For the bee question, Nectar sustains the adult bees and other pollinators. However, nectar alone is straight up sugar, and not healthy enough to feed developing bees. Pollen though is almost entirely protein and other nutrients. Some bee species actually specialize on specific plants because their brood won't develop properly on anything else. There are bees that specialize on Sunflowers, Melon/Squash, and Mallow/Rose of Sharon; and sometimes you'll find the males of these spending the night in these flowers. Sometimes they're not as limited in their diet though; where I live in New Jersey we have the Blueberry Bee which looks just like a really small bumblebee and I'm always finding them working our crabapple in the spring. There's a little lawn weed called Spring Beauty which has a bee that specializes on it too. The life cycle of most of these specialist bees though is tied to the bloom phase of when their main plants flower. They might spend 11 months developing underground and you'll only see the adults for 4 to 6 weeks of the year when the host plant is in flower.

I found a video online about 'organic' staining using a stainless steel pad and vinegar. I applied it on fresh pine beds I made last year because they were too new looking. I didn't want the harsh chemicals of regular stain near my food though. I tried it and they are so dark and beautiful! I highly recommend it for anyone wanting stained beds!

Best tomato I have grown and tasted is by far Black Krim. If you haven’t tried this variety yet, I highly recommend it. Had heard those high in anthocyanin give a smokey flavor so decided to give it a try. First thing I made to taste taste it was a BLT one wheat toast. I was in love. Have since bought other variety types that have the green/brown shoulders and purple varieties but nothing thus far compares to Black Krim. As for seed viability, something I am going to try today/tomorrow was an idea from Luke at MIgardener. He suggested buying condiment containers (50 at Walmart for $2.97 I think). Place small moistened piece of paper towel in each with several seeds. Those that sprout are viable and can then plant them into soil. Hoping it is going to be a huge game changer for me especially with planting different varieties and your favorite only having had 1 seed sprout. Can’t wait. Ordered seeds yesterday for this year. Happy gardening!

I had to laugh about the faded wood. I'm with you Laura! I love the faded grey but that is the desired 'look' here in Coastal New England, for sure. When we get new shakes on homes and outbuildings if we don't want to wait for the fade (though I do as I prefer the natural fade) there are TONS of grey stain shades available around here as people stain their wood to LOOK faded straight away! So, I'm with you. I also think it's a bit more English Garden to have it faded, but I'm on the more romantic antique garden look side myself, but differing opinions make the world unique and fun, eh?

A possible solution to your sun porch door dilemma: A pocket door. You can do a single slide, i.e. have it slide to the right when going from the living room to the sun room. You can have a "French door" slide in which the door is split in the center and each side tucks into its appropriate wall. The number of window panes is up to you. An accordion door could also be a consideration. The possibilities are endless! Also: I wanna create a Drinking Game for your vids... Everytime Russell [or Cheddar] photobomb us, drink a beer/glassofwine/cocktail. Of course, after binge watching a few vids with Russell-The-Ham we'd all be pretty polluted! :)

@@Bamboo4U2 I don't. I find him annoying. I don't dispute his expertise, but I can't get past his style, so I gave up on watching something by him after 5 minutes. I think it was something about French gardens.

Love, love, love your videos! I live in a quirky 1982 condo with practically no planting space and lots of shade in the back. Most of what I do is containers but thoroughly enjoy all your projects. I know you grew up around the garden center but your knowledge bank is amazing! Did you major in something in college that prepared you for such fabulous growing success?

Ok loved the idea about the spread sheet ( although I do everything paper/ pencil) and WHERE to plant the flowers from seed or from starter plants - cause I buy flats and lose several of them trying to make up my mind Where to put them-when I finish watching this video- time for paper and pencil!! Thanks again for all your videos - I’ve learned a ton in the past year and 1/2 following you and Aaron-

Hi Beka J. I notice during the holiday season Hobby Lobby sold the large sugar pine cones on line. I do know if they were sold in store. I think they were less than $3 each.

The corn thing is because each corn kernel is actually a seed, which is technically the next generation. Each kernel has different genetics so when the ear is pollinated with a different pollen that is what the seeds grow into. This applies to other veggies like peas too. With fruit like pumpkins, each seed is genetically different but the outer fruit is produced by the mother plant and will not be affected by other pollen.

My gem corn and blue popping corn crossed with my sweet. I did get some off the ornamentals, but overall, a corn fail. Good learning experience though.

A thought on turning the window to a door in your sunroom what if you do some pocket doors, my old house had this lovely pocket door that had the French door panes that way you wouldn't have to worry about the space

I would worry about poisoning the food if the Beds were stained. Just like you should not use Chemical Treated wood to build Raised beds for food gardening. On another Note, I just placed a Huge Flower order with Proven Winners 🥰. I love visiting Garden Centers but I don't have time to spend there, so I placed an Order to come straight to me. Also got to order some that are hard to find in my area and are too expensive to buy here. Ready for Spring🥰🥰🥰
