Do THIS to NEVER experience beat block

I don’t experience beat block anymore. So this is what I do to keep generating ideas and staying in the flow. Those are the things I wish I knew before. For most of the time I was unaware of how generating ideas works and was doing things blindly. I still was getting the results, but didn't really know where they are coming from.

Another tip I've heard of is to make a space , a room right for producing. That's not about the sound proof stuff etc. It's about making your producing space aesthetically pleasing for you. This way you will create a satisfying experience for urself. Hardware stuff also can keep the ideas flowing, eg using a hardware synth or a midi keyboard

I'd like to sincerely thank you for making this video. I've always struggled with feeling like a creative type but after watching this I've reached an epiphany - music production is just as much discovery as it is creativity. If I view it as experimentation and discovery, I will avoid falling into the perfectionism trap I so often find myself in. I really hope you see my comment because I want you to know how much I appreciate you! I have been watching your vids for a long time and I swear they have been getting better every time. Several of your latest videos have made it on to my "Favorites" playlist and that is no easy task. Out of the 10+ yrs I've been on KZfaq, only a few dozen have made it onto this list.

This is an amazing video, It helped me a lot to reconsider what to do on production. I've been feeling a little discouraged about making music due to those expectations and thinking that if I can't make a pro sound or track then it's a waste of time. I really don't like feeling that way but you gave a key to get out of that crappy zone. Thank you so much, you're one of the best content creators

These tips are excellent, and the conceptual tips work great for any creative medium, not just music producing. One that note, one of the best tips for any creative is, after a few hours of working on something, if you're stuck, put it down, walk away from it for a few hours, and subject yourself to completely unrelated stimulus. That can often birth new ideas or help spark something new to try to get past the point where you're stuck. You mentioned something similar - i.e. changing your workspace (which is a great idea!) - but sometimes people get stick mid-project and can't simply change work venues.

Thank you so much for making this video! This has honestly helped me a lot with reevaluating my mindset when it comes to music production. For me, I have a pretty slow process when it comes to making ideas sometimes. I’ve set such high expectations for myself that it’s hard for me to even continue song ideas. I forget to just experiment and see what vibes can happen. I’m definitely going to give these tips a go!

Starting is not a problem here, often finishing tracks is, same for focusing on what works versus getting rid of the lesser ideas in tracks (which to a large extend is subjective). Sometimes trying out a new plugin on an old 8 bar loop idea with potential can branch out a few extra minutes and potentially spark a new track. Also, with the cheap storage nowadays, you can easily store different variations of the same track, create variation in productions (VIPs :)), replace/add effects & re-arrange. Being an old head that started on floppy disks, the memory limit is still baked in my brain and it is something I have to remind myself :) .

thanks for sharing. Myself and im sure so many people suffer from the high expectation of their music. If you really watch people live streaming or "pro" producers start a track from scratch, you can see that what they made is actually kinda bad yet they somehow are able to turn that into a banger. Thats the skill of a good producer imo so its more important to focus on your process of improvement (via high quantity and continuous learning) than it is to actually aim to make bangers from the get, Anyways, thanks for a great vid again! - MA✨

I have this technique for beat-matching your favourite reference track with Ableton: play your desired reference track in Traktor Pro 3 (not sure if other version support Ableton Link which is a must-have for this), where Traktor is already configured to sync with Ableton via Ableton Link - that will produce very close results you need in terms of beat-matching - and then you can record the result (outgoing sound from Traktor) in Ableton audio track at desired BPM (because both ends are almost perfectly synced), using either loopback of your audio interface or you can re-configure Traktor to use Cable-VB virtual audio or some other solution that will route your Traktor's out to Ableton's in. Easy-peasy.

One thing that I find sparks creativity is setting limits for yourself. A couple that I commonly use are only use stock plugins in the daw or limit myself to making all sounds from scratch in one synth. Also living a healthy lifestyle keeps your mind healthy and fresh to be more creative.

Really helpful, I'd also add that staying active in life really helps with not having beat block anymore ! The COVID containment really fueled some ideas at first but then after some time it just killed my inspiration I couldn't produce a single thing then things opened I started going out, working and I haven't had a beat block for months !! Recording my toplines and ideas with my phone when it pops into my mind really helped a lot starting things once I get back home too :)
