Hibiscus is a very forgiving flowering bush. Plant it on ground and forget it. It will give enormous size flowers each year, just give enough water and must have lots of sun exposure.

My hibiscus is in the ground at my front door in Northwest Florida and is in flower now, but I would like more flowers. I do trim it at least once a year during the die back in winter which is in January and February! It comes back nicely in the next year. I add coffee grounds from Starbucks used grounds. I have 8-8-8 or 10-10-10 fertilizer, but am not getting any more flowers.

A tip for northern-climate gardeners who plant hibiscus in their gardens (in the ground) for the summer months: Do NOT remove the plant from the store-container before planting in your garden. Plant the hibiscus, pot and all, in the ground. Why? When you remove your hibiscus from the pot and replant it, it focuses 100% of its energy in repairing roots and new branch growth. It will STOP blooming for a few weeks, and perhaps a full month. The same is true if you buy palms for your summer garden (when you live in a cold region). Plant the pots, unless you live somewhere where the planting is meant to be permanent.

I received a hibiscus plant for Mother’s Day, and at first it was looking good. Then the leaves started turning yellow and dropping off. I pruned it back to see if it would start growing again. What happened to this plant? I have two huge hibiscus on our property, and I think this is a indoor hibiscus. 💕🌼💐🌷🌸🌻

Yellow leaves are a sign of over watering. Mine does it sometimes when we've had alot of rain. I just pick the yellow leaves off and wait a little before I water it again.
