Dont start your car after it has been sitting for a long time, do this before you do start it.

Hello! I have a 2009 Audi A4 that has been sitting and not been started since April 2023. Apart from the battery, what should I expect to discover (potential oil leaks from dried seals?) I had a motor overhaul in April 2022 most parts including the cylinder head were replaced so the seals only have a couple thousand miles on them. Therefore what should I inspect and do before I attempt to crank it up? I left it with a full tank of gas, added some Stabil Fuel Stabilizer in April 2023.
@cruizinmax401721 күн бұрын
if it sat in a dry place then you should be just fine to crank but not start. U may have smoke every start up since the valve seals got pretty dry, but i wouldnt worry about that.

Was the oil pump piston faulty and stuck when the oil pressure wasn't building on your part 15 build
@cruizinmax40172 жыл бұрын
there is no oil pump piston, its a rotational pump but a fresh subaru engine not wanting to prime is a common issue, some say leave the oil filter empty so the pump will have an easier time to push the oil through but the safest way is to dismantle the oil pump and pack it with assembly lube or even petroleum based vaseline.

The motor turns over slower when not firing up and oil pressure will take longer to build. If you just start it oil warning light will go out in 2 seconds max usually . The prolonged cranking may not help the situation .Either way its going to be dry for a bit. Take your plugs out and poor some some light oil like sewing machine oil down the bores and turn it over , that will at least give the cylinders some protection and it wont start either . The big end and journals down below are a problem though I admit. An electric oil pump would be good, but usually don't have.Drain all oil and poor it back down may do it to
@cruizinmax401710 ай бұрын
Then why do you just crank newly build engines for example to build up oil pressure?
@tuberworksjones10 ай бұрын
@cruizinmax4017 I don't know, but I seen a video once where during a rebuild they put some oil around critical components during assembly. But I have to admit that turning it by hand with the plugs out is a good way of getting som oil to swish around ,or the cold crank like you say

@@cruizinmax4017the idea with an engine that's not fresh built is the piston rings are possibly stuck to cylinder walls or will have more friction than a freshly put together engine with installation lube and pre oiled cylinders
@GH-oi2jf2 жыл бұрын
Good idea! There ought to be a device to pump a little oil before the engine is started, without having to pull a fuse.
@joehealey9173Ай бұрын
Use a engine pre-lube tank. holds 4 quarts of oil you can inject into the engine through the oil pressure sensor. Rotate engine by hand while the tank injects in new oil. Fully pre-lubes all oil circuits

Do I have to remove spark plugs and put oil in the cylinders on a car that has sit for 10 years befor I start it? If not I plan on doing your fuse disconnect? What would you do?
@cruizinmax4017 Жыл бұрын
I would put a scope through the sparkplug holes and inspect the cylinder walls, if you cant do that then gently turn the engine and try to feel for any obstruction with the plugs out, rust might be present, if motor is stock or you do feel something then put ATF inside and wait couple of days, then turn and feel for it again, if all good then crank with sparkplugs still out to clear the cylinders, its going to be a mess....then start...expect a lot of smoke.

My car Toyota Yaris 2022 model was parked since 15 months. How I can star it. What precautionary action i need to take before start.
@cruizinmax40174 ай бұрын
check oil before starting, pull an ignition fuse or fuel pump fuse or relay, or you can just disconnect the coils on top of the engine so spark plugs dont fire, crank until red oil light turns off, about 10 seconds should do it.

2018 wrx fa20 dit stg 2 tgv deletes no cats, inlet, intake charge pipes. car has been parked in my garage almost 2 years at 55k miles had new oil at parking time castrol extended gold bottle. how can i start it without damage? i thought about draining and refilling, or adding a top quart before spinning
@cruizinmax4017 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response. I would unplug the crank sensor and pull a fuel pump fuse then just crank like I did in the video. Killing fuel means no fuel will go down cylinders while cranking. Unburned fuel washes down oil from cylinder walls. Warm up the car for 10 mins or so, then change oil.

i was an idiot, decided to prime the starter a few times to turn it over a few turns, i have not yet found my issue, it dies when i come to a stop, the left side of the motor injector is way louder than the others, it pulls timing then kicks in , then kicks a extreme lean fuel trim code, put 1 full b-12 chem cleaner in the fuel, and .5 seafoam in the crank case, maybe it will clean the injector idk wtf to do@@alwresendiz3826

Just start it. All these theories that people spew around about the first start being such a huge deal is mostly BS. What's worse is that many of the suggestions given are more damaging than just starting it. If you really want to go the distance in doing it the best way possible; pull the spark plugs, coat the cylinders with oil, and crank it 'till you have oil pressure. Then put the plugs in and start it. Coating the cylinders means wetting the entire circumference of the cylinders, not just squirting a little oil in. Since your cylinders are horizontal you'll have to use something to get oil to the upper side of the cylinders. With my 911, which has the same style of cylinder layout, I used an air blow gun with a long tube that had a slight bend at the tip. I put oil into the tube, put that in the plug holes with the bend facing upward, and blasted the oil into the cylinders. Mine was an extreme case, it had been parked for about 10 years, the oil had been drained, and several parts were removed which drained even more oil than normal so I felt the need to pre-lube it. It took a very long time cranking to make oil pressure since everything was empty, yours won't be as bad. Oil doesn't go bad from sitting, but if you feel the need to change it, do it after you've run it.

my car haven't started in over a year a 3 months due to horrible situation i been going through in life and due to the pandemic do you recommend an oil change before i even start the car ? and should i add gas to the car since it hardly has any

add gas before start, warm up the engine for about 15min and then change the oil but make sure the oil level is good.

Can you please make a quick video showing how to do this on a Toyota or Honda. Also I like to know lubricating cylinder/piston before cold start Thank you
@cruizinmax40172 жыл бұрын
It should be easy on any vehicle, just find the fuel pump relay or fuse under the hood or inside under your dash, you can also look for the ignition fuse, pull any of those fuses or relays. Its better to kill the fuel pump so no fuel gets dumped into the cylinders while cranking. Cant really lubricate cylinder walls or pistons from the top on a fuel injected car before start, you could but its more work and unnecessary. It was easily done on carbureted engines back in the day, you would just dump a mix of gas and oil down the carburetor but if you kill that fuel pump and give a crank until your oil light goes off you should be good.
@jamesh69222 жыл бұрын
@@cruizinmax4017 I think it's better for the fuel to be injected into the well since the gas can also serve as lubricants. so the better option is to pull the ignition power switch fuse

disconnect the crank sensor underneath alternator or an ignition fuse or fuel pump fuse or relay, then crank until your red oil light turns off.
