J'ai passé quelques années en France et dans les pays francophones. Malgré le fait que cela fait un petit moment depuis je me suis lancée à l'apprentissage de la langue française, de temps en temps il y a les nuances qui m'échappent. Bonjour ! Cet épisode sur les nuances des mots pour dire regret ou excuses est super ! Maintenant installé en France, je trouve ces expressions sont intégrées profondément dans la culture française, et il y a beaucoup de situations où on a besoin de connaître les différences. This reminds me of an encounter I had at Galleries Lafayette many years ago. I was trying to ask if they had any Swarovski crystal tattoos, which supposedly were only available in France. We gave up after a few minutes trying to figure everything out, between my broken French and her broken English. I said "Je suis desolee," and she responded "I'm sorry," and then we had a good laugh. 😂

Bonne et utile vidéo! "Je suis désolé": lorsqu'on est gêné, fâché. "Excusez-moi": lorsqu'on risque de déranger quelqu'un, par exemple pour accéder à son siège dans un avion. "Veuillez m'excuser": lorsqu'on a heurté ou blessé quelqu'un.

Great lesson! It's good to remember that language and culture are inseparable. To have your words and *intentions* understood, you need not only grammar/vocabulary but cultural knowledge like this. French culture is somewhat more formal than American culture, and it's important for us Americans to keep that in mind when we speak.

Hi Nelly, My name is Omar. I am a Lebanese who lives in the USA. In the right environment, your accent will be an advantage, a conversation starter, and possibly the start of great friendships and relationships. Besides Arabic, I speak French and German. I leaned a little bit of Spanish on Duolingo. After 3 decades in the USA, I am still asked where are you from? Or where is this accent from? 😮 It just happened this afternoon at a pharmacy. As soon as I started speaking, the cashier asked me where are you from? I said China. She started laughing. Then I said Lebanon. She turned out to be from Ukraine. We spoke briefly about growing up in war torn countries then I left. Thanks for mentioning Lingoda. I’ll look at it tomorrow morning. My brain is fried now. Good luck with English. Being an Arabic and French and German speaker, I found English to be a much easier language to learn. No le, la and les articles to remember. The does it. 😂 You’ll do very well. Cheers.

I think me means, she says all the words and talks slowly so we can hear the words clearly without any of the words shortened or contracted.

Most of the French I hear is ‘mushy’ and not well articulated or enunciated.

@@_Diggler From my experience, older French people generally speak more clearly with a better articulation. Their diction is more precise. Younger people tend to mush syllables together. The same is true with English and I suspect with all languages. It’s as if people are just getting lazier and lazier when speaking. French people have told me that younger English speakers are hard for them to understand too.

Your lesson is very clear and pleasant easy to understand and assimilate unfortunately I have to learn Spanish now and I can't find one Spanish website that comes close to this maybe I'll give up on Spanish in return to French they live in a place where there's a lot of Spanish speakers so it's useful for me to improve my Spanish but the truth is I much prefer French
