I never bought the whole "clerical error" story for one simple reason. Once his suspension was up he would have still had to go to the DMV to get his license again. The DMV would have let him know that it was still showing as suspended and then he would have to go through all the rigamarole to get it fixed.

The reason he went back to jail was because he had a warrant for not showing for court on another driving without a license violation somewhere else. He also lied saying he was laid up injured unable to get to the secretary of the state (Michigan version of the DMV) to get his license. The judge also asked him he knew where he was on a certain date and he said he was injured unable to leave his home. Which was a lie because the judge could see in his records he went to the secretary of the state that day to renew his state ID.

Yeah, this... in fact, that was my favorite part of the newest saga: his honor had receipts. By showing that Harris had a state ID, and that he had renewed the ID, it proved that Harris knew full well that he didn't have a driver's license. Funny that part is missing from this video - it's a genuine fist-pump moment. The KZfaq channel Hon J Cedric Simpson Live Feed has about 26.3K subs as of this post. I wonder how many it had a week ago, and I wonder how many it will have later this summer when this case continues.

If you haven't seen the full clip, you gotta to watch it. It's SO much funnier when it plays out. At first the judge is like a little annoyed but kind of laughing that the guy joined the call driving. The dude slowly parks, stops the car. THEN the judge reads the paper and sees WHY the guy is there. For driving on a suspended license... So you get to see the comically annoyed switch to confusion and shock live. Then as the judge points it out the dude sits there with his mouth wide open and goes "Oh...............oh my god". Like he truly did not even consider it until the judge said something, then he realized. It really is absolute gold

The judge was suspended for 9 months because he tried to use his position to interfere with the police's investigation into his intern's DUI. Corey on the other hand got his driving privileges revoked because he was being a dead beat dad who didn't pay child support then went and told half truths and lies to the media to make him seem like a victim.

Judge Simpson is amazing. If you ever have time I highly recommend watching the livestream of his court. He's the most fair and even handed judge I've seen, but you better respect the court workers, prosecutors, and public defenders.

Not gonna lie, suspending someones license because of unpaid child support seems kindof fucked. Maybe im missing something but how does suspending someone's license (which will likely make it harder for them to work a job and earn money) make it more likely they will pay the child support. Seems more like the goal there is to punish and keep poor people poor instead of trying to fix the issue, which is the unpaid child support. I know in this case the guy never had a license so it doesnt matter here, but it does seem like thats a punishment that gets given to those who dont pay child support.

One of the more interesting things about this story is how it highlights what it actually means to have a "suspended license", which almost every article and video I've seen (including this one) gets wrong in the wording. He never had a license, so it never was suspended nor reinstated. In general, what actually happens is that driving privileges are suspended. A license just serves as proof of these driving privileges. That's why all the previous events with him having his "license suspended" and then having his "license restored" make sense even though he never had one, and why there was never any clerical error as was claimed at one point; it was actually his driving privileges that were suspended, and his ability to obtain certification of those privileges (i.e., get a license) that was restored.
