Try this metering technique for street photography.
If you’ve never tried spot metering before give it a try, hopefully this video will help you get started, it’s a great tool for high contrast street photography.

Thanks for the auto exposure lock tip, in film days tilting the camera was how I used to check exposure and I've carried on with that habit, holding the button down to lock has been an annoyance, now no longer! Thanks..

Compensation dial has no effect in manual mode on any camera. You need to use a combination of aperture shutter speed & iso in manual mode. Use exposure comp when shooting in aperture or shutter priority. Glad you like the channel.

Congrats for this video! What about if I'm in full manual mode (I control ISO, shutter speed and aperture)? I guess it doesn't matter which light metering mode you choose (spot, evaluative etc...). Am I right? I've done some tests, and the metering mode makes no difference when I'm in full manual.

If you’re in full manual mode then you control the exposure not the camera, so yes you are correct in saying it doesn’t matter what metering mode you are using. Many thanks

Brilliant tip. I will try it. One question, your Instagram is great, but I am having problems with my photos being cropped by Instagram. How do you make sure you load the original image. Even when I tell Insta to use the 'original' it always seems to be slightly cropped. Thanks so much
