'Brenga' in the Garo language is a method of cooking food inside the hollow of a bamboo. This method of cooking is commonly practiced across the North-eastern states of India and also in South-East Asia.
Earlier people used to cook inside a bamboo when they traveled long distances on foot through forests and farm workers who did not carry utensils with them.
Cooking with bamboo gives the food its distinct flavour. Maybe, because of that cooking inside bamboo became more established practice, Nowadays cooking inside a bamboo is done even at homes and more so during special occasions and festivals.
Do'o brenga is a very popular, hot and tasty Garo delicacy where chicken is cooked with ginger, onion, garlic and lots and lots of chilies inside the hollow of a bamboo.
