Imho this is one of the most important things you need to do, to become a better pool player. What is the top thing or tip that changed your game?

This is exactly what I’ve always thought to be the most important thing. Visualization > Feedback. That’s also one of the reasons it’s so important being 100% present when you’re playing (and sometimes really hard to do), because doing the visualization > feedback thing takes patience, wanting to be there and wanting to really pay attention to what’s happening. When you started and said it would be all about visualising, I thought it would be boring. However I think that is one of the best videos you have done. It made me realise that 90% of the time I just send the ball roughly to an area and probably explains why I often send the white into the pocket! I'm a working artist and visualization has always been an important component of my 'skills'. I also love pool and combining visualization on the shot selection seems like a good idea. During my practice session today, I visualized every shot. I'm a believer!...My shot making percentage definitely went up. Never to good to try new stuff. Great lesson...

@2:52 you may have not learned anything, but there is always much to learn from a missed shot, like what NOT to do to scratch.

I think playing straight pool really helped me with visualization and cue ball control. When I was playing mostly 8 and 9 ball I would try to put the cue ball in "zones" of the table. In straight pool your target for the cue ball is much smaller because you're breaking out clusters a lot, and not just blindly smashing them, you have to hit them correctly. So you're thinking things like "I need to clip the top side of the 6 ball". Obviously you miss the mark a lot, but you're visualizing a precise cue ball and your brain is storing all the memories of your successes and failures. So you just naturally get a little better with your cue ball as a result.

Hi Sharivari! I don't comment on KZfaq often. I struggle with cue ball speed control. I've seen numerous videos that talk about visualization. But the idea of learning after every shot made something click in my brain. I just shot one rack of 8ball and with using this concept not only did break and run, I had almost perfect position on every shot. I've had break and runs before but usually I have a shot or two that I leave myself tough. I feel info in this one video is solid gold! Thanks for making videos and teaching people! I appreciate it!

Yes !!! pin point accuracy, something we should try to achieve. Most players, myself included do this almost subconsciously but hardly do it consciously.

I love pool, I always did, to the point that I bought a great quality table and all the trimmings, had it installed by a professional, used a large part of the second floor of my home, acquired VHS tapes from three different pro players....my friends would come over, we would watch the tapes while playing and learned very, very little, just managed to make a few balls. I/we knew that the game was too difficult and it was meant for people with especial talents, we have got bored, stopped playing and at the end I gave the nine foot table away and was very happy to have my space back but never stopped liking the game.... Twenty years forward I found you, I called some of my friends who are still around and others.... We love you, you have excited us again into playing, we watch your teachings every day and have improved tremendously, now we enjoy playing and seeing our betterment. A huge thank you from all of us and more that are joining. Yes, I bought another table, one friend had one with a ton of stuff on it, now it's clean and being used again after many years. THAAAANK YOUUUU!!!!

I agree with you wholeheartedly about visualization. Especially about the part with the path of the Cue Ball after a contact.. I noticed that if I don't have a plan the cuball will just randomly go wherever it wants or scratch... But if I have a clear idea what to do what to do even pinpoint precision I noticed I have a better chance To do that rather than Not have a plan at all

I play a couple of hours per day at the senior center, 8 ball 9 ball and when no-one else is there I can practice.I agree visualization is so important and sometimes I forget, but your brain will guide you through and help you execute that shot if you allow it. Thank you for reminding me and I am working on position and understanding the cue ball. I appreciate all your videos because they are down to earth and easy to understand. Im going to put this in practice.

My dad is insanely good and always loved pool he went to Vegas from 98-2004 and then he fell off for a long time. Now that I’m playing he is getting back into leagues again and I’ve gone from knowing nothing to being pretty good in 6 months I got a long way to go but it’s natural to me for some reason. All’s it took was time on the table, and my dad showin me a thing or two haha can’t wait to get into legaues. (OH AND HOW COULD I FORGET YOUR VIDEOS ARE A HUGE HELP AS WELL😂😂😂)

So when breaking, this is helpful, because I can now imagine hitting the cue ball _just_ to the right or left, as opposed to straight, so I can align for the next shot. Thanks!

The greatest teacher of all time is failure. But it can only teach you if you're paying attention, and that's what visualization does. This is well-done applied learning theory stuff.

I went thru a phase of playing where I’d say be shooting the 8 and need to get on the 9, so I’d shoot the 8 and the cue ball would end up literally touching the 9….I was getting great position how I was thinking it but of course it’s wrong so started visualizing where I wanted the cue ball. The mind will do that put it where you want it.

One way to improve in pool is perfect your stroke so it is straight and clean. That's what I've done and can clear 80% of the balls in my shots and getting better.

just started following you. enjoy your instructions. I dont have the same felt. mine is a slower felt. not professional felt. I'm guessing i need to shoot the same as your instructions, but i dont get the same action on the cue as you do in your videos. should i be try to hit the object ball the same?

@ShariVari Would you ever consider doing a video with a compilation of different or various 'Recovery Shots' for when you get 'out of line' and using a recovery shot to get back in line?

I often find myself stuck between two diferent positional shots, whenever that happens I play bad position vecause I don't have a clear image of the shot I want. Next time I play I will focus even more on visualizing EXACTLY where I want the cue ball and how to get there. Let's see what tommorow brings.

Weird tip don’t move your head, you eyes and head should be locked in on ur shot even when your slowly going down. Notice his head position? Notice how Shari doesn’t move his head once he’s locked in. Now watch every pro. Their head is dead locked in with only their eyes moving once they are set. Once I’m down on a shot I look at my object ball then cue ball once I feel set I make sure my stroke level and boom. Just following this basic steps my accuracy shot through the roof

You also learned on the last shot that position from the 1 rail is hard and may want to leave yourself a 2 rail or other instead.

It’s kinda like quantum physics! You can change the outcomes just by observation

amazing the only shot he seems to be having trouble with is the only 1 i dont seem to have trouble wiht while playing..that shot always goes straight off teh bank i dont use spin on that shot..or any shots really as im not mastered at teh english so i use it as little as possible which can make soem shots tougher than a pro would..i use top middle and bottom and that spretty much it maybe a littel english here and there for short small shots but thats why im here to learn english better..the push of the cue ball when using english and such..makes the angle different than a straight on shot would..

New to pool. Thanknyou very much for the great instruction. One think i matriggling woth is moving the ball a good dostance forward after contact. If i try to really gove it a lot of top spin it will chase. But you make it look really effortless. If i hit my shot amooth like you seem to ot dosent go very far forward even if i hit at the top of the cue? Any tips?

I have a Question we bought new pool felt like 4 years ago and the pool balls they rolled a long time, now 4 years later they go 3 rails on a shot and slow down and stop! Do they get worn down over time? How do you keep the felt brand new so in 4 years they still roll forever 🤔

if you want to improve in this. you have to learn 2 things and not this feel system. first how the quecall travel after it hits the object ball and then diamond systems. there are several systems on the internet on both. not just pool. but 3 crushing/snooker. and ofc. always have a plan of the balls direction and where they stop.

I am 81 and haven’t played pool in about 40-45 years. I have recently had my table recovered and a couple of cushions replaced. Since then I have been trying to practice for 2-3 hours every day. I have problems making the shots you used in this video. I try to line up the shot but have a hard time hitting the object ball so that it is pocketed. I figure I have to make the shot before I worry about position because if you miss the shot all the position in the world doesn’t help. Am I off base with my thinking? How do you line the shots like in this video. Where do you hit the object ball? I enjoy your videos and am impressed with your skills.

Yeah, my position play is not precise. No wonder I hook myself constantly and scratch. This will take practice, but I might be able to rank up my game with this
