To clarify, this is not your average motivational speech where i tell you everyone cares and your entire audience will support you regardless of what you do, because no one can guarantee that, but you're a big enough personality to the point you can talk about your thoughts on life and reflect on how you see the world; as a content creator you're skilled at articulating ideas, making them entertaining. This is something it took me a long while to get, but it's so true. It's a bittersweet thing, because on one side yeah the good moments will pass but on the bright side the bad ones will too. This lead me to not "hunger" for good moments, I appreciate them while they last but I don't desperately earn for them when they're gone which actually helps me endure the bad moments more, knowing they will pass and good stuff will come again. Sounds obvious saying out loud, but it's a hard mindset to get into.

Some people out there never find a path, they just live their lives grinding or surviving hardships, and this applies regardless of your social status: the human mind is not a forgiving tool. If you're asking yourself this, it means you've already chosen a path and you might be comparing it to others, wondering what could've been, but you should give yourself credit for accomplishing the very hard task of even finding a place: finding a way of living you're comfortable with, even if sometimes it gets tiring.

This was a bizarrely wholesome, educated view of the "youngsters on their phones." It's awesome to hear a veteran KZfaqr talk bout the good things that happened recently on this platform Also, I've been going through the wringer about my future recently. "What will I do with my life?" It's tough because I have clinical depression, which makes "wanting life" difficult, to say the very least. However, I've been coming to terms with just how much I wanna do, or at least try "No matter where you are, you're missing out." That changes perspective completely Why should I have "one life goal"? I can do anything! So, maybe I should do - not just anything - everything I want Maybe I'm talking big. I might not do half the things I want, but maybe that's okay - as long as I do something Thanks for the video. Keep making what you wanna make ^-^ 💙💙💙

When you stop changing you start dying. Stasis is the true killer. These times of discomfortable reflection are a part of the path. I applaud your honesty and continuing to push yourself to do/try new things. The best I can say is to not avoid these times of melancholy. Turn towards that space and let yourself feel what it is showing you. When you do have a spark of joy or inspiration fan those flames, even if you think it foolhardy. Embrace the random, embrace whatever may come and move through it / with it.

Skall, I can appreciate these heartfelt videos. Honestly, I like your uncensored wisdom. As a 30 year old Dutchman who has his life pretty well sorted, I can agree with the "experiment when you're young" mentality and the "You're never too old to switch" mentality. Due to life experiences, I (hopefully) will be switching career paths shortly to something that I can sustain for the remainder of my life. My current job is awesome and I love it but there's going to be a time in the somewhat near future that I can no longer do it. With that in mind, look at your priorities, what makes you happy in life, what you want to achieve and follow what feels good. Your parents don't know for you, your siblings definitely don't know for you. Go out, experiment, have fun and enjoy your life. You only have one.

As a musician I know your struggle with creativity damn well. One advice my best friend gave me when he was still alive was "Forget about the thought that everything you create can be a masterpiece. Instead of dwelling on the thoughts what you could've done better with your last project, focus on what you're going to create next. For everything you do there will be someone who thinks it's the worst thing you've ever done, but there will also be those who think it's the best thing you've ever done" I kinda wish I was as philosophical as he was. I don't know if that helps but it sure helped me a lot when he said it. Stay true to yourself Skall.

This video just happened to find me in a time when I'm about to make a major move to a place where I never envisioned myself living before. It'll be a big adjustment, but it's also the only opportunity I currently have for finishing my education and finally moving forward in my life instead of staying stagnant. Anyway, I've been feeling a little weird about all the changes happening at once, and although I want to move forward, it's all been a lot to take in, particularly the moving aspect. I'll be leaving behind the only city I've ever lived in, where virtually all of my friends live. I think this video was just the gentle reminder I needed that change, especially in the pursuit of self-improvement, isn't a bad thing. It's just _different._ With that little bit of perspective, I think I may just get a good night of sleep tonight. Thanks, Skall. You're a real one.

You're clearly a very creative person and I resonate with the particular kind of struggles that come with expressing yourself, and expressing it in a way that people enjoy (at least within the context of KZfaq content creation). On that note, you mentioned the fact how you seem to have periods of hyper productivity and vice versa, and I totally relate to that as an artist. Perhaps contemplation on what tempo you like to work at can provide more longer term stability! I'll always watch your channel for the inspiration you give my art. I can hardly state how uplifting these videos are for me. Without rambling too much i grow more and more disappointed the more people express themselves around me, the selfishness and inflated sense of self-worth mainly is demoralizing. And then there's Skall. Doesn't take himself seriously, doesn't think his opinion should be heard or followed just because he has one, doesn't grab a thought and run with it despite it being easier. Always thinking back at least a bit, what if this is a wrong choice ? What if this is a wrong idea ? While this benefits me, could it hurt others ? Always thoughtful, not just for the sake of argument, to be right, or just to analyze endlessly, but with the end drive of doing good. And yet still productive. I Love these little walks. And talks. Going in different directions, getting sidetracked, it is always interesting along the way as much as at the end. Once again, thank you Skal for brightening my day

“There is no need to hold on to something just because it was important to me in the past” is the idea that I struggled to formulate for some time, but managed to recently. I think it's a really helpful thing to remember that you life now, in the present. Yes, the past made you who you are right now, but you don't own anything to it. You don't have to do the same job just because it was your dream job 5 years ago, you don't have to keep talking to the same people, going to the same places, etc. It's not that you shouldn't-quite the contrary, if you really want it, then you should. But you shouldn't do something just because your past makes you feel like you should.

This video is really bittersweet for me. I've managed to crawl out of a hellhole about 3 years ago thanks to my family, and now I have a home, a spouse, and a job that feels great 80% of the time. Yet, I cannot shake the feeling that something is off, like I'm missing something, especially when I see my favorite channels on YT and keep on thinking "Ah! Now these people have an absolute blast of their lives!". I always wish I could just... pick the camera and start a channel of my own (I'm very very fond of TTRPGs, and they seem to be on a rise of popularity these years), but I'm just... so afraid. My ego is fragile like you woundn't believe! Videos like these remind me that it's not all sunshine and rainbows, especially "the grass is greener" thing. I get that a lot and this makes me lose sight of everything else. This is absolutely not a "grabage video", its a wonderful slice of life and, uh, maybe kind of "behind the scenes" thing that, to me, makes me view you as a very grounded individual.

hey man, good to open up about your thoughts. Honestly I loved seeing you just walking around the beautiful beaches and philosophising while sharing picturesque views with us. the thought occured to me... . You're wanting to visit europe and see the different cultures/ explore different histories 1st hand. . You're feeling like you're stuggling with ideas for good KZfaq content. . You've got the equipment, skills and the knowledge required to make a travel vlog/ history vlog. ... Shadiversity just spent some time in England visiting castles, doing some 'in the moment archeology/ history' vids. I believe they've done rather well on his channel. Would love to see some vids like that from yourself. Doesn't have to be about England/ about castles exclusively. Any gems you find in Europe will be treasured. I'd love to see your takes and expertise applied to 'lived-in-history'. No idea how extravagant that would be/ the finances behind it... You'll make some money back if you film it and post it of course. If anyone says "oh you're just doing what Shad's doing/ you're a copycat", etc... No, that's not it. Travel vlogs are a well known genre. Having someone with historical expertise doing the traveling and giving their own thoughts on things is just a naturally good move if you have the knowledge. Doesn't even have to be an uber long, 20+ episode series. Even a few vids in a few new places might give enough fresh air and new ideas for further content - could be a jumping board to even more. My 2 cents anyway. Just the thing that popped into my head as I saw the vid :)

This video hit hard on me, because I was born in South America, spent some years of my childhood in Italy, then back to South America, then for the last 14 years lived in Egypt...and few months ago I moved to Spain to start a new chapter of my life. Last year a big personal crisis hit me and had to deeply analyse myself. I realised that the pastures that I was feeding from where nice and comfortable, but were not giving me all the nutrients I'm needing at this stage of my life. Things change. Needs change. And the pastures can change too. And that's ok.

My first inclination is to burden this poor comment section with suggestions but I'll just say, you're only human. And you've got options. The right decision is the one you make because that'll make you more satisfied. When I cannot further my own purpose, I further the purposes of others. Because that feeds my ego and personality and all that other stuff and makes me happy. Maybe reach out. You're valuable to this community so maybe offer yourself up to others in it.

Always love seeing your stuff and it’s always so refreshing to see your videos talking about more than just weapons. Weapons are what I came here for, but now, you Skall and your words and thoughts are why I come watch. As well as the weapon breakdowns and what not haha. Yourself is greatly appreciated and loved, and so is your content and words of your experience. Keep grinding, you’re killing it ✌️

you're a big youtuber, over 1 million, which back in my days meant you're famous. And if you look at the sword community you're even bigger because I see a lot of random people who mentions you as a point of reference, you didn't do anything to upset your viewers nor other youtubers, you didn't get involved in drama e.t.c. What I mean is all though it's hard to maintain your channel, you earned your place in this part of the internet. Even people who don't follow most sword channels do know about skallagrim, and when I see comments of people talking about HEMA and sword stuff to others, i always see Skallagrim among the names people recommend. I think you got where you are the right way and the people who follow you don't mind if one day you just feel like doing something different or run out of ideas and just post a video talking about whatever random topic, you can do that, and honestly, i like random less edited videos where you just speak your mind while going for a walk. A channel I follow called Komander Karl, who is known for his game related spatial fx videos, is doing a series of livestreams called "being fat f****ng sucks" in which he just walks on a treadmill while reading the chat, and people actually watch them, because he's using it as an excuse to excersise while not being all alone. He had a ton of views on his reloading weapons videos, but he wants to do diferent things and his viewers support him. If you don't know what to do, even better, do whatever, talk about things you like or enjoy, rant about something that grinds your gears, check out the upcoming videogames, they're always a good option, you can play but you don't have to, you can analyse trailers, or give your opinion about the premise, the designs of armor and swords, like kingdom come deliverance 2 is announced already, mannerlords, people like sword stuff, you don't even have to talk about only the latest games, older games are being played more often than new ones lately because a lot of people are going back to them, to the time when they weren't cash cows, so I'm sure the rest of your viewers will still watch a video about an old game you like or tried recently, because it's YOU who made it. I also miss your movie or show reviews and recommendations and I'm still sad when I think you didn't watch Vinland saga for more than 1 episode. That show really is something diferent, season 2 is my favourite. It's a beautiful show. Do whatever and dont feel bad if not all your viewers watch it, for example I'm far less likely to watch sword reviews simply because I'm a zoomee whos still in college and can barely afford going to the gym, let alone HEMA gear and training. For me it doesn't make sense but I still watch some of them if they're about a sword I like. Other people might be older and more financially stable who only want gear reviews and maybe other videos about history but don't watch videogame stuff or videos about anime, two things I'm totally on board whith, but we're all still here watching you, and also, videos are there as long as you want, in the future when I'll be looking for a sword guess what type of videos I'll be watching? and I won't care if they're older ones. One thing you can do is remind people about your old videos about certain topics so they can go and watch them if they haven't already. And here's my ULTIMATE no brain video idea. You can do this whithout even thinking too much and it will 100% be popular videos: Take all your intros and make compilation videos. Skallagrik Dad joke compilation #4 Skallagrim out of context, where you put random parts of your videos saying random $hit. these two things are kinda hard to compile but they're already there, that's why they require no thinking effort. You have a lot of jokes and funny moments throughout your channel and making compilations of them is something I wouldn't mind watching 100 times. I'll never forget one of your old pieces of wisdom: "boobs do not compensate for spider leggs" -Skallagrim So what's the point of this comment? just do whatever, we like it because we like you and you don't need to impress us, you did it already :) And if you get bored of excerside you can always do workout streams, I'll be there, maybe I'll excersise while listening, or just do like in this video and go for a nice walk, i like walk videos, for some reason they're more engaging than static videos

I really enjoy these contemplative videos you make. Sure, we viewers originally came for the swords and swashbuckling! But through all those videos you’ve earned a more general respect. You’re eloquent, level-headed, and interesting to listen to. I know I’d love to have a chance just to talk over a beer. Take your time with this planning & exploration stage. The seasonality of up & downs is part of the creative process. Looking forward to whatever’s next.

Skal is just so human...it could even make a Vulcan cry. This is a guy who sees himself both through the world's eyes, his own eyes, and yet also sees the world through his own and other's. Dude is enlightened af. Please people, pay attention on the roads, watch for motorcycles, check your blind spots when changing lanes or turning, and loud pipes save lives. I could rant on about how youtube corporate is being "influenced" by professional actors/filmakers/producers to make it harder for YT amatuers to get more views than their multi-million dollar budget movies, which deliver less...that is a can of worms for another day, and I'm trying to keep this comment short as possible! I love you man! not in a creepy way though. keep it real, a lot of KZfaqrs are going through a similar crisis I think(AVGN perhaps? or maybe Hoovies Garage?) and handling it in different ways. like you said, the ability to adapt is key to survival. and sometimes, one should reflect on their current path, and maybe change course? it would have saved the Titanic...uhg...and all those people who have died in meaningless wars...fought only to balance or maintain the status quo. 😢

I'm almost twice as old as you and having the same thoughts. Good for you to have them now ;) because I too moved away from home and stayed away for 30 years. Now I'm in the process of moving back. There is nothing like too old if that's what you want to do. You'll have to be willing to work for it, but the rewards can be great! Remember that most of us (in the situation of you and me) are rather privileged. We have good passports, we don't flee from war, we can chose the belongings we take with us and with a little luck our partners share our thoughts and dreams. What more can we ask for to take advantage of life?
