I traveled to South Korea for 20 days last month. People would always assume that I’m either from Europe or America just because of my skin color. They were shocked to know that I’m from India. These are some questions that I was asked- Do you have a curfew in the evening (because I’m a girl) Does india have subway (metro) Does it take months to pay the electricity bill Does india have tall buildings No hate but most Koreans just know curry and Taj Mahal and think we’re still living in ancient times. 🤣🤣 + one guy thought that we’re vegetarians to lose weight 🥲😂 Edit: I have nothing against Koreans, this was just my experience. The friends that I did make there were very keen to learn more about India, and a few of them will be visiting India next year. 😀

I'm of Indian origin(not from India) and my best friend who was from France started dating a Korean girl. He introduced me to her, and after a few days he told me we can't hang out anymore due to his girlfriend not liking me. She said "his kind of people are dangerous" I felt very sad but said ok. I wanted my friend to be happy. We haven't spoken since and it's been 6 years. I try to avoid Asian people after that, because of other instances too, where they joke and mock my skin.

The thing with Korea is that their development is from the 2050's but their mentality is from the 1950's......

I am sorry for your experience. I stay in western Europe, where racism is present but comprises of less active and more passive racism. Overall, I felt normal here. However, I met some Korean people here that work in our building and they just act like they ignore people of color. I don't give damn but I realised that Korean is, not entirely, but a majority racist country. That is why I was never compelled to watch K-pop, K-drama, etc. I hope Koreans educate themselves.

That's why we should respect our country and contribute for our country rather than being crazy for foreign stars you can like foreign people and stars but don't go crazy for them ignoring your country cos only here we can be completely free

Brother to be honest , I don't think it just to Indians. I am colored north African who has been living in South Korea for 2 years, and I face the same things in a daily manner. Also my white friends face the same things. So I could say, it is a normal things since the society is homogenous and it may take them some time to accept foreigners. Beside that My Korean friends told me that they also faced the same type of discrimination in some European or South Asian countries, so I don't think it is just here in Korean!

One reason can be.. That korea's immigration policy is really strict.. And it's expensive as a travel destination, having nothing much to offer. So korean's have not yet acclimatized with foreigners. It's a self sustaining rich country, so they also don't migrate a lot. The one foreign experience they have is with the Japanese and that experience was a really bad one.. So i guess it will take more time for them to feel the effects of Globalisation

One of the strong reason I personally feel is immediately applying the very moment after rejection shows that you are desperate to enter the country at any cost which pisses of Officer. This is my personal experience w.r.t Australia although my reason for 2 times rejection with 6 months apart was the real intention of me travelling as a tourist and instead would find job opportunities instead of providing all the details. But as of my Canada Visa approved 😊

In India, I live in an area where there are many foreigners - most of them have a friendly demeanour and try to strike up a conversation with the locals except for the lofty SKs who look with contempt at everything & every Indian. If they can do this here in India it's not too hard to imagine what it must be like over there... Their rapid economic growth due to a boom in technology has sort of given them the license for intellectual & racial supremacy! Consumerism has made them culturally very different from us - they wear gloves even while eating food, there's a lot of emphasis on hygiene & cleanliness and of course, the social pressure to meet the beauty standards to be as WHITE as possible compels women & men to doll up. This is so much in contrast to the humble Indian lifestyle where we slurp up our curries with our brown hands, make-up is mostly for women and men are hairy! It's courageous of you to raise this issue rather than just brush it under the carpet and pretend to be indifferent. However, don't let it affect you too much, elitism & racism exists everywhere - be proud of who you are, your culture, and your values... You represent a nation that is a true democracy and not a vassal state of some superpower. SK's economic prosperity is still tainted by its authoritarian past and the presence of US military bases. For Indians who travel to foreign countries be prepared for such setbacks - it is not necessary that everybody will be welcoming and friendly. However, if discrimination/racism is institutionalised it should be escalated.
