Hey Everyone in today's episode we talk about pulley efficiency. Is it a 2:1 or a 3:1 or is it something completely different. I hope this one clears things up for you if not ask away down below. If you want to see some more episodes on this let me know and Ill put together what I personally use for a quick haul. Thanks for the support, keeps me hyped!

It´s been an eye opener for me, really good that you are able to measure forces with the LS3 so we can see the real force needed instead of relying on formulas in a page

Great to see you creating a niche and not just repeating what others do now you’re one of the cool kids with a line scale 😊 Really enjoyed this one and the one you did the fall testing. “Oh my nuts” would make a great tee 😂😂

Thank you, for the education! Tried a simular thing with one of my sons (half my weight) half a year ago, the pulleys soked up the weight difference like a champ!

You were definitely getting mechanical advantage in the final example with the '3:1'. The GriGri was previously causing so much friction that you have to put ~300# on the scale to lift the 100#, but with the z-drag it only took ~130#. This would seem to me to be about 2.3:1, which is useful enough. Even if all you're doing is recovering the efficiency losses from friction so that you can actually achieve a true 1:1, that's worth something.

That right but now we also have to think about how many reps because it’s 3x the amount of rope.

If you look back to the start it’s more efficient to just go back to no mechanical advantage and just run it through a pulley. I’ll break this all down in the next episode. 🤙🏻

Be good to see a pulley system in use, thanks

Seems like the issue of inefficiency isn't the 3:1 pulley configuration but the Grigri inefficiencies, supper useful to know that the grigri adds that much friction.

Very neat to see how fast the extra junk in the system starts working against you. 3:1s are still dope though. Just gotta watch out, "when all you have is a hammer..."

I watched something similar on rope access channel... But your technique is much more interesting...

Would have been good to see a working 3:1 with all pulleys, but still an interesting video. I would have expected that last example to be helpful.

I'd like to see what would happen if you replaced the Grigri with an ATC. Nice video, I really enjoy your content. 👍

Would a lot of efficiency not be lost through the elasticity of the rope?

when I make 3to1 pully system, I make sure that I Do not add that redirect carabiner, because it make it so harder, I wonder if you remove that carabiner how much force is need to pull that body up

line scales work better when you use soft shackles instead of hardware. the measurements can be off when connecting to the LS3 with hardware

Bigger is better. Use a pulley with a larger diameter sheave. It's more efficient and better for the rope.

The "3:1" with carabiner creates some hardcore Z. I don't think anyone would like to climb up with that rope drag!

That is great but I couldn’t help but notice that the system you where using used caribeners instead of pulleys possibly the drag would be closer to the theoretical advantage if you used a more efficient way of redirecting the rope on each bend

Isn't that a 4:1?
@BetaClimbers
@BetaClimbers Жыл бұрын
A trick is to count the strands on the moving pulley. So it’s a 3:1, if the beam was some how being pulled and not the load then it’s a 4:1. But obviously it’s theoretical, you will be pulling 3 times the amount of rope but you won’t be getting a 3:1 trade off.
