Can Optoma's UHD30 stand in for a gaming monitor? Does 240hz refresh rate look good on a big screen? With HDR 10, 4k and a screen that can be as big as your wall, is it worth it to check out projectors again?

I love the subtle roast! Many KZfaqrs promise all kinds of wonders with ear buds like these, so this is really refreshing. I've got a pair of soundcore ear buds, not this model, and they are good for the price (40 bucks, I think) but that's all and you shouldn't expect any more fron them. They're clearly a choice of convenience over sound quality (which is pretty much the whole concept of this type of product anyway) but still sound good at that. I like using them when I'm going somewhere by bus or train and don't want to carry a bag to store my oe headphones in when I'm at my destination.

@Billy West It's still fucking stupid to say that. Yeah, it might seem obvious to you, but when dealing with expensive hardware, it'd be dumb not to just because "it seems obvious". It gets intimidating when money is on the line, and it's mean of you to call them stupid for looking up a tutorial. Besides, as history has proven, the people who want convenience far outnumber the people who care more about quality. Especially for something like gaming, a hobby that's supposed to be enjoyable. They are the market.
@thewitchcoven
@thewitchcoven 3 жыл бұрын
@Billy West You sound very pretentious and far too sure of assets you don't possess. Yeah man, people default to asking more knowledgeable people for help. That's how we as a species succeed. Confidence will get you killed more than it will help, and with an attitude like that, you might have a lot of trouble in your life. I don't see your problem with needing help. Sometimes, it's a good thing to ask people for things, especially when they seem really simple. Like, I make clothing for fun, and there's a suprising amount of things that I never could have realized on my own. I still don't see how the simplification of games is inherently a bad thing. There's a lot of unnecessary complexity to many things. Removing complexity that doesn't add depth is a wholly good thing. I hope you get help with whatever keeps you from depending on others.

The issues with the technology are more practical in nature (big and heavy, can't be manufactured to large sizes effectively, and the way they refresh can cause headaches for many people). TL;DR, the dude that spent $600 on his CRT has a better display than you in every metric other than resolution and HDR (and because of how CRTs present pixels, that's a fairly negligible compromise).
@headmd
@headmd 3 жыл бұрын
As someone experienced in projector installation, this video hurts. The reason Optoma sacrifices keystone adjustment for less input lag is because keystone adjustment should be avoided anyway, especially in a home theater setup. (Side fact: Cinema projectors actually don't provide any keystone adjustment because the whole movie industry would never allow it.) Keystone adjustment is a post-process done in the digital domain, which means you are significantly sacrificing the image resolution when using it. When installing projectors it's expected that the user installs it UPSIDE-DOWN in the ceiling, at the correct height for the height of the screen that is planned. Perhaps Optoma didn't provide enough instructions regarding this but I have a feeling it was rather the LTT guys not RTFM. Well, sucks to be Optoma i guess.

I've always mounted my projector at the height of the top of the screen. No keystone adjustment required, no risk of blocking the picture. But yeah, unless you want a screen bigger than 70", a TV is going to be better for most rooms (light control).
@skurasch
@skurasch 2 жыл бұрын
Bro everyone mounts their projector like that. I'm not a fan of this projector but nearly all of his criticisms come from pure ignorance of using projectors. You also lose significant quality with keystone adjustments and they are never meant to be used in a high end setup. Projectors have their weaknesses, like you mentioned, the necessary light control in the room. But none of the weaknesses are having the projector fans audible because it's right next to your head or not being able to sit in the center. You also can get a short throw projector if space is an issue; however, the reason most projectors are long throw is because the average person buying a projector is doing so because they want a bigger seating area that's not really compatible with the size of televisions.

Ideally you would setup your projector so that you don't need digital keystone adjustment at all. As soon as you turn on keystone you're losing pixels and compressing some parts of the image or stretching other parts. I can't imagine that you'd be able to see low latency with keystone any time soon. Keystone is a digital post processing, and removes pixels to make the adjustment. So you would have more latency and less resolution out of the thing. And I'm not surprised that you can get high refresh rates out of dlps considering how fast the dlp chips move. Laser projectors are the way of the future. No shifting as they heat up, and they turn on an off at the flick of a switch, plus a heck of a lot better color contrast. And a big protector and a screen is way less than an LED wall any day of the week.

I really loved my AAXA P7 mini projector. It is 1080p and only $370. Plus it is tiny at 5x5x3 inches though it is not short throw either. The input lag was fine over hdmi. The only problem that I had where I decided to return it is that the only screen size I could get to work at the available position was 60+ inches at an uncomfortable height. It was just way to big for a screen 2 feet away from where my I sit in my chair. The other drawback is that the focus wheel was way too stiff so I could never get text to appear without some blur. The screen is bright enough even in window lit rooms. Dark games are difficult to play due to the low contrast with blacks and near black colors. (it gets better in a dark room but still can have you running around blind in Diablo 3) It does this for dark movies too but they can still be very watchable. It might be worth it to do a review because while the te4chnology isn't there yet, it is getting very close.

Not a fan of earbuds but I just purchased SoundCore Life Q30's a few weeks ago and I'm loving them so far. The base isn't quite as strong as my HyperX Cloud 2's but are still pretty punchy (the Cloud 2's have 60mm drivers and the Q30's have 40mm drivers so this is to be expected). Battery life is amazing though, I've only charged them once so far and still have around 40% battery. Latency is pretty good though I've not tried to game with them yet. Active noise canceling is pretty decent, I don't have any other noise canceling headphones to compare against but it does a good enough job of drowning out my computer fans. Transparency mode is a bit weird, it seems to amplify higher frequencies so certain things are really loud but it is handy to be able to talk to someone real quick while still playing music in the background or if you're waiting for a timer to go off and want to make sure you hear it. Sound quality overall is pretty good, for those who call themselves audiophiles you may want to look elsewhere as if you are that picky then no pair of bluetooth headphones will ever satisfy you (you should also try to understand the psychological factors that determine what you consider to be good). That said I feel the sound is on par with my Cloud 2's and the freedom of wireless is really nice, I've refrained from going wireless in the past due to short battery life and the myriad problems of bluetooth audio but those don't seem to be an issue here.

That is a light projector. You can use a basic projector Mount and extension rods. Amazon has both and you could build one that lowers it enough. I've seen an auditorium that had one like 10 get down

UHD50X is the same projector for a couple hundred bucks more, and includes to additional lens adjustments. I have the UHD30, and love it. I don;t need Keystone since I have a perfect ceiling mount setup for it.

If you have to adjust for the keystone effect in a permanent setup, you're already doing it wrong imo. Its digital processing and it ends up really affecting clarity. I would rather just switch to another projector with a lower screen drop if that's a concern (neck craning can be a real problem).

I have a 4k projector for gaming, it’s pretty amazing. Takes a lot of fiddling to get the image perfect, on my screen text on desktop is super clear, the whole image is very sharp Hadn’t known keystone doesn’t work in gaming mode, fortunately for me it’s not an issue but it would have been nice to know beforehand lol Have a view sonic PX701

I used to work at a hotel/conference center, in the A/V department, and occasionally (on a slow weekend) would have a room with a 20-foot, rear-projection fast-fold screen. I would bring in my PS2, call in the Convention Services guys, and run a tournament with Rival Schools, or some other fighting game. Really nice when you have the proper mounting for the projector to prevent keystoning AND don't have to worry about blocking the projector. This was like 25 years ago, so it wasn't a really great picture, but it was still freakin' awesome.

I game with my ps4 on a random, medium high end ( I think I haven’t really looked into it, it was a gift) and it’s pretty great. I project onto a set of closet doors and I don’t have any complaints. It’s obviously not esports ready, but for basic console gaming, it works great.

Just got a used dell 1080p 3d projector, really can't recommend it enough, gaming on a 100" screen its just an experience. Before this one I had a 720p one, the difference in sharpness alone worth the switch. It was around 600usd FYI.

LTT: Let's "review" a projector Also LTT: But lets only turn off the lights for less than 20 seconds in the middle of the video, use the admittedly wrong projection surface, and then don't even show bright mode just because it doesn't work with HDR
