How to stay dry and safe and SURVIVE the extreme weather conditions we sometimes end up in is much depending on how you pack your gear for them to stay dry and for you to stay warm no matter what! We don’t want to risk getting hypothermia so dry gear is KEY for staying warm and that is as important for the clothes you’re wearing as the gear in your backpack.
Today I will go through how I packed my gear for my latest hike in the storm called HANS up in the northern parts of Sweden. For that full episode just follow this link - • Hit by a STORM! 😮 #Swe...
I stayed completely dry, more or less 😄, at least my gear in my pack did all because how I packed my backpack... you will also stay organized and use the space in your backpack the best way if applying this way of packing.

Hi 👋🏻🙂 and welcome to the channel! Glad you found it and and are enjoying the content. Seems like you also enjoying being outdoors as much as possible 👍🏻last time I x-country skiing was probably in my early teens… now it’s only downhill 🎿, but x-c is nice and been thinking picking it up again, if/when I have the time.

I just can’t bring myself to put so much stuff in the same bag, even if it does use the space in the pack most efficiently. Each piece or type of my clothing/warm gear gets its own waterproof compression/stuff sack - sleeping bag, down parka, down pants (winter only for those 2), sleeping baselayers, and lightweight down jacket. I simply compress the straps just enough to allow each sack to conform to the shape of the pack. My lightweight down jacket is at the very top of the pack or in the brain, because that’s what I put on during stops so quick access is nice. Raingear/hardshells go either at the top of the pack or the front mesh pocket. Tent poles go vertically in a back corner of the pack, stakes are in a small bag in the tent bag. Pillow and sleeping hat (to keep bag clean, not my head warm) go with the sleeping bag. Food/stove is nestled in amongst everything else, and the sleeping pad is put in above the sleeping bag against the back and other stuff packed around it.

Great and Yea it does, the second I took as added security because I knew the rain would pour down more or less the whole time and I didn’t want to take any chances. I will continue using two liners, liked it and ads only a small amount of weight.

😄👍🏻… jokes aside, 30 grams is a low weight penalty for guaranteeing your gear to stay dry and personally I believe it’s worth it.

Thank you very much for a great video again! There are some points I haven't been doing so far, e.g. the liner system. May I ask you for the name of the company of the food pod? (3:58)

Hi 👋🏻 and glad you liked today’s episode! And well, the food pod is made in Sweden by a company called Skalmo and the name is “The large pack pod” and can be bought at backpackinglight.se. Other brands are making it as well like HMG so you should be able to find one quite easily. Good luck 🙂

Thanks… been a really shitty day to be honest but I guess the first two-three days is the worst when it comes to pain… anyways, appreciate! 🙏🏻🙂 The foam pad is an EVA pad, 3 mm Evazote so a closed cell foam pad that I use for some added R (0.5), anti glide and protection for my inflatable Nemo Alpine, and as a sitpad during the day.

@roberthammenrudh
@roberthammenrudh 24 күн бұрын

@roberthammenrudh
@roberthammenrudh Жыл бұрын

Hi 👋🏻, sorry that I forgot to mention that 🤷🏼‍♂️😄 but I have two 50 cl pet bottles, one in each of the mesh pocket on my shoulder straps. For additional capacity I can also fill up my 1L Hydrapak and put in my side pocket together with the filter. All in all I have a 2L water capacity which have been working out great for where I hike… but you off course need to adapt to where you’re hiking.
