Yes miracles do happen. I myself was so sick 14 years ago. I was dying. I was taken to church, am man of God; a bishop, prayed for me, he told me God had healed me. And that was it. Two weeks later, without my knowledge, my body changed. I regained my health; that is I put on weight(I had grown so thin), my skin looked like that of a young child, my face glowed, I cancelled the operation appointment which upcoming. Since then I have been holding steadfast to Jesus Christ. And Jesus has been holding steadfast to me too

Nice but its irrefutable. When we speak of miracle I mean acts. Like raising of the dead. Undeniable healings etc.

Okay, this is a scenario I actually believe. There’s a psychosomatic type of ‘healing’ that counterfeits the real thing mentioned in the Bible. I know people who claim to lay hands on or speak words to people with bad backs or headaches but they don’t measure up in a qualitative sense to the miracles Jesus or the apostles performed because they claim the healing was progressive, not instantaneous. Second, some claim that they heal only a part of the ailment. Jesus healed completely, and the physical problems he healed were not as simple as a toothache or sore shoulder. He healed leprosy and blindness. I’ve also heard stories of churches teaching that everyone can heal, which is a refutable claim. Then worst of all, some people claim that the miracle didn’t work because they didn’t have enough faith or had sin in their life. That’s offensive.

I just recently went to a youth revival camp that lasted for a week. During a praise and worship service, the Holy Spirit was apon us so much, that a youth adult who had been deaf his whole life was healed from his deafness and could hear again. It was the soverign grace of God that poured out unto that boy that healed him from deafness & it was humbling to have witnessed it. God is good.

Because the gifts confirm the preaching of the gospel. Maybe if more churches were preaching the full gospel we would see more of the miraculous. Many people making up the mass of church attenders have not heard the full gospel and have stopped after ‘accepting’ Jesus, and do not continue pursue God with a burning heart.

I got drunk out of depression 6 years ago , ambulance took me to hospital. My heart stopped on the monitor - they had to reanimate me - Whilst I died I went to Hell - I saw myself in Hell it was horrible ! 3 years later I accepted Jesus as my Saviour. I did a 21 day fast straight away and I met Jesus face to face. He sat next to me . He was Pure , White , Glorious. He took me to Heaven. I have dreams every single night since. Jesus is the same yesterday , today and tomorrow.

Yeah sure. So you went to heaven? That's pretty impressive. I would bet my entire bank account, that your description of heaven is going to be different, to every other liar who has claimed the same thing. If you all really went to Heaven (which, I'm sure we can all agree, would be look the same to anyone who visits) - everyone's descriptions would be identical.

*Do Miracles Happen Today?* A throwback Ask Pastor John episode from 2009. Watch below or read the transcript at dsr.gd/1a9lmOW *Key quote:* "Miracles are happening today around the world, in some measure. They can happen more when God is pleased to pour out his Spirit. And the reason it's not as normative now as it was in the apostles' day is because he meant to signify that that point in history - that Incarnation, that authoritative band of apostles - was unique." John Piper

Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. What He did 2000 years ago, He is doing today and will do till He comes again. He said greater than these you shall do. He says, if you have faith as big as a mustard seed, you can move a mountain into the sea. There are miracles happening by the hundreds every day, just not Within the conservative denominations, alas. Why? 1) because we do not ask. Ask, you shall receive. 2) because we justify too much, we try to explain things like in this video making a verse that was said to one person (Timothy) as the regular rule to live by and we forget about the hundred if not thousands others that God gave us to dare us believe to believe Him. 3) We hear less and less about the working power of the Holy Ghost that raised Jesus from the dead that is still at work in us and
@gracydib
@gracydib 9 жыл бұрын
and more and more about what this scholar of the Bible said and what that pastor thinks. We have, to put it in Jesus words, "rendered the Word of God ineffective" in our lives because we either did not take Jesus at His Word, did not ask, or justified based on what we heard others preach. 4) When these conservatives churches who time and again voice their justifications for the lack of manifestation of God's power hear of other Christians in other denominations testify to miracles, they quickly discredit them by discrediting the whole church based on things like: we don't believe pentecostals because look, that church went to extreme, we don't believe the catholics, because we don't even think they are Christians, maybe satan healed so and so, we don't believe the charismatic, because they have women posits, etc. etc. and so it goes.

We don't see more miracles today because people don't step out in faith anymore. When I was in high school, a guy prayed for my friend's broken leg, and he was instantly healed. He just commanded it to be better, and it got better. And my legs were uneven lengths, and he commanded to grow them out, and they did. He then told me to pray for another person, and their legs grew out. It's that simple. We complicate things with our theology. If you have the Holy Spirit and you speak out in faith, miracles will happen.

there were many miracles in my life. As I drove my car home from work I had a weird feeling while driving. It was dark and I did´t know the road back home. So I prayed to the holy father to bring me home safely. Ten minutes or so he crashed from the right into my car and I spinned untill the car stopped. I found myself squeezed in between two big flower pots. But I felt fine even though I was under shock. Nothing was broken but the car- I was allright and they sent me home from the hospital the same day. The police and the doctor said it was truely a miracle that nothing worse happened. Yes my father brought me home safely just as I asked him. :)

Miracles do happen today, but the ways that miracles happened back then with the apostles were directly for the apostles not for every single believer. Miracles such as raising the dead, healing the sick and casting out demons still can happen but it is not because a person has the power to do them but because God and His sovereignty He allows it to happen.

While I respect these men of God, the Cessationist camp does great harm to people's faith. Certainly miracles, healings and other manifestations of the Holy Spirit are for today. If they are happening in mission situations they should be happening and are happening in the Western church as well. This does nothing more than destroy people's hope and faith in God's power. Faith is a definite condition for the release of God's power.

I don't think that these men are doing what you are claiming. I get where you're coming from but see most people who claim to be believers strictly rely on works that we learn of from God's word and make it their base of their faith, which is flat out wrong. What these men do is that they point everyone to not just read the word of God but understand the context rather than nit pick what is beneficial for their ears or hearts desire. These men never claim that supernatural works of healings are done but rather point that such gifts and caliber of miracles was for a certain time and for select individuals in the old testament and the apostles, and Of course Jesus Christ who enabled himself, but they truth is that Jesus was and is enough, and yes, he can absolutely heal today through his immediate power as He is the only one that can choose to do so, however we can't demand the holy Spirit or God or Jesus to act on demand because that is an attempt to be in control of Gods power and sovereignty. Does He enable us with certain things, yes. But do you know what I think really kills and misleads people faith in the power of God? It's those that only focus on preaching of sings and wonders and take on this fake super hero cape only to lead people to think that they can only be healed by their hands, or if they give money, or of they touch a screen, bor some other really creepy method not supported by scripture. Look I strongly believe that God supernatural heals and acts as He pleases, but there is a difference with the miracles of the Bible that happen for that time and for the purpose of validation those who performed them. But to think that people actually somehow have a gift of healing is plain wrong. God can use people or He can simply act on His own without an earthly agent because He's God and all powerful and Sovereign. So no, I don't think these men are harming anyone's faith by pointing people back to the word of God and challenging them to truly analyze the contents before accepting anything as fact. I commend these men for pointing people back to scripture because that should be our foundation for how/what we believe rather than take the word of men and their acclaimed healing testimonies who can mislead vulnerable and weak believers.

We do experience these miracles today. We do not experience them as often (in certain denominations/people’s) because of our lack of faith/not believing God (our trust in God is much weaker) this is because in our teachings we do not share often enough the testimonies of what God has done, and is doing today. It is our lack of believing God, just like those of Jesus’ home town that Jesus does not do many miracles amongst us Matt 13:58. Matthew says that it is “because of their lack of faith”. Faith is the Greek word pistis, which simply mean trust, assurance, confidence. These men were closer to walking with Jesus and his testimonies were so much more real to them because many witnessed them. It was easier for them to have confidence (faith) in what God said because they had seen it.

Here is a good example of why I disagree. There was a woman in my church with a bad Migrane headache. She had another christian in our pray for her, and nothing happened. I waited till they were done, then I went to that woman and asked her if I could pray over her. She let me. When I prayed, she felt hot heat go from the top of her head, all the way down to her back. And she was completely healed, instantly. The point is, it does matter where a person prays from, either from pitty or from faith

It's ok, we have been told 'IF' we had faith even only as big as a mustard seed we could move a mountain. So from that i guess most of us haven't been given much (because we are given a 'measure') and God knows it. But yes, they seem to happen as Mr Piper describes nowdays. I've heard orderlies in the hospital say they have just 'up and happened', but then in another case, with prayer, nothing...so only God knows what he is doing and through whom and why. Spot on, I think! Am sure miracles are happening in remote areas of mission, where God deems it necessary to show his supernatural power so they may believe in the gospel message that is proclaimed. But it is mostly not normative like he said, and that does not mean we are lacking in faith.

The ones that John Piper are referring to must be the ones no one hears abt. A good question! And, the answer is of course miracles happen. I like how a fellow lover of Christ and stunnning writer GK Chesterton said, "It'd be miraculous if miracles didn't happen at all." And, a more contemporary soul dear to my heart said, "Medicine is itself a miracle. Who says God can't use everyday ways to bring forth miracles?" +++ alms. fasting. prayer.

I've seen my fair share of miracles in missions. And they weren't in an overglamourized crusade. They were real people, who needed to be prayed for. When I go back, I'd really like to talk to them again to see which people that I prayed for are still good. But I have plenty of faith in it. Because I saw people who at first that couldn't see, or couldn't bend over, or could barely touch their toe to the ground, who a month later were still fine. However, that being said, healings aren't evrything

Miracles, by their very definition are supernatural. If they happened regularly/predictably, then we could describe them as natural, and therefore not miraculous at all. E.g. Jesus turns water into wine - miracle! If everyday I saw people praying and water becoming wine regularly/predictably, it wouldn't be a miracle, but rather a provokable feature of the natural world. And to expect otherwise is to undermine the fantastic natural world God created - if he constantly had to break natural rules, wouldn't it indicate the rules aren't sufficient?

@Imamaltese1 well these people are the people that have that faith that Christ taught us to have, God through Christ has already given us the power to do these miracles and more, it just depends if way say to someone going through pain "Oh, you can get better if God wants you too" but instead saying "Hey, the blood of Christ has already healed you, Christ was on the cross, thinking about you, he shed his blood so that you wouldn't have this pain so now it's gone in Jesus name"

...there is a book written by Tony Tymstra titled; What is possible? ...here is a chapter you may find interesting...the book is available on amazon. THE LITTLE BUTTERFLY PROOF How much more amazing can this planet be? A butterfly returns to the forest four generations later after having never been there before and lands on the same trees as its great grandparents once did, traveling almost 3000 miles and never getting lost. How can that not be proof of something grand in this world? The Great North American monarch butterfly's migration is only one example of nature's seemingly endless number of inspiring mysteries. It is a demonstration of the complex and elegant entanglements that are still hidden from us. Such a testimony quietly compels us to discover and understand the world around us. Before these butterfly sanctuaries were discovered in the late 1970s, people in North America had always wondered where did all these monarch butterflies go. And in a strange twist of beautiful irony, the people in Mexico had always wondered where did all these butterflies come from. These are two different views of the same incredible pilgrimage. This migration is truly one of nature's wondrous revelations because it is not the life of one butterfly that makes this so unusual. It is the life of four generations of butterflies that makes this story complete and causes us to ponder about our own purpose and destiny. This is a beautiful story. The migration starts in the middle of the forest, in the mountains of Michoacán. It is in an area only thirty by fifty miles round. Millions upon millions of butterflies converge in this place to overwinter enjoying the warmth of the Mexican sun. During their stay in this migratory site, the female monarchs become fully developed, and mating takes place. As this first generation begins their spring migration, they fly over mountain ridges to as far north as Texas and to the southern parts of the United States. Here they lay eggs on milkweed plants along the way. This generation soon dies, but in four days, their eggs will hatch into baby caterpillars. These earthbound caterpillars eat ferociously for two weeks before becoming fully-grown. They will then find a quiet and safe place to hide. Here they will start the process of transforming into a chrysalis. For about ten days, the caterpillar will undergo a remarkable transformation called metamorphosis, and soon a beautiful butterfly will emerge. Deeply embedded in their nature, this second-generation somehow knows to continue the journey, and they fly north to the mid-United States and to the lower parts of Canada where they will lay eggs and begin the cycle for the next generation. As the third generation emerges, they will find milkweed plants, eat, breed, and lay eggs, and soon a fourth generation of butterflies is born. When autumn arrives, and the leaves fall, this fourth-generation will fly all the way back to Mexico. Picking up thermals and getting carried aloft on the upper winds. They will travel roughly sixty miles a day. After two months, they will eventually arrive at the same thirty by fifty-mile forested area of that first generation. It will have been a flight of almost 3000 miles without having any knowledge of being there before, and never getting lost on the way. It is an incredible feat. The Monarch Butterfly migration inspires an overwhelming feeling of reverence and admiration for the glory of nature. It is still a mystery as to how they do it. In early Christianity, the butterfly was a symbol of the soul. In China, it was used as a symbol of bliss and joy. People in Australia and New Zealand call the monarch butterfly "the wanderer." To Native Americans, the butterfly is a symbol of joy, color, and change. The butterfly has inspired many poets, thinkers, and writers. Perhaps this is a testimony to the Creator of this world. Is a butterfly proof that a Creator exists? If and when we learn all the mysteries of the world, then perhaps we will know, but the Great Butterfly Migration gives us a glimpse towards that answer.

@mgundy Conversation over - when you start taking my words out of context (and I clearly indicated context by using a numbering system) I cannot continue. I clearly did not at any point infer that infancide was paramount to 'culture clash'. Solidarity comes from interaction within a culture.... you didn't look it up did you? It's like talking to a brick wall. Have a nice ignorant life - and remember - don't check your facts, don't question your teachings and you'll feel blissful for life :)

I agree that miracles happen today and have happened over history, and I agree that miracles can happen anywhere but I don’t agree that it isn’t normal, or I suppose I mean that it should be a normal part of the Christian life.

@simcult The reason why I haven't answered your question, as I have explained, is because we differ on what the criteria of a demonstration is. so no, I do not say that you can't question the claims of the bible, you must just realize that there is a difference in worldview that inhibits further understanding on certain points. Also Unicorns is an agreed upon fact, except among diagnosed insane people, that they are made up by the human imagination, this is not the case with God.

If we were to do the things the Apostles did, say hello to the stake. But it wasn't them that Healed them. It was the Spirit of God.

Healing is part of the Gospel. The Apostles said that the healing was in the name of Jesus and by the faith in His name. People don't have that kind of faith anymore, so they are not seeing those miracles anymore. Faith comes by hearing, we just aren't hearing it, so how can we believe it. The only proof that those who appose healing for today is circumstances--circumstances in the Bible, but circumstances none the less. We should walk by faith and not by sight.

Rand the healing of this body ,which is wearing out ,is not part of the gospel . As Paul said .we are now in a tent and looking forward to a mansion, our eternal body .Tents wear out and leak.Don't insult believers by saying they have enough faith for salvation but not enough for healing .

Wendy Mitchell That passage has nothing to do with healing. The gospel is Jesus and Jesus healed so it is a part of that and its a part of what we are to be doing Mark 16:17-18. Dont dwindle down the gospel to fit what you have expirenced so far. I have seen tons of people get healed by the Holy Spirit when I prayed for them and Ive had an 11 yr old lower back injury from football get completely healed.

Pastor just said that miracles happen not as often as apostles exercised them, because God chose a certain period of time and unique people for it. That's not for him to say. We are not to take assumptions which are not confirmed by Bible. And if Jesus said we can do all the things He did, then we can. Do you earnestly seek a gift of faith by which all these things and much more other things are accomplished? That is the question.

@ttty2t1j3 Paul said it best, in the end tongues will cease, healings will cease, prophecy will cease, and all that will remain is faith, hope, and love. And when we are in heaven before our glorious creator, the only thing that will truly matter is the love that we had for others, and the love that we displayed for others. Healings aren't even anything glorious, because there is nothing a person can truly do to heal someone, just pray. God does the rest.

@yeudh You gotta hear His voice, man. He could feed a multitude right before your eyes but if your heart is hardened by sin, you'd rationalize the miracle. Jesus is alive. Ask him to reveal himself to you. He'll honor that prayer every time. Knowing Him is the miracle.

Miracles do happen, yes. But they are clearly not happening as they did in the Apostolic age. They had none of this coming back again and again for progressive healing. It was instantaneous. Most faith healers today are deceived and deceiving others.

@simcult The science that I do agree with is the science that actually analyzes what can be analyzed through science. The problem in most cases as I have found is that atheism and science are quite far removed, slander and atheism are closer to one another, since that is all I get conclusively from atheists

So many opinionated scholars making posts. He never said miracles do not happen. He actually said they do happen, just not on the same scale as when Jesus and his disciples walked the earth. None of us nor anyone we know has seen limbs regrown or the dead, after 4 days, restored to life. The magnitude and volume of miracles changed dramatically after the death of the apostles.

@simcult To #2) It clearly ISN'T BARBARIC TO THEM. Therefore, who defines who's solidarity is correct, or who's shold be taken over the other when they obviously conflict in such a fundamental way? Which leads to why you still haven't answered #3.

@simcult That's a very interesting way to put infanticide... culture clash. Wow, just wow. What I'm getting at is that the ruling "solidarity" would be based on might by your assertion. I'm sure you're fine with that because you live in a place where that isn't currently threatened or will be threatened for the foreseeable future. What I find interesting is the atheist never wants to honestly admit where their "solidarity" originated from.

@33adamwg Look it's pretty damn simple, we live in a world with other people (I hope we can agree on that), in order to live together we NEED to get along. Eating each other is NOT going to help.... right? THAT's called human solidarity, and THAT is where we get our morals from, not some magical invisible man in the sky.

@mariuspieter 1) Amuse me, what method can you possibly use (other than science and reason) to determine whether miracles exist? 2) Again - put yourself in my shoes - if other people have personal experiences with invisible unicorns, that's not sufficient evidence for me to believe it - same with your God. Do you know there are many religions all over the world who have 'personal experiences' with their flavor of religion - do your believe all those people (and the miracles they assert) as well?

@dave1122drum lol have you heard of legs getting lengthened? my friend had legs that grew unevenly since one of her legs got broken while she was still growing, so that leg didn't grow during that period, so that leg grew less than the other unbroken one...a man prayed for her, and her legs evened out...not quite a limb growing out of nothing, but it's certainly a restoration of a limb in SOME sense...?

@simcult Does that mean that you think that other views of morality are equally viable? If someone thinks cannibalism is acceptable, is that ok for them? You might say that that is wrong because it harms someone besides themself. But again, how do you justify that harming others is wrong? Everyone believes in absolute morality when their own health or property is put in danger.

@mariuspieter There is ONE thing Atheism explains - a lack of belief in god(s) - that's it, PERIOD. It does not explain the universe, it does not explain how we got here. It does not require a belief in evolution, it does not require a belief in the big bang. So you can forget about attempting to find 'holes' in Atheism to support your argument - and even if you could find holes, it still wouldn't help your case for a creator.

@dave1122drum no, not a tape measure...what they did was they had her sit in a chair and pushed her flush back against the backrest and she put out her legs so that the difference in length was obvious....they prayed, and they pushed her flush back again, and they found that it was even...my friend was actually stumbling for the next week cuz she wasn't used to walking evenly lol anyway...if you're just gonna continue with a closed mind and explain things away, i'm done here

God can do and does heal and other things as he pleases but the apostles were supposed to have special authority for the purpose of authentication of their message. The rest of the new testament was still being brought to them by the holy spirit and miracles were an authenticating sign for their message.By default if the apostles were to have special authority, what would that mean for us Christian that cannot be apostles(the bible states an apostle must have lived with Jesus and witnessed the risen Christ). If we as brothers and sisters agree that the word of God is complete, then when a person claims they are an apostle, either directly or inadvertently by the things they claim,we should find issue with that. I myself no longer have a back issue I used to have and my only explanation is God answered my prayers.I also have other issues that I haven't had healed. The problem with continuationism is it tends to spawn a lot of feels based heretical movements like the nar.
