DO THIS: Level Up Your Art ✦ How To Draw From Reference ✦

Hello!
This video is all about finding and using references. I will show you how I manage and work with them in my current workflow. I am using imagery I find on Pinterest and Social Media. I am not the owner of these resources, they belong to their respective authors.
Also, this is my personal way of working with references and doesn’t claim to be complete. That’s why I wont go too much into the definition of reference and if it’s good or bad (short: it isn’t bad at all).
I hope showing you my personal process and method is helpful!
Anyway, please let me know what you think and if you have any questions.
I really appreciate your feedback and input.

OMG I love it 😭😭❤❤I'm an intermediate-advanced artist right now, and I have watched and learnt from almost every video or course online, still this video is a masterpiece. I adore it, seriously. Whenever I see really godlike drawings, I don't know why, but I tend to think the artist did it all from their head. And I'm like, "this mf... how is my art so bad?" But then I'm reminded they almost always use references for literally everything, and it's like "oh... maybe I should start doing that 😅"

Ah thank you! Actually I have many ways of drawing this tattoo. I look for an oily stock image, make it black and white and draw on top of it to define the shape. Or I do it like shown in the video. Sometimes I use a specific brush haha thanks for your comment :)

The only things I can imagine when I feel inspired are the vibe and themes and maybe the overall shape I want my drawings to have. No pose or anything so I have a hard time with finding the references(plus I’m picky). So this video is perfect. Isolating parts of the body is genius!
@hagnak
@hagnak 10 ай бұрын
This whole video made me rethink the way I use reference, I usually only get some general reference (usually the pose), and try to figure other elements of the drawing relying too much on my own visual library, which is probably why so many of my drawings can feel samy. Thank you so much for this!

this is why art is beautiful. the amount of thought and effort put into one piece is incredible. Not just art, human in general is so cool, the artist and the referenced artists. My hate for Ai is not because "its stealing our style and job" (which yes they are true) but its because there is no beauty in it, its not awe making. It doesn't make me say its incredible. Thanks for the lesson Kuro.

This is gonna be incredibly helpful for a lot of people, thanks so much for the video! It’s very thorough and the examples are easy to understand even through just watching how you apply the techniques on your oc. I’ve been using references for many years now, but I can already see myself coming back to this video to implement these methods- it feels like I’ll be less overwhelmed n’ more comfortable with juggling multiple reference images due to considering these techniques. Thanks! Unrelated but when I clicked on the vid I hadn’t realized I’d seen your art before, so that was a really nice surprise :> I really like your work! It’s stunning & very memorable. The few times I’d seen it before were very fleeting and quite a while ago, but I instantly recognized one of the pieces you showed of your oc, which surprised me cause my memory kinda sucks. Definitely gonna look into other art of yours! Best wishes to ya.
