I owned the 18-135mm for years. It served me very well but the image quality was sometimes a little lacking. It worked perfectly in cities and towns but I never really liked how it handled foliage and more specifically, the light coming from between leaves/trees etc. Nowadays I want to spend more time in nature than in urban environments so I sold the 18-135 and now have the 16-55 f/2.8 and the 70-300mm. The 250-300mm range is a little softer than the rest of the range, but my word is it an improvement! It's a stunning lens. I've never used the 55-200 so bear that one in mind, and the cheap 50-230 is what it is, cheap. I own too much Fuji gear and I continue to bounce from over-geared to missing something. Hopefully one day I find that balance in between.... Here I am shooting film nowadays too... Oh GAS.

Haha cheers for sharing Edward. I think most people are the same way, always wanting something else lol The 16-55mm is certainly the safe option when it comes to quality, so I may end up going for it yet who knows. I really don't need anything above 200 at all so that narrows things down a bit too. I think I will just have to try a few lenses out and see what works best.

@@MacnTeensVisuals I think they were referring to the "wobbling" issue. That only happens when zooming in and out. I don't zoom in and out while recording so it's not an issue for me. Overall, I think the lens is pretty underrated.

My suggestion would be to keep the lenses you have and buy the XC50-230 ii AND the XF 70-300. I have both of these lenses and (for very different reasons) can recommend them. XC is super lightweight, super cheap and the images can be super too. Gear snobs turn their noses up at XC lenses, but they're capable of producing fabulous images in the right hands. XF 70-300 is on the compatibility list for lenses which work well with the newer higher resolution sensors, so you're covered for future upgrades. The image quality is superb and it has a good close focus ability. And the 1.4x teleconverter works with it. If you want fast, sharp, have deep pockets and don't mind lugging heavy weights around, the (red badge) XF 50-140 is worth a look. Also works with teleconverter. Too heavy, too expensive and not enough reach for me though. Looking forward to seeing what you choose.

Cheers for the suggestions. I am actually intrigued with the XC lenses I would like to try a few of them out and see what the actual difference is in quality. A few people have mentioned the 70-300 so I trust it's a pretty great lens. I don't think I would really get the use out it on the long end though but it's nice to know it's another great option. It's gonna be a difficult choice that's for sure haha

The 70-300mm is super solid imo. It’s got good reach, is sharp enough, has fast AF, it’s under 600g, can magnify a lot, has weather resistance. It’s the lens I would choose to keep if for some reason I had to get rid of all but one lens.

Fuji long zoom lenses are all a bit meh. I used to have the 55-200 but always found the results disappointing. I now own the 70-300 which is a good lens and the option to use teleconverters is nice. If you can do without the zoom but just want a bit more reach the Viltrox 75 1.2 is utterly epic and the Fuji 90 is gorgeous

The only thing I don't like about my Fuji setup is that my sweet-spot for street photography should be my excellent 16-55mm (despite it being heavy-ish) ... HOWEVER its f2.8 on a crop sensor is sometimes not enough. There are equivalents on full frame street cameras which, although a bit heavier, could be like having the same set-up along with better low light performance and 50% better subject separation. And I reckon that'd be my true sweet-spot. Having said that, anything much heavier than my X-T5 and 16-55mm combo would push the limits of comfortable handheld carrying, so maybe Fuji has it right.
@CianMcsweeney
@CianMcsweeney 10 ай бұрын
Personally don't think a zoom will ever be suited to street imo, a 18mm prime for tighter cities and a 33/35 for more spacious ones is all you really need
@mikefoster6018
@mikefoster6018 10 ай бұрын
@@CianMcsweeney I'm trying to wean myself more onto my 33mm f1.4, as it's relatively light. I know I'm more of a 33mm person than an 18mm one (having tried out various focal distances a lot with my 16-55mm). The 33mm results feel more natural and minimalist, but I think the 33mm can also make you strain a bit for shots because it lacks the natural dynamism of 18mm and (like you say) it's quite tight in congested city areas etc. One day I will change to somewhere between 18mm and 33mm if I keep straining. Quite often, I do wish I had my 16-55mm when I'm not carrying it, though. For example, yesterday I was in London and there was a brilliant acrobat show with kids taking part. But I could not get a decent angle/distance because of how the crowd was organised, preventing me from being able to go further forward or backward. My 16-55 would have been perfect. An 18mm would have been a bit too wide. My 33mm (which I was carrying) was a tiny bit too close. I'm slight stunned when people recommend even longer focal lengths for town. My 56mm prime is a real strain. I even saw someone recommending the 70-300mm for street photography. Not sure what he's photographing - earrings, moustaches or something!

Nice content. I’m looking to buy my first Fuji and can’t decide between a new xt30ii or a secondhand xt4. I’m from a stills background but looking to dabble in video. In your opinion is the xt30ii a good ‘starter’ camera for solid stills but a good intro into video? Thank you for any feedback
@MacnTeensVisuals
@MacnTeensVisuals 7 ай бұрын
Hey Daniel! Yes the X-T30 or XT30 II are great for both photo & video. I certainly wouldn't consider them starter cameras even if they technically fall in to that category. The video quality you can get from the fuji cameras is amazing. The main benefit with the X-T4 is IBIS which you may or may not need depending on the type of video you want to shoot. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions 👍

Fujilm xf 150-600 looool. I use it for nature photography but just had to make the joke. I have a more random question for you…do you know of any differences from the xs10 vs your xt30 in terms of video quality? IS there any difference? Your videos are amazing and haven’t seen an xs10 video come out as eye pleasing as yours. I bought the xs10 and I’m now wondering am I missing a video specification the xt30 has over the xs10 or do you just simply get better shots and color correct better than any xs10 video I’ve seen so far? Yes I know IBIS is in the xs10 but just in terms of video quality anything different?
@MacnTeensVisuals
@MacnTeensVisuals 9 ай бұрын
Now that is a beast haha To be honest I don't believe there is much difference at all with the video. The auto focus may have been upgraded slightly but I am not 100% on that. The XT30 auto focus is great so you wouldn't really notice it anyway I don't think. If you watch a few of our previous videos talking about filmmaking with the X-T30 you can see the settings we adjusted in camera when using the Astia Soft film simulation. It looks great straight out of camera and then I just make some subtle colour grading adjustments in post.

I would say that the 100-400mm Fujinon lens is a great choice.....yes, it is big and yes it is heavy (1.6kg) but the results from it are just soooo good. And even if you think that you do not need the 400mm end of the lens, it lets you use the lens well within its extremes (= top quality). Great zoom range as well so it covers a lot of my needs in a single lens and works well with my X-T30. Jerry

I use the 16-80 with my X-T30 and it's a brilliant lens given it's "just" a Zoom. However, it feels quite big on the X-T30's body, so I'm considering using my primes (23 & 56) for normal focal ranges and getting a 70-300 only for the telephoto stuff.

@@flinzl Haha I hear you on that. Cheers for your thoughts. That does make sense to be fair, I am just the type of person that really doesn't want to be changing lenses much at all tbh. There's the XF 16-80mm. Great range, allegedly good IQ, but (also allegedly) not so good for video work, unlike the 18-55. I do have the old XF 18-135mm, amazing range and IS, quite responsive for video shooting despite it's age, but nothing to write home about in regards to IQ. Really usable only under the good sunlight due to not so great max. aperture. And there's the XF 16-55/2,8. Yes, big and heavy it is. I'd suggest try a used one for a fair price. But not from me since my copy is going nowhere 😉

Hey Matthew ✌ We always use a cinesoft filter and depending on the conditions sometimes a polarisor or a variable ND. The cinesoft just gives the video a nice soft glowy look which I like. The polarisor works great for giving the colors a bit more richness but if it's a bright day we use the variable ND instead so we can continue using the correct shutter speed for video 👍 We have a few videos explaining things a little better so hopefully they help you out.
