I reckon this is GOLD. I never considered the pillow between the legs (or the lack of).. I suspect this could improve the lower back pain I normally get when camping. Thanks!!

Very useful tips, thanks for sharing. I will start using the cloths bag idea covered in a tshirt. I've been through dozens of air pillows and can't seem to find a good one.

Great video, sleeping has been my big downfall the last few years as well. I always wake up incredibly sore. Therma rest was my first purchase, but an extra pillow between my legs may be my next step. Been appreciating your videos lately, keep up the great work!

I sleep just like you. On my side, with an inflatable pillow between my legs. I used to roll off my pad often. Finding flat ground is essential and if not flat, sleep with your head on the elevated side. Using the clothes bag works great too. Empty Gatorade bottle for the pee! 😆

I got the Hilleberg Bivanorak last winter, and going for a pee in the night never was easier. Just unsinge the bottom, lift up the bivanorak and quilt, and im ready to walk a few meters away to take a pee - without leaving my nice warm shelter. Crawling out of a tent door, in a tshirt on a cold night is not very tempting, but with the Bivanorak it is even less of an issue than at home (as i dont have to walk all the way to the toilet)! Another benefit of this shelter is to be able to set up camp right on the trail, so i dont have to search for an open area. And waking up seeing nature all around, instead of some tent walls, made me think this shelter was very enjoyable to use, and not just some ultralight/minimalist sadomassochist dream, lol! Also doesnt hurt that it takes up almost no space in the backpack. Regular bivys seem very "claustrophobic" and limiting, but with this one i can sit up and look around and cook food or whatever i want to do. Tried a headnet to deal with bugs recently, and it worked really good! Only issue i had that night was that it was really warm, so i started to sweat, which created some condensation during the night. Dont think it will be much of a problem with a quilt suited for the temperatures, but i need more testing to be sure.

Great video. I've just stumbled across this after trying for a good while to find a pad that allows me a comfortable sleep. I have lower back issues and same as you, I just can't seem to get comfortable lying on my back, as it feels like the pressure on the pad creates a high arch into my lower back. I'm just waiting on delivery of the Big Agnes Rapide SL wide long version, so I will try it out in my apartment before taking it on trail. I will also be trying out the side-sleeping tips of the pillow between the knees! I have tried placing one under my trunk side, but it is difficult with a thinner pad also with bottoming out! Fingers crossed the Rapide SL and these tips will give me the comfy night sleep I've been craving!

All good tips, I pretty much align with your experiences too! For me, next to the sleeping pad, the ear plugs are SO important! I am an exceedingly light sleeper, and I hear everything. Good earplugs (I use the orange foam version, 30db reduction) make a huge difference. Lastly, for guys especially, I say a bottle to pee in is also fantastic to have in your tent! Instead of getting up in the dark, or the hard rain, possibly letting dozens of black flies or mosquitoes into your tent, using the bottle is fast and hastle free. I use and old, specially coloured nalgene bottle. I've heard some women do the same with large ziplock freezer bags. Regardless of what you use, doing this is fast & you get back to sleep quicker than a night hike out of your tent!

Totally, a friend of mine brings an old tide laundry detergent bottle so he doesn't get the nalgene mixed up by accident and take a sip.
