when the Jews are NOT in charge in Israel. The more worldly Lebovovitch, whom you can actually talk too, favor the state of Israel. Many of them thought that their leader and most loved rabbi while he was alive was the Messiah. So I asked one of the Rabbis if he belived that this was true. He gave me a very interesting answer. "In every time G-d sends us a man who has the potential to become the messiah. But he can not become the Messiah until the Jews are ready for him. So far, we have clearly not been."

Daniel prophesied that "Messiah shall be cut off, BUT NOT FOR HIMSELF." (Daniel 9:26). In other words, his death would be a vicarious death. Isaiah also predicted, when talking of the vicarious suffering and death of the Messiah, "For he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was He stricken." (Isaiah 53:8). Then he went on to reaffirm the purpose of his death in verse10, "...when Thou shalt make his soul AN OFFERING FOR SIN." And he continues in verse 12, "He hath poured out his soul unto death...and he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." This is the purpose of the righteous and holy Messiah, to be the true sacrificial lamb Who would suffer and die and bear the judgement for the sins of His people, in order to reconcile them to God. And that is why John the Baptist, pointing to Jesus, exclaimed, "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the World!" (John 1:29)

The messiah feels like paradise on earth. Working towards a better life. It's like a goal post. We are supposed to bring light to the world and make the physical plane heavenly. Not focus on the afterlife like other religions. I think it led us to hope and growth, ultimately resilience despite our struggles. I can see how this rings true for me as a Jew despite not being a very religious person.

But because they're in a unique position to repeatedly demonstrate "this is definitely God's work, NOT theirs." "Because I knew how stubborn you are -That your neck is an iron sinew and your forehead is copper" (Isaiah 48)

Some Jews actually do believe Jesus is the Messiah. They are called Messianic-Jews. They exist even in Israel, albeit they are a small minority.

There are those who hold the view that there are 2 Messiahs: Ben David and Ben Joseph, two personalities each fulfilling one role. What they fail to take into account is the possibility of ONE person fulfilling BOTH roles: Jesus who appears on earth first as Ben Joseph, the Suffering Servant whose sufferings were graphically and accurately described by Isaiah the prophet. After His resurrection He commanded the gospel to be preached throughout the world, and He's promised to return again, this time as Ben David, the conquering King who will defeat Israel's enemies, and restore the kingdom to His people the Jews, and thus usher in the messianic age. And that's why He bears the title, The Lion Of The Tribe Of Judah.

I asked this question under another video of this channel. I'm of Jewish ancestry, on both my dad's and mom's side, but I grew up in the USSR and didn’t receive any Jewish education whatsoever. These days I'm keenly interested in my Jewish heritage, and I learn about things that make sense to me. However, I've never succeeded in making sense of the Messiah concept. A man will come and do magical things to bring about a utopia on earth? Since I do not understand what I'm being asked to believe, is it OK if I don’t..?

According to the Jewish scriptures the messiah had to come before the second temple fell (Daniel 9). In fact in Daniel 9 God tells Daniel through the angel even the year the messiah will come and he says the purpose for the messiah is to “expiate sin.” It says it will be in year 32 or 33AD depending if you’re calculating prophetic years or modern years. Of course there are hundreds of places where the messiah is spoken of but Daniel 9 gives the whole story. Why he comes. What he will do and the date when he comes. Rejoice. The messiah has come!

In short.. the concept of Messiah is only adhered to by the orthodox Jews.. every other Jew is clueless about it, and it's indifferent to their lives. Before some of the Jews left the land after the temple was burnt down in 70 AD, they never had this story of Messiah coming to build the 3rd temple.. it came after. And even if they built it somehow and it gets destroyed again, they would have seemingly created a new story that the Messiah will be come and build the 4th temple. This is how stories and legends form throughout history of human civilizations.

Unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.“ The Virgin Birth Christ, born of a virgin, Mary. Matthew Chapter 1 verse 20: "Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him (Joseph), in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for that (Christ) which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit." Jesus, the Christ, is God’s Word made into flesh. 1 John chapter 5 verse 7: "For there are 3 that bear a record in heaven, The Father, The Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these 3 are one.” John chapter 1 verse 1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John chapter 1 verse 14: "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John chapter 1 verse 10: "He was in the world, and the world knew Him not.” Hebrews chapter 4 verse 12: ”For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” John’s Vision Of Christ Seated On His Throne In Heaven: Revelation chapter 4 verse 2 to 3: "Immediately, I (John), was in the Spirit, and behold a throne sat in Heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance, and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.” Why did Christ Jesus came and sacrificed His precious life for sinners like us? Because through Adam’s disobedience, sin and death entered the world, and all human race. Christ came to undo the sin and eternal death brought upon the world through the sin of Adam. Christ, who is God’s Word made into flesh, sacrificed His life for us. He was crucified for our sins and transgressions. Christ died, and on the third day He resurrected in the flesh, conquering death and the grave. Now, Christ is seated in Heaven, at the right hand of Power (God the Father). Through Christ’s sacrifice we gain Salvation through God’s abundant mercy and grace. We are reconciled and recompensed back to God, through the shed blood of His begotten Son, Christ Jesus. John chapter 3 verse 16: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” Romans chapter 5 verse 8: "But God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Death in Adam, Life In Christ: Romans chapter 5 verse 19: "For as by one man’s (Adam’s) disobedience, many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s(Jesus's) obedience, many will be made righteous.” Romans chapter 5 verse 18: "Therefore, as through one man’s (Adam’s) offense judgement came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even through one Man’s (Christ’s) righteous act, the free gift came to all men, resulting in the justification of life.” Romans chapter 5 verse 17: "For if by the one man’s offense (Adam’s offense), death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in the life through the One (Jesus Christ)." Romans chapter 5 verse 12: ” Therefore, just as through one man (Adam) sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.” Romans chapter 5 verse 21: “So that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Through Adam, sin and death entered the world, so that is why Christ Jesus came to give life, and give it more abundantly. Yes, Christ came to give eternal life through Salvation. The Salvation of His shed blood, and resurrection. Adam’s flesh brought sin, death, destruction, and condemnation. 1 Corinthians 15 : 21-22, “For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ, all shall be made alive.” Christ’s sacrifice, the crucifixion of His flesh, brings reconciliation of sins, resurrection, eternal life, salvation. Christ is coming back again, not as a sacrificial lamb. He is coming back as a roaring, warring lion, to destroy sin, death, and the grave once and for all. Amen! Halleluyah! Revelation chapter 22 verse 12 to 13: "And behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.“ Now do you see friends, why Christ Jesus is so Important for our Salvation? Yes. Now, do you understand why there is only 1 way to God, and that is only through Christ Jesus? Yes. Christ is Salvation. Christ is our Lord and Saviour. Christ is the only way to God. Christ is the only Mediator between God and men (us humans). God loves us so much, He does not want anyone to perish in hell. God wants all sinners to be saved. That is why He sent His Word to save the world. God’s Word became flesh, and dwelt among us to save us. Will you accept Christ and be saved? Your eternity depends on it. What happens after death is what is most important. Where will you spend eternity? Death is only the beginning of the next life. Romans chapter 6 verse 23: ” For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” John Chapter 3 verse 16: ” For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” Salvation is free! Christ already paid the price, all you have to do is receive salvation through acceptance of Jesus Christ, Yeshua Ha Massiach. So who is Christ? He is the Word Of God made into flesh. He is the Son of God. He is God. He is the Image of the Invisible God. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the Beginning and the End. He is the Great I Am. He is Emmanuel. He is the Christ. He is the Messiah. He is the Creator. He is our Lord and Saviour. He is our Mediator. He is the Lion and the Lamb. He is the Rock not cut out by human hands. He is the Root of David. He is Salvation. He is the Way, the Truth, and Life. He is the blessing promised to Abraham. He is the Gift of God to the whole world. God created the heavens and the earth with His spoken Word. Did you know that Jesus is that Word, through which all things were created? Yes. John chapter 14 verse 6: "Jesus said to him,” I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Colossians chapter 1 verse 15 to 16: "He is the Image of the Invisible God, the Firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” John chapter 1 verse 1 to 4: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” Christ is for all who will receive Him. Will you receive Him today? This is how our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ said we should pray. Matthew chapter 6 verse 9 to 13: KJV “Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Now that you understand who Christ is, share Christ with others. Christ is The Good News. What do we do with good news? We share it. Amen! Repent of your sins. Leave a lifestyle of sin. Sin no more! Be baptized in Jesus Name. Submit to God. Love God with all your heart, mind, body, soul, and spirit. Keep God’s Commandments, (read Exodus 20: 1- 17, see the 10 Commandments of God). Love one another. Forgive one another. It is written, “resist the devil, submit to God, and the devil will flee from you.” Hate sin with all your heart, mind, body, soul, and spirit. * Hebrews 10: 26, KJV, " For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins." Acts 11 vs. 15 to 16, ” And as I began to speak, The Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, “John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Psalm 68, verse 4 KJV: " Sing to God, sing praises to His name; Extol Him who rides on the clouds, by His name Yah, and rejoice exceedingly."
