Here's a technique I use when twisting hair. I braid the base about one or two revolutions and the hair in two and start twisting using the rope twist technique. The tighter the twist the less chance the shed hair has to twist around potential loosened hair. When retwisting use oil on dry hair to take down and then apply moisture for each one. This will prevent breakage during the take down. Good luck!

I do this as well. I’m doing a challenge right now but was worried that I wouldn’t be able to get moisture into my twists with added hair. So I did regular twists and hunny, the FRIZZ and budding almost made me give up. Do you have any issues with moisture when adding hair in your rope twists?
@Dor_Dorty3 жыл бұрын
@@nikkifranklin2737 it always different when moisturizing with added hair .if you moisturise twice every week I think it will be more because the added hair can soak the moisture and secondly the way to moisturise it . What I do is in my spray bottle I have only water and oil I spray it in my hair I don't add leave in because I don't want that on my scalp but you can if you like it . This more simple than adding water to my hair and using butter or oil in my palm to seal extension not hair .

I wore twists exclusively from 2013-2015 and my hair grew so much. I used to love washing my hair in twists but unfortunately, when I would unravel the twists, I would see dandruff on the strands of hair even though my scalp would be cleansed.

You’re not alone!!! I think that’s the price you pay sometimes for washing in twists. I found the more frequently I wash the less this is an issue. Also if I’m proactive about using an anti dandruff product like sulfur 8 on my scalp immediately after wash day and routinely until my next wash day, then this doesn’t end up being an issue.

Thanks for your tips. I agree with you that sometimes too many twists at one time will make it harder to freshen up the style. I like to refresh my twists often (once or twice a week). I know that may be too often, but I like the fresh moisturized and neater look and I feel like if I leave them in more than a week without redoing them, I don't get the look that I want. Your hair looks very healthy and I noticed that you said you leave them in for 6 weeks. My goal is to get to where I am comfortable leaving them in for that long too.

Yea,I have to wash my hair and maintain my hair in twist. My hair tangles very easliy and it's course. But I do notice that when I leave my hair undone for too long the detangling process is longer. I also recognize that if Im not in the mood to do my hair,I dont do it until I am 100% wanting to do it.If Im not 100% I start to get impatient,then breakage occurs. I wash my hair every 2-3 months,but thats because my hair is covered under wigs all the time and also work is super busy. I want to take my time with my hair.

I wash in twists too! i see a lot of people say they braid at the roots... I've found that braiding the hair can put too much tension on my roots/edges so I choose to flat twist at the roots instead and wrap the ends around each other kind of like a Bantu knot on the ends. this way my roots are loose but fixed to avoid matting of my hair but also to keep the ends protected and to avoid tangles. i choose to stretch my hair with hair bands bantu knots tend to tug on my hair too much.

@@EfficientlyNaturalI start with a mild shampoo because of the buildup up from taking down braids. Next I put on a clay mask (bentonite and rhassoul clay mixed with green tea and ACV & some essentials oils) for about 20 to 30 mins. After a rinse, I follow up with an Ayurvedic mask prepped the night before (henna, amla and brahmi mixed with warm coffee - to fight Postpartum shedding - and some olive oil for slip) I leave that on for 4 hours and rinse it off with a conditioner to get all the herb flecks out of my hair. Next is a moisturizing deep conditioner (I mix in some olive oil, raw honey and aloe Vera gel) and sitting under my hood steamer for 20 minutes. In the meantime I’ll dispense my leave in conditioner into a glass bowl and set it in a larger bowl of hot water so that it absorbs into my strands easily, after my DC is rinsed out. Finally I seal my strands with hair grease because it gives me the best occlusion properties and I even grease my scalp lightly which keeps it supple and fungus free. I put my hair in flat twists and comfort my aching arms with complements on how well my hair feels and looks😂 p.s I only do this spa day once every six weeks. My weekly wash day is quick and simple - shampoo, DC, moisturize and seal.

I braid first then twist. Depending on how I feel I'll turn the braid into 3 strand twists. Mind you , the twists shrink more. So loosely twist. When wet. Because they tighten , if you have fine baby hair it will break if you twist tight . If you decide to put the hair in a twisted bun don't pull and twist to tight towards the ends , fine hair will break. And you will have thinning. I am learning and it happened to me and I'm trying to recover. Braids , plats work for me as well but time and age prevents my hands from functioning the same .

I found that is i am wearing smaller twist i can wash them if I braid and band the twist like you would with microlocs. After washing i let the twist air-dry overnight in the braided and banded state. Then I re-stretch the twist by braiding them more tightly and allowing them to stay in the braids for at-least a day. Also, when it comes to take down I will stretch the twist first before taking them down.

@@bleurose1502 I find that the twist hold up pretty good when you braid and band them during washes. The hair will be a bit frizzy. If you like the krinkled look it is cute. One thing I found really helpful when I twisted my hair two weeks ago was taking the time to make clean lateral sections. It was a pain, but the sections from the individual twists were really easy after that. It was almost no trouble at all to start from one side of a section and move to the other since it meant I already had three of the parts surrounding the twist done. I hadn't retwisted before I started my "wash day" yesterday--"wash day" because I just let water run over my scalp while I massaged it gently to try to loosen any buildup. I usually use shampoo, but my roots would tangle really terribly and I didn't feel like dealing with that. Can't say the water + massage were super effective for me, I may do an apple cider vinegar rinse next time. After, I deep conditioned and just applied a butter to the mids and ends (trying to cut down on products), then retwisted using the butter as well. Retwisting took quite a while, but a little less time than it usually does because all of my parts were still pretty clean. I'll definitely be taking the tip on letting my twists stretch and dry a bit before starting the process, it makes a lot of sense.
