Thank you for touching on the video editing timeline performance. For some reason other reviewers don't talk about that much or at all and that is sooooooooooo much more important (imo at least) than export time.

Hello, congratulate you on your analysis, very good. I want to ask you for some advice, I don't know which version of the laptop to buy, the prices are similar but there are different characteristics, I am talking about the GIGABYTE AERO 16 model with RTX 4070 and the GIGABYTE AORUS 17H with RTX 4080, which one do you advise me to buy? I will use it more for creative work and video editing in 4k. I wait your answer.
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
It really depends on what app you are working with and how portable you want your laptop to be. The aero is much easier to carry around and will have better battery life. And the screen comes with that colour profile switcher that I mentioned in the video and is tremendously helpful when colour grading. The aorus will give you much more performance, especially since the GPU is a lot faster and runs with more juice!

Great review! If you had to pick one to be your main laptop, would you pick this new Gigabyte Aero 16 OLED or the Dell XPS 15 9520 OLED from last year? Which one has the better keyboard and trackpad? I'm torn between the two since the Gigabyte has a newer CPU and GPU, but the difference is so minimal that I'm not considering them as a deciding factor. Both are priced the same and very similar overall, but from what I keep hearing, the battery seems to be noticeably better on the Dell.
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
I have a Dell XPS 15 here right now, and in terms of performance, especially regarding the GPU, the AERO is much faster. It has the better IO, but they are equal in terms of chassis quality. It comes down to what you do with your machine, but if they are priced the same, I would personally go for the AERO. - AlexBig-screen gaming just got an upgrade! - Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 Hands-On Teaser #shorts

I have a 17inch 4k laptop that is a few years old that I want to replace, but 15 inch screens are too small for my taste. Good question .... I would say it compares better to a 17" than to a 15". 15" feels very small, even coming from a 16". The added height makes it feel much bigger than one would expect. It is quite the ideal sweet spot between the two more traditional sizes. - Alex

@Cut That If there was credible evidence of that I can think of a lot of technology outlets that would not be ignoring the story. To add to that: Nvidia have many overstocked 3000 series cards to sell. It's nonsensical to suggest that they would not support frame generation on them if they could.

@@kylerclarke2689 imo they will support only if FSR 3.0 will bring similar functionality and will be avail on RTX3XXX. In case of this laptop, FG makes little sense, since it only have 60Hz screen. Sure you could hook it up to big screen, then it makes mores sense. I've bought older aero 16 with 3070ti (and flashed to 130W, to get 11k TS score), since new gen was 75% more than older :O No point in paying 2/3 more just for frame gen, slightly better screen and ports.

Hey does the laptop screen bend on your unit? I saw another review by Matthew Moniz and there's a shot in the video where he lies the screen on a table and all the commenters noticed a bend in the screen. Ordered this just now, open box from leading UK retailer Currys, for a little under £1,400 including delivery. This review massively helped me pull the trigger, as I know this source actually tests laptops hard. I especially appreciated the fan noise clips with the contextual key taps - as someone with significant sound sensitivity, noise levels were definitely a key concern of mine, and it seems like these fans aren't intolerable at all. Although given this specification, and in particular the 4070 efficiency, I may be able to run everything on silent mode for the near future anyway! Thank you!

@shinydavidhowell Ай бұрын
@@VP-ri5pb Honestly not sure! The screen is as fabulous as I hoped, I've had some issues with coil whine but it's just about bearable for me and would probably not be noticed by most... Similarly, fan noise in gaming is hard to ignore but not unusual (or intolerable even for me). Meanwhile, performance (and my model was a 4060 not 4070, no other difference from this review spec) seems to be impressive. Admittedly I've not tested it with the kind of games most people would, but the notoriously unoptimised Cities Skylines II handles the very early stages even at the native resolution, and Civilization VI (my most-played game) looks amazing at maxed-out 4K and even endgame turns aren't hugely delayed. Because I play slow games like this, image quality and loading speed is more important to me than FPS, and this delivers for that.

If it wasn't for DLSS 3, most people would not look at this card in that laptop or in the desktops compared to price. I have the aero with the 3060 version and the i7 11th gen oled 4K and it is still a pretty damn impressive laptop since I use it for on the go video editing, 3D modeling, working on Unity, and After Effects. Honestly, I think keeping it at any generation "60" is the best bang for the power. I think no one really games at 4K as I believe the sweet spot is still 1440p. I just can't see the pricing of the new generation cards compared to productivity and gaming. I still own a desktop with i7 8700k, 64 gigs of ram, and the 1080 ti and with Nvidia's new upscale update for the old cards, that desktop is still rocking hard running almost every games extremely well at 1440p when it was meant for 1080p. The desktop I have now has the i7 13th Gen with a 3080 and 32 gigs of ram and honestly, that set up is really, really good. Although I wanted the 3080 ti, it is forever gone. It's cool that a laptop can store the 80 and 90 versions of any cards but honestly, the 60 of any version cards will always be the best when comparing price to power. Anything after that, might as well just get a desktop.

@Mario Zamora Totally agree with what you're saying. Only a few main manufacturers go full 1440p or 4K screen on laptops with the "60" cards and it's either a hit or miss, but I have seen those laptops being a hit more than miss. The rest of the manufacturers know they're trying to milk money from people so like you said dont go full throttle. I know the Aero 15 I have is an incredible well put laptop. From watching movies, video editing, visual effects, 3D modeling, and using Unity at 4K to video gaming wise at 1440p with most titles all maxed out at Ultra or on high - most games run smooth at 60 fps and for the heavy ones 45-50 fps with the 3060 and i7 11th Gen. That aero 15 is going to last me a long time until I wanna buy the 4060 version.

I'm really interested in understanding the noise levels on this. It was one of the biggest complaints about the previous gen Aero's - "hairdryer" was a phrase I saw used often. My main use case is as an audio production laptop, so I need it to be pretty quite in general. I don't anticipate typically driving it so that it's sweating so hard it needs massive cooling to be going on. I'm interested in understanding how noisy it is at mid level loads. A constant white noise going all the time ( even if it's "quite" ) would be a problem for me in a critical listening environment. My air conditioner is somewhat a a problem for reference - not overly noisy, but certainly also not quiet. The Macbook has no fans and is quiet which is why it's so popular, but I don't want to migrate to Mac - staying with windows. I've got my supplier ready to order a 64GB spec for for me, but I don't want to make a rather expensive mistake and end up regretting it ! Can you expand a bit on the noise as it's difficult to judge how noisy it actually is in the room by looking at those noise samples in the video.

A Thought : I could disable the Nvidia and run off the intel gpu while doing audio work. I'd be using an external monitor though I've read the HDMI out is forced to use the Nvidia. Good review. It seems Gigabyte is slowly picking up on its mistakes with the previous Aero line. The specs on the 4070 do feel a bit too much like planned obsolescence though, especially in the memory issue. It seems terribly unintuitive to cripple high-res performance on a card like this, when pretty much every machine equiped with it is going to rock at least a 16:10 1440p display, or an outright 4K one. That single core performance might be some driver issue, it seems terribly unlikely that the cooling system could drive the multi-core test that hard but falter in a single core test. 13th gen Intels are performing well, as expected. The speaker test is almost funny, *my god* that's like a different song entirely. Still, I will take bad speakers and stellar screen over the opposite any day of the week. I take my headphones wherever I go, but carting around a monitor kind of misses the point of buying a notebook, eh? Surprising battery life for an Intel chip. Overall, it seems like they sacrificed far less than they did previously, aided in no small amount by the 4070 just not going that high in wattage. I do believe a more experienced builder like Lenovo or Asus could have squeezed out the last ten watts out of the 4070 though- they've delivered higher power limits in similar, or even smaller chassis in the past. I can see something like an art or archtecture studio buying twenty of these for their staff when refreshing their equipment- performance is good enough, the biggest cut corner is audio which, if I'm honest is the easiest one to forgive in a notebook, the screen is excellent for indoor use and the price is probably going to be a few hundred to a thousand dollars less than the rest of the art-focused competition. Of course, you take the OLED screen out of consideration and last gen offers the same performance for a thousand fewer dollars, so one's milage my vary.
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
Yes, they did, thank god. I wish they would have given the 4070 10gigs of VRAM, especially with the "Creator" focus, since some applications use all of the available video memory. A BIOS update will likely fix the single-core situation since the CPU only goes up to 20W in such scenarios. Or, that is just a theory. They configured it that way to keep the fans from pulsing in various low-load scenarios ... But that is just a thought on my end. Maybe it is really just a driver thing. When it comes to the speakers, I have my headphones connected to my laptops all the time anyways. But whenever I use a macbook or something with good speakers, I also tend to use them more... But as you said, it is the easiest thing to forgive!

With the Dell XPS17 9710 I can run 4 external 4K monitors @60hz with just 2 TB cables, that wouldn't work with the Aero (despite having 2 TB4 ports) as half of the GPU interfaces are assigned to its video outputs.

For Aero 16, it's a big improvement this year. For RTX4070, it's a trap. Both 3070Ti and 4070 performed almost the same without frame generation. It's kind of depends on whether or not buyers want to buy a laptop that has frame generation support. But the price gap between 3070Ti and 4070 is at least $300🤣, which is also a efficient strategy for Nvidia to clean up inventory of 30 series.
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
You might be right about their intentions when it comes to pricing. But you can not generally say these cards perform the same. It comes down to wattage and cooling. Most AAA titles from now onwards are going to support frame generation. The 2023 model also offers a mux switch and a much better port selection and the charging port to the back, not to the right hand side where it gets in the way of your mouse. I did not test it, but since the 2022 olny offers Displayport via Thunderbolt, it wasn't even possible to connect an externa screen directly to the NVIDIA graphics card.

It was supposed to be a 4060laptop and Nvidia changed name of it later since AMD couldn't deliver a decent laptop GPU this time. Look slike RTX 4070 is very power efficient and able to perform better than its 3000 series counterparts in low wattage configuration. However, is it only me or other people noticed that RTX 4070 performs lower in higher resolution like in QHD? Probably the 128 Bit memory Bus and lower memory bandwidth of 256GB/s compared to 448 GB/s in RTX 3070 Ti Mobile, is the main culprit here. In my opinion, this year Nvidia is trying do portray a clear disntiction between their higher end Mobile GPUs and the mid-end GPUs, unlike 300 series where it was sometimes within 10% (between a RTX 3070 Ti and and a RTX 3080).
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
I think that was NVIDIA's intention as well. Given that some 3070 Ti last year have easily outperformed some low-wattage 3080s, I doubt we will see that happening a lot this year.

Would you take this over the Zephyrus M16 4080 with the Mini LED screen?

Uff, that is a callous question. I prefer the Aero's chassis and, actually, the OLED. Then again, a 4080 is lovely, and so is having a faster screen than 60 Hz. Please do not make me choose. That is just cruel!

@@NotebookcheckReviews I only ask because my Asus M16 RTX 4080 arrives today, & it cost me an eye watering £3,300. & I'm unsure whether I made the right choice, & whether I should have looked at more 4070 machines first, becase the Aero is "only" £2400 for the same CPU, but a 4070 & oled. The 60hz is a big problem though, I think that's a deal breaker in 2023.

@@WildfireX given the 4070 doesn't perform any better than the 3070 Ti, you can get the previous Gigabyte Aero 16 with the same OLED display for as little as $1299 in the US. As much as I hate the port selection, I couldn't stomach paying nearly 2X as much for a few more USB A ports for otherwise nearly identical hardware.
