Excellent Ryan, I have now been approximately 50 years on 5 handicap and IMVHO, this is one the great lessons of the thousands that people can get lost in on KZfaq. You deal really well with the counter-intuitive, almost contradictory notion of (Not) trying to hang on to lag (we have all been down this road), while actually hanging on to the right 'wrist-set' and marrying this with rotation of arms and body...well I don't think you don't mention the body rotation, but you clearly demonstrate it over and over again throughout the video. I'm not sure how many 20 handicappers will fully get their heads around this, or realise just good the advice is and how much time it would save them if they just followed this advice, but i think lower handicap players who have already done the '10,000 hours' will immediately see how important this is. If I wasn't in Kenya, I would definitley be booking a lesson! Again, excellent, thanks

Another masterpiece Chris. For the first time I realize how soft and relax the right hand grip has to be in order to achieve the full upcocking of the wrist and form the 90 degrees between club and forearm. For the first time I am able to get the butt end pointing at the ball target line and this is a HUGE game changer for me. Once the clubhead is up the other 2 moves are so much easier to achieve . Thank you again 🙏🙏🙏

This is the one that actually transformed my golf swing, just as it said on the tin. Guys, take this comment with a pinch of salt. I watched other videos around the same time with similar perspectives on this principle, and I was at the right place in my game where I was ready to receive this. But this video was my ‘click’ moment on the range. Golf friends, take this, work it out, and don’t be afraid to increase your swing speed what feels like 2x or 3x… keep your sternum on the low point and just rip it. Wow. It makes all the difference when you feel like you are already going to get good contact, almost locked in. Then you can take your swing to bigger places. More speed, more width back and through. This has changed my golf.❤❤

I thought this was the best explanation of what the trail arm/hands are doing in a proper golf swing. The last "step", rotating the arms, you mentioned very briefly the arm rotation is from the shoulder...but that was it...nothing more. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the body rotation during the downswing effectively rotate the trail arm which needs to be coordinated with the actual rotation of the arm unit? How does one coordinate the degree of the body rotation and the arm rotation to match the correct swing direction? In the last rod drill you showed, there seems to be a lot of distance to over or under rotate either the body and/or the arm. True? Is it then a matter of timing the rotation by feel/instinct/athleticism?

I just watched Pete Cowen give a lesson to an instructor & this is exactly what he was stressing but also included rotating the forearm while holding the wrist angle back to cover the ball which seems would take perfect timing an not be easily repeatable other than for advanced players. What are your feelings about this? I guess it's basically throwing the trail arm? He said this is why Hogan said he'd like to have 3 right arms.

From his track record however PC gets results others don’t so why would he give it all away for free. 😀

Great video as always but I have to disagree with one thing you said at 5:00, "You've got to control the clubface." The golf club is a marvel of engineering which is why is hasn't changed it's basic design in 400 years - because it works. Every golf club, when swung properly, is self correcting and will close naturally through impact if allowed. Any attempt to "control" that will disrupt it and most likely either prevent it from happening completely or at the proper time. There's just no way to "control" the clubface when the club is moving at 80 to 100 mph. Sorry, but this idea of "controlling" the clubface is why so many people struggle with golf. They think the golf club is a mindless stick with a lump of metal on the end that they have to manipulate in order to make the ball go where they want. In reality the golf club is genius in it's engineering so much so that it's invisible to the average user. This is why a child can pick up a club and use it perfectly within 30 minutes, yet adults struggle for years and never get it right.
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 10 ай бұрын
Hey, appreciate your comments but we will have to disagree on this one then. The club face in my opinion is not self correcting and I do believe you have to learn to control it. There are some great studies out there from the likes of Jacob’s 3D and other experts who can measure just what ‘work’ the golfer has to do to the golf club, and it’s significant. It shows just what you the golfer have to do in order to move the club, it’s 100% down to the golfer and those studies also show what the club would do without the intervention of the golfer, and it would not return anywhere near square, but great discussion point

@@ChrisRyanGolfThat's interesting. I'm going to look into that. Do you have any links you could share? BTW, have you heard of the Rake effect? That's the force that closes the clubface. Hello Chris, now I am really confused. 10 days ago the exercise was no wrist (umbrella drill); today it is wrist movement all over the place What is correct?
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 10 ай бұрын
Hey Frank, appreciate that the message may seem confused, this video was detailing how the right arm and wrist should move in the golf swing, the various movements that it has and what they do in the golf swing. The previous umbrella drill was a fix for a golfer who gets the right arm too deep in the backswing with the right elbow moving too far behind the body, if you suffer from that fault then that is a great drill, but only if you struggle with that move. In that umbrella drill the movements in this video were still present, just a little less wrist set, but that was a drill and often a drill is to create the opposite move, or to create an extreme movement in order to change a poor movement. Hope that makes sense, essentially this video applies to everyone, the previous video would only really apply if you suffer from that exact fault. chris
