The Lexus ES Hybrid is an excellent choice. When I had the BMW, I was trying to build my own transportation company. I wanted a vehicle that would give me the greatest opportunity for success so I chose the BMW 7 Series. My goal to have my own independent company was not successful. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun along the way. Uber Select, Black, SUV and Lux are no longer worth the aggravation and lack of revenue.

“Collateral” is one of my favorite films. The part that always sticks with me is when Jamie Fox is telling Tom Cruise about his dream to have his own limo. Jamie gives all the reasons why he can’t have his own car. Tom says just go out and get the car. That is what I did with the BMW - I wanted a new vehicle for my Uber business and I found a way to get the car I needed. I worked as best I could with the resources I had available to be but in the end I failed to achieve my goal with the BMW. I am learning what I can from this experience and will try things a different way. I do take being an Independent Professional Driver VERY seriously. At this point in my life, it is all I have and I must treasure what I have built as an independent driver.

Max Power - UberBLACK and UberSUV is closed to new professional partners in Los Angeles. The only way for new partners to get in with Uber is UberLUX - hence the reason why I have the 740. If I could have gotten in with a Yukon XL, I would have done it in a heartbeat. The SUV earns more money and GM makes it EASY to finance one. I rented a 2013 Suburban and I was able to pick up rides on XL, BLACK and SUV. I was busy with groups who almost always tipped, were FUN and took rides that provided nice fares. And that was at the XL rate. I am happy with the sedan but the SauV was very fun. Lyft offers and alternative because if I had a TAHOE, I could use that vehicle on every service they offer in LA - Line, Classic, Plus, Premier, Lux and Lux SUV and no TCP or commercial insurance is necessary.

Max Power - I have found that the way to make money with Uber in LA is to focus on UberSELECT. The hassle of the TCP, insurance and incorporating make UberBLACK and UberLUX a wash. I hardly made money with just those two services. When I added SELECT and focused on that service, my income was fine. I would LOVE to run an SUV, but I would be forced to rent from someone already in with Uber as a pro partner with no hope of owning my own vehicle and going solo. UberLUX offers me that BUT the market for LUX is VERY thin in LA.

Ride With Peterson . you are right, the commercial insurance, licensing (here in nyc we have no option but to deal with the nyc's Taxi and Limosine Commission (TLC) if you wamt to drive UBER/LYFT at all. Its expensive and lots of time to get my 'Driver Taxi License' and then 'My vehicle inspection'' (3months from start to end without making mistakes) HUGE Hassle. Good for you, if we had UBER SELECT in nyc like you do, ill do the same. Best regards

Max Power - if I were in NYC I absolutely would get an SUV because you can make so much more money with the flexibility of the vehicle. The sedans are nice but they limit revenue potential. If I were to get an SUV in Los Angeles, I would have to depend on customers from everywhere else than Uber. Right now, Uber is a very reliable source of customers. But I am researching other options like Blacklane and Opoli. Those services want you to do others things like waiting at the airport, wearing specific clothing and offering a level of service on par with chauffeur service. Uber is a bit more relaxed in some areas and I like that, but I will adapt if necessary.

I am working on an update to Uber Select vehicles, especially SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) and CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicles). Many changes with Uber and Lyft have happened since that video was posted.

That is the one thing I do not like about my 740. When the air suspension goes out, everything has to be replaced. The dealer quoted me $4,000 for the job.

Not sure what market you are in but here in dallas i drive the Infiniti QX60 2015, it qualifies for Select, XL and Comfort.

Congratulations on your E350. You will enjoy more money per ride, better customers and zero POOL and Line rides. I recommend you focus on UberSELECT and Lyft Premier & Lyft Lux rides. No need to offer Lyft Line, Lyft, UberPOOL and UberX rides anymore. I am incorporated as Ride With Peterson Incorporated in California. I rent my current vehicle but plan to purchase it outright when the warranty expires at 100,000 miles. I expect that to happen next year. The vehicle will be replaced at 150,000 miles. I charge $75 per hour, capped at $595 for all day assignments. Airport trips are $75 each way when the trip originates in LA or OC Counties. If I need to cross the county line, the rate is $150 each way. I make exceptions for those who live close to the county line. I use the airport trips as a loss leader because I almost always have those clients in the future as multi-hour and all day clients.

Andy Drew exactly. I have a Nissan Sentra I paid 18k for. You have a 40k Mercedes you pay 40k more but you make twice as much. That seems even, right? but think how much more a Mercedes costs in premium gas, maintenance, maybe even the car insurance costs more.

At the end of the day, I make $200 AFTER deducting vehicle expenses with the BMW. I made $150 BEFORE deducting vehicle expenses as an X driver.

If I were able to consistently generate $350/day as an UberX driver, there would have been no need for me to be Uber Black.

batmangsxr - I decided to get the 7 Series because I was FED UP with riders always asking me to move my seat forward, especially when only one passenger was in the car and chose to sit behind me. Having the 7 eliminates ANY need for me to move the seat. The extra money I pay is worth it. Everyone is comfortable. My rating is 4.98 in large part because of the car I use for Uber & Lyft.

Moe Yasser - I think it is unfortunate the Audi Q7 is not on the UberSUV list of approved vehicles. It doesn’t matter anyway because UberSUV is closed to new TCP partners. You must have an UberLUX vehicle in Los Angeles. The Q7 works fine with LyftLux and Lyft Premier. My understanding about Audi’s is that they are expensive to maintain. I read a post on UberPeople where a turbo replacement was $10,000. She was thankful the replacement was covered warranty. I also has a wealth client who told me to avoid Audi. She owned three. Loved the cars but they were always in the shop for on thing or another. Expenses were just a hassle. She has a Tesla now and loves it. When a rich person tells you to avoid a particular car they actually like and owned, it pays to consider their experience.

Moe Yasser - Uber and Lyft make their own rules regarding which vehicles qualifies for the various service offerings. Lyft is far more generous and flexible than Uber is.

Volvo XC90 works just fine. Won't qualify for Uber SUV even if they ever open it to new drivers. Do qualify for everything for Lyft though.

The illogical choices Uber makes regarding which vehicles can be used in each category is one big reason why Lyft is better in some ways to Uber. A Range Rover doesn’t qualify for UberSUV either, most likely because it only seats 4 riders. I don’t know if the vehicle can be used for UberSELECT. The AudiQ7 should qualify for UberSUV BUT if you try to argue the case at the Greenlight Hub or in email, the request to have it added to those platforms will be denied, just like the Cadillac CT6 does not qualify for UberBLACK or UberLUX in Los Angeles.

Ride With Peterson what I find funny is that the XC90 seats 7, it's the car that Uber bought like 20000 of for their attempt at ai vehicles and I guarantee that if that ever happens, not likely, they will then approve it for SUV. They do some stupid stuff.

Mario Alberto Junior - I think an XL/Select vehicle is a fantastic choice if you can ge the vehicle. You make more money than any X vehicle and you avoid UberPOOL. I drove a 2013 Suburban as UberXL and those rides were some of the best I ever had. You ALWAYS have a happy group of people who almost always tip well. The trips are usually a good distance and I never once had an XL cancellation no matter how long it took me to arrive to the destination. I believe there are only two vehicles that qualify for XL AND Select in Los Angeles & Orange County - Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT. I do not know if any other XL SUVs also qualify for Select. If they do, it would open up a lot of opportunity for those who operate full size SUVs without a TCP permit.

Chris S - you have the best of Four worlds - the ability to focus on higher paying rides, avoiding X and POOL rides, using a single vehicle, none of the hassles going commercial entails. As far as I know, only two vehicles qualifies for both XL and SELECT in California - the Ford Flex and the Lincoln MKT. The MKT is also an UberBLACK vehicle. In LA, your Yukon XL qualifies for Uber XL only. If it is 2013 or newer, Black/Black with leather interior and the appropriate TCP, commercial insurance and registration and airport permits, it also qualifies as UberBLACK and UberSUV. However, Uber is no longer accepting commercial partners unless they bring a 2013 or newer UberLUX vehicle to the service. Hence, my reason for the BMW I now drive.

Frank E - I created this channel specifically for people like you - you want to make decent driving rideshare but you want to be properly compensated. Your BMW X1 qualifies only for UberX. At minimum, the BMW X3 qualifies for UberSELECT and Lyft Premier. I chose the 7 Series because I drive full time - I am usually in the car 15 hours daily. I am a huge advocate of UberSELECT. In Los Angeles, the rate is $2.41/mile and 40¢ per minute. The driver generates $1.8075 per mile and 30¢ per minute after the Uber 25% commission. The cancellation rate paid to the driver is $7.50. Per 100 passenger miles, I generate $180.75. UberX generates $72 for the same mileage (without surge). UberSELECT is worth it for short trips or long 2 hour drives. I generally make $350 for 12 hours of work. With UberSELECT, I make twice as much money in half the time, driving half as much with half the fuel. And I never deal with UberPOOL. If a 7 Series or S Class isn’t the right vehicle for you, I recommend a 2010 Lexus ES350. I always advise one model year newer than the minimum required. Although the car can be any color combination as UberSELECT or Lyft Premier, I always recommend Black:Black or at least a Black interior. Having 100 different people a month enter and exit a vehicle will bring in a lot of dirt - light interiors will look bad in a short period of time. If you can swing it, I recommend a 2012 or newer Lexus ES because you can also use the vehicle for Lyft Premier AND Lyft Lux in addition to UberSELECT. I will create a different video about the benefits of Lyft Premier, Lyft Lux and UberSELECT. The BMW and Mercedes-Benz are options for those who want to establish their own private limo company with a TCP permit.

Frank E : Hello Frank, Mr. Peterson is right about the Lexus 350. I drove that car in NYC UBER BLACK market for a year, overall perfect car for UBER BLACK in NYC. Base on what you shared, generally speaking, doing this type of work requires long hours (6-12hrs straight, mostly rush hours) to make it worth earning enough to justify your time as a part timer driver. Highend UBER Select ,or UBER BLACK in NYC , L.A. is doable part time due to the highen areas that will use UBER SELECT, UBER PREMIUM. However, if you are not in a highend market with rich, corporate customers, not to many people use UBER SELECT outside highend neighborhoods and highend commersial areas. On average expect one UBER SELECT ride per hour during rush hours or high demand times like late night Friday, Saturday nights, bar crowd who are not pleasant to deal with. Unless you live or work in a big highend, rich neighborhood or high end commercial market like L.A., like Mr. Peterson, or NYC, dont waste your time and money getting a highend vehicle just for UBER SELECT, just my opinion......... unless you already have the highend vehicle and want to drive UBER SELECT for fun and dont mind waiting an hour per ride request, then to findout its 5 minute small trip for $14, and other days you will wait an hour to get long trips request for $110.

Quaker Oats - My BMW 740i is not a gas hog. On the highway, it gets 30MPG. I use half a tank daily, $30 to $35 worth of gas. I spend $210/week for fuel. Even though I complete 10 - 14 trips per day, I generate $1.80 per passenger mile for UberSELECT rides, more for BLACK and LUX. My minimum fare and cancellation fee is $8.00. I generate more income for far less work and less premium fuel.

Hey Semih - Do not waste your time with UberX unless you are in a critical situation where you need $100 via InstantPay and are willing to drive 12 hours for it. I make $100 with two 4AM airport drop off trips. My cancellation fee is $7.50. I do not deal with any UberPOOL rides. In addition to UberSELECT, I STRONGLY advise you work Lyft Premier and Lyft Lux. Help yourself and just get your Mercedes Jet Black/Black. You may want to consider going through the process of getting a TCP. Contact BusinessRocket.net for more advice on that option. I recommend TCP for those who get a full size luxury sedan and who do this full time. For most people, the hassle and frustration and expense of TCP isn't worth it anymore. Rideshare has reduced the overall earning potential of sedans. There is still money to be made with luxury sedans, but it is no longer easy. I generally don't give specific advice on where to go because many times, my advice did not work for others the way experience has worked for me. I have several specific spots I wait for pings. These areas ALWAYS work for me, but I don't openly give that info. The best thing I can tell you is to keep track of where your BEST pickups happen. Also, watch the SUV's. Many of those guys have wonderful experience. Seeing where they are helps you plan where to be - and where to avoid. If it takes me longer than 45 minutes to get a ping, I change locations. I generally get 10 - 14 trips consistently every day **IF** I work 14 hours daily, usually 4AM to 6PM. Basically a trip an hour, overall average of $20 per trip. I generally make $250 - $375 daily. Sometimes more if I get a trip to Palm Springs or Santa Barbara. I get those about once a month. THAT SAID, in Los Angeles, the boundaries for good UberSELECT trips are: North of I-10, south of US-101, west of LaCienega/Fairfax. In the beach cities, take Sepulveda and drive south of Manhattan Beach Blvd. The BEST days to drive UberSELECT - Thursday after 7PM, all day Friday, ALL DAY Saturday and Sunday until 9PM. The slowest days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Monday is great for multiple LAX drop offs. If UberX is surging 2.7+, position yourself in those areas. You may get a ride where someone who usually rides X looks at SELECT and notices the rate is cheaper for a better car. SELECT does not surge like X. If you see a surge in SELECT, don't chase it unless it is close by. It generally goes away once you reach the area. Remember, as an UberSELECT driver, you ALWAYS make $1.80 per mile. If you focus on SELECT, you will notice that you make more money while driving less and using half the fuel. The obvious spots for UberSELECT, UberBLACK and UberLUX are: Santa Monica Downtown Los Angeles Beverly Hills West Hollywood Sunset Strip Manhattan Beach Hermosa Beach Redondo Beach Events at Hollywood Bowl, Rose Bowl, Dodger Stadium, Coliseum, Coachella. I do not wait for pings in any of those areas unless a ride takes me there and a ping happens to catch me while I'm in those areas. LAX is a paradox for me. I don't wait there, either. After I drop off at LAX, I turn off the app, open the windows and sunroof and drive away quickly unless I need to use the portapotty. I generally have 4 LAX drop-offs daily, but for some reason I have NEVER received a ping at LAX after waiting multiple times, 3 hours each time - on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for UberSELECT, UberBLACK, UberSUV or UberLUX rides. Any major event such as Dodger Stadium, Rose Bowl, Hollywood Bowl, Greek Theater, Griffith Observatory, The Forum are good spots. I take riders to all of those places, but I no longer wait for pings at any of those places. When events are happening in those areas, I make it a point to be at a distance that avoids pings. Agoura Hills and Santa Barbara are good places for rides because they are wealthy areas underserved by premium Uber and Lyft services. I was also told to try Disneyland as many travelers want to travel from Orange County to Hollywood. I think SUV's would be more successful due to families and groups. In these cases, you have to be patient and really smart about going there for rides. The money has been great for me in those areas, but I generally need to work 12 hours there to make it worth it.

Tone Lee - the vehicle must be registered and insured in California for use on any ride share platform. The driver name must be listed on the insurance policy that identifies the vehicle used (make, model, VIN). For commercial registered vehicles, an insurance declaration page listing the driver as an authorized user satisfies this requirement. These rules are likely the same for every state.

Tone Lee - if California allows you to register your vehicle with an out of state address, you might run into a problem. You will need commercial insurance and from what I understand, the company must have a California address to obtain California commercial insurance.

Tone Lee - you also need a California driver license to drive rideshare in California.

My information is for Los Angeles, CA. Every city is different. In Los Angeles, the vehicle must be 2009 or newer. In Los Angeles, many of the full size SUVs you mention do not qualify for UberSELECT, such as the Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade. Lyft is MUCH better at managing this because their vehicle list is applied nationally. Uber is inconsistent and you must check with your Greenlight hub before committing to a specific.

Three issues with the list already: The Porsche Panamera is a four seat vehicle. Uber clearly states that all vehicles must seat four passengers yet three seat vehicles like the Panamera and Volkswagen CC are allowed. The Cadillac CT6 is nowhere to be seen. It is clearly a luxury vehicle yet there is no mention of it qualifying for UberSELECT. The last model year for the Cadillac STS was 2011, yet this list says 2013 or newer. The Tesla Model S was not available until 2012. The Tesla Model X was not available until 2015. Uber is inconsistent and inaccurate with their vehicle lists city to City. Vehicles that qualify for Select in some cities don’t qualify for Select in others. This list is NOT for Los Angeles.

Lastly, Uber's list is not perfect. Your comment is why I posted the video. Lyft has a list of vehicles and the services they qualify for that is uniformly applied nationwide. Uber uses arbitrarily determined regional and local criteria when identifying which vehicles qualify for specific services. X XL and Select is generally straight forward. The XL/Select combination is where things begin to get confusing and sometimes illogical. Black SUV and Lux is worse. Things get worse when trying to use a vehicle for multiple services. The inconsistent nature of how Uber qualifies vehicles for use on the platform is a source of confusion especially with brands redefining themselves like Cadillac, Lincoln, and Volvo.

Uber and Lyft will likely approve your vehicle for their platforms even though you have the partition. In order to get Uber Black ride requests in California, you need a TCP permit, commercial insurance, commercial registration and airport permits. Using your vehicle on Select is good if you don’t want to go through the hassle of TCP. Lyft Lux and Lyft Lux Black is an alternative to Uber Select and Uber Black. The rates are identical to Uber Select and Uber Black, respectively, but the probability of riders is lower. You will definitely meet people but the interactions will be short lived. You may not be as busy as you hope for because I generally receive one ride request between 15 minutes to an hour. You will also encounter people who just wont respect your property. You will have to be vigilant in keeping your vehicle clean and odor free. Your vehicle will age faster and the miles will pile on much faster than you expect. I am on the fence outright recommending or encouraging you to use a Maybach on rideshare unless you are a full time limo company with a solid client base and want to use rideshare as supplemental. Black and Lux is not for part timers due to the cost. Keeping busy and meeting new people you can do that with Select. If you’re crazy to do it on X you should consider leveraging it into a KZfaq channel to make money. If you are still serious about doing this, I can provide a much more detailed response to you because having a vehicle like a Maybach, Bentley or Rolls Royce brings about a whole different set of concerns that a regular S Class it BMW 7 Series does not. Some of those concerns may not apply to you.

Cy Jay - Commercial driver license is not needed for rideshare. Think of UberSELECT and Lyft Premier/Lux/LuxSUV as UberX and Lyft supercharged. All you need is a nice car to make more money. For UberBLACK, UberSUV and UberLUX, Commercial vehicle registration, commercial vehicle insurance and an active TCP permit are required. Most TCP holders also choose to incorporate or organize an LLC to run their business. You can be a sole proprietor TCP and have the vehicle registered in your name, but the above rules still apply. I mentioned my commercial license because I decided to keep it even though I no longer drive a City bus. A commercial driver license is a selling point to private clients due to the higher requirements to obtain the license and keep it active.

The vehicle can be any color but it is recommended the interior be black. A light color interior will show off a ton of dirt in a month.

The oldest an UberSELECT vehicle can be for Los Angeles is model year 2009. It may change to 2010 later this year.. For other markets, I am not aware of the rules.

I use an Apple iPhone 6s Plus. The front camera, default 720p settings. I have a Scosche Window/Dash Mount on my upper windshield.

The interior must me leather or leather like. It can be any color. The exterior can be any color. UberBLACK, UberSUV and UberLUX require specific vehicles with a Black Interior with Black exterior.

I recommend a black interior no matter what vehicle you use for rideshare - light colored interiors will get dirty fast.

In my opinion, the GMC Yukon XL SLT is the best overall vehicle for Independent Professional Drivers. It qualifies for just about everything. It is a highly capable and flexible vehicle. The SLT offers everything the driver needs to do the job with confidence, including leather seats, power second and third row folding seats, power folding mirrors, and blind spot monitor. A BMW 740i is best if you want to focus, specialize or prioritize the Luxury Client. Lower cost of operation than a Mercedes-Benz S550. Superior interior room and comfort than just about everything else out the. The Lexus LS has a very comfortable rear seat but the rear passenger foot area behind and under the front seats when they are fully pushed back is not as accommodating as the BMW.

That would also mean the Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Escalade and Escalade ESV also qualify for UberSELECT in Los Angeles, California. The vehicle will have 100,000 by January 1, 2019. The vehicle is absolutely fantastic and I would absolutely purchase another one with more equipment. I currently have a base model with three minor options - ventilated front seats, air fragrance package and Black kidney grille.

I love the Porsche Panamera. However it does not qualify for any Uber category because it seats only four people total. There is no center rear seat position. I love the style and performance of the vehicle but it consumes a lot of gas and maintenance isn’t exactly friendly after warranty coverage has ended. The vehicle is also tight on rear interior space. Great vehicle, not a good fit for rideshare.

That vehicle definitely qualifies for XL Select and Lyft Premier and Lyft LUX SUV with Black exterior.

Uber Select, Uber Black and Uber Lux are the premium services. Make sure to check the information on your city to confirm you have these options. Some areas only have X and XL. Some areas offer Black as the highest possible offering. Uber Black and Uber Lux require commercial vehicle registration, commercial vehicle insurance, and depending on your area other permits.

A 2009 or newer 3 Series is considered UberSELECT in Los Angeles.

That requirement is for certain markets like Atlanta. If Uber required me to pick up X and POOL rides in my BLACK car (required in Atlanta), I would discontinue driving on Uber.

UberSELECT and UberXL is a combination you have to fight for in a few emails or at the Hub. UberSUV is considered a professional class vehicle in Los Angeles. UberSELECT is non-professional. I asked many times about a Suburban on SELECT and XL but was told no. So I went LUX. POOL, X, XL and SELECT do not require a TCP permit, commercial registration, commercial registration, airports or Black color restriction. BLACK, SUV and LUX require TCP, Black color, commercial registration, commercial insurance and airport permits. They also require higher ratings. I had a 2013 Suburban on UberSUV, UberBLACK and UberXL. UberSELECT was never given as an option with the Suburban. However, an UberSELECT CROSSOVER vehicle that can seat the driver and six passengers does qualify for UberXL. Three vehicles that surely qualify - Infiniti JX/QX60, Lexus GX460 and the Lincoln MKT. As much as I love the BMW, I would rather have a GMC Yukon XL on UberSELECT, UberXL, Lyft Lux SUV, Lyft Lux, Lyft Premier and Lyft Plus. The SUV is easier to acquire financially, less expensive to maintain and the ride categories = more income opportunities.

Ride With Peterson I figured it out after Calling the customer service. She told me I have to make 30 trips with uberX first, and maintain 4.7 stars or higher so I can do Uberselect.

does a Maserati make any profit with UBER , even though a beautiful riding experience for you and the passengers.... they are not known to be reliable and long term could turn out to be very costly in maintenance... in general Italian cars are not about reliability - like German or Japanese cars - they are rather about beautiful design and maybe performance...
