You can get a great off-roader without spending so much on a Rebel or G/T. I have a 21’ Tradesman new body Crew Cab with 6’4” and Offroad package. 4x4 rear locker, skid plates, heavy duty shocks front and back and 1” lift. It came with Falkin Wildpeak AT3/W tires too, so very close to the Goodyears on the Rebel

This is the way. I got a Wrangler JLU Sport S with the rear LSD. Everyone thinks you need a Rubicon. But I put a spacer lift and 35"x11.5" tires on it and it's kept up with Rubicons here on the east coast on mud, ruts and 30⁰ inclines. You really _don't_ need to go out and spend $60k-$80k to have a fun off roader.

Rear locker also works in 2WD on the Rebel. Drop it $4,000 by ditching the GT package which doesn't really improve performance, drop another $2,000 for the moonroof you don't need. Spend $300 and change the muffler, good to go!

if only it was 1970 and everything was individual options again. Everything is sold in packages. Wanting a specific pack requires other lower level packages. Spend $5000 on lockers, lift, and tires and the white truck will go anywhere the red one will looking much worse.

It's crazy how much pricing has skyrocketed over the last few years. I bought my Rebel back in 2019 as the first year of the 5th generation before they had the G/T package. The only things my truck doesn't have compared to this are the leather seats, Mopar engine air filter, Mopar exhaust, 12" screen (I have 8"), and the e-torque. Was able to get a favorable discount back then that kept our out-the-door price under $50k (MSRP of $60k). Feels like a complete steal seeing current prices. I love my Rebel as well. 45k miles later and the truck still looks, drives, feels like it's new. Lots of daily driving with several off-roading/camping trips (places like Canyonlands Maze District), towing a large SXS, and many trips to the hardware store.

I’d like to see this comparison with the same tires on both trucks because after your first set of tires you can replace the tires with what ever you want. It would also be interesting to see how close they would perform if you put 20-25K into Stubbie. (Approximately half the difference in price between the 2 trucks.

Put a lift on the classic and slap off road tires on it and it will do most of anything that rebel can do, probably more as most people won’t risk that $75k truck on trails they wouldn’t think twice about running the Classic through.

If your using a truck for truck stuff I feel it would be a challenge to find a stock truck that came with 4wd that couldn't do the same thing as those two new ones. The only exception will be towing due to the power creep as things get newer. But again you have to be in a pretty vintage rig to not be able to tow normal loads on normal roads.

The biggest problem with most of the Ram 1500's is the lousy front ground clearance. A modest leveling kit and slightly larger diameter tires solves much of the problem--for thousands of dollars less than the high-dollar Rebel, etc. models. The locking rear differential and skid plate options aren't that expensive on the Tradesman. The current obsession with horsepower in a 4WD truck is stupid. Gearing and torque are what is important in a 4WD. I had a '74 4WD pickup with a whopping 155 hp and 275 lbs./ft. of torque that went up some of the worst trails in the Rocky Mountains without any issue.

The sweet spot for me would be to get the Classic but with a Quad Cab and 4x4. In Canada, the Classic starts at $48,500 (Tradesmen edition with Quad Cab, 4x4 and 6.4' bed) and using the building tool, I priced a Classic Night Edition with Quad Cab for $51,777. It looks quite nice on the outside and maybe not as nice as on the inside, but most of us can't justify the extra $25K+ just to have some niceties. Thanks for this comparison and I still chuckle a bit at Nathan's idea with the doggy poo business. Thanks for not firing him, lol

Classic Quad Cab 4x4 with SXT package... paid well under $40k otd. Best of all no start/stop, no eTorque. Moves well with the 3.55 rear axle. With skid plates and AT tires it would be even better offroad. Handles deep snow easy which is all I needed ;)

In Canada as well, just dropped 50k for a '23 Classic, after my '13 SLT gave up the ghost. Quad cab, rear locker, 3.55, 121 litre tank, Express Night Edition. Its a nice truck. I think with some better rubber on it (looking onto that this week), she'll be quite handy. Honestly I was hoping my SLT would last me a couple more years, the prices are pretty stupid out there. But the repair bills were just getting too much for a truck with 300k on it and full of holes. Had to make the call. Would have preferred the Warlock, but the extra 9k was out of reach.

Just ordered a TRX without the GT package. Rebel 12 package, advanced safety group, bed utility group (doesn’t include liner on this model), bed liner, Tri-fold cover, ram box and trailer brake in hydro blue for $3000 more than a Laramie I built. In the Laramie I did the off-road package so it was very similar in build just couldn’t get the grill/bumpers in black. They had a hydro blue Built to serve that was beautiful but wanted ram box, 12” console and an actual console not the bench flip down. I wasn’t willing to compromise the look I wanted for a few thousand dollars. Rebates and discounts weren’t as good on the rebel as the Laramie and 4000 more than Big Horn. It’ll take two months for the build, in that time they’ll adjust if discounts kick in. If not my lease right now at 42 months and 15,000/year is $680/month with $5000 down. Laramie was 620/month with 2500 down. Better options and ride vs GM and Ford.

My biggest problem is sometimes you want a pretty basic truck, but you want a few extras that are only available in packages that cost $3-$4K or they are only available in body styles that add thousands. Standard cab trucks are like finding a unicorn these days and when you do they have the base engine.

The front spoiler isn't just for gas mileage, it's for downforce. Less air under the truck means more air over the truck which means more downforce. Think of it like a body kit on a civic. Same thing. Do another test , get it up to 80mph and consider the lane change handling.

I was thinking the same thing after they said the price. My ZR2 was actually a bit cheaper then this Rebel GT. I'm guessing its a few random added options on the Rebel. But the Rebel has less HP and TQ and no front locker. Curious how the suspension and other features compare to the ZR2 since the Rebel GT's price is actually a little higher. Hearing 76k was a bit of a shock. I thought Ram prices were a bit lower than the competition. This one seems priced above a Chevy ZR2 or a Ford Tremor. Why??

If I was in the market for an all-around work and part-time off-road truck, I would be happy with a "Stubby" of my own because it would be simple/basic compared to the far more expensive truck. If I wanted a truck for play and sometimes work, I MIGHT consider the more expensive truck if I could not get better off road tires and underbody "armor" for my "Stubby" aftermarket.

Unfortunately, $38k is still too expensive for a basic work truck. Some of us need a vehicle to use to get to and from work, and even the cheapest cars on the market are out of our reach because they either don't exist where you live because trucks like this predominate dealer lots or are marked up in big cities. I had to take out a loan just to get a beat up old crown vic for $5k and even that seems steep for a beat up 03 Crown Vic that smells like a Las Vegas nightmare. And honestly, if Could have been approved a REAL loan, not a good faith loan from a family member, I'd be paying it back because then I could at least get work in my new home state, but banks frown on relocating people whonwere already well below the poverty line.

The Classic is a truck. The TRX is a toy. The Rebel is somewhere in between. Unless you're an off road hobbyist or work in the desert or something, the TRX is probably way more truck than you could ever truly put through its paces. It would be like domesticating a wolf. You can but its going to be unhappy and start losing its hair. I think the modern Rebels are for people looking for something a little bigger than the Classic/Tradesman/Warlock line of 1500s but don't really have a need for the extremely expensive toy that the TRX is. And I think it works, especially with the Rambox option that trades even more of the bed for heavy utility.

Rams are alright but I associate them with carrying gardening equipment to florida suburbia and less crawling up some rocks in Denver. Plus we've seen the TRX become useless in tight bends and dips in utah anyway If youre spending 80k+ on an offroader and it's not even top of the line for your make you're doing something wrong. Not with the electronics (screens, E torque, moon roof, etc) once the warranty ends it’ll be a money pit while the V6 basic engine will run forever with proper maintenance. Also if both of the trucks screen/radios fail, guess which one will cost less to fix?

@@garysarratt1 Not new. Been here a while. I’m saying I would go with a truck like stubby with a hemi over the gt. The $2200 extra would be worth it. That would be as close to what a real truck used to be. V-8, 2 doors, 4x4, just missing the 8ft bed and it would be what our parents and grandparents drove.

@@kcp7042 Stubby has more power than the 302 ‘75 ford and the 6 cyl ‘66 Ford we had. And the 318 Dodge we had. And the 350 ‘74 Chevy my uncle had. The only advantage was I could rebuild carburetors, replace starters, most everything in fact that went wrong I could fix without paying a mechanic. But things broke A LOT. At least trucks were cheap back then, because girls and women didn’t want them yet.

@@AndieBlack13 I’m not saying it’s all better, just that we used to wish things could be. You can’t honestly say navigation isn’t better, I used all the maps and was pretty good at it but I wouldn’t go back. I used straight shift fine but hated being slow or stopped on a steep grade, dealing with coffee in traffic (and smokes). Trying to precisely back a hay wagon or line up under a hitch by myself. @@garysarratt1 Let me address each issue, one by one....navigation? I can still read a map, I don't use the GPS system...my wife flew into a rage when her GPS couldn't correctly direct her out of a "multi-legged" roundabout. She now knows the route thru MEMORY. Clutch-work on an uphill grade?, hadn't figure that one out yet? Backing up a dog-trailer?....practice! Lining up the hitch for our family 18 1/2 foot boat...no more than three times. This video is misleading. You can get a Ram Rebel in 50k range without the GT package. IMO the Rebel with the GT package is worth it, it is certainly worth it around 55k. The issue with stubby is that in the used market, you can find a really nice full size truck like an XLT or Big Horn that makes stubby not an attractive buy.

So i went and looked up ford, chevy, and dodge. I built all 3 of the trucks the way I would if I was seriously buying one for just myself. all 1500 short beds minium features I would want a v8 and some variant of limited slip to a rear locker. Ford offers an electronic rear locker on their base truck (XL) Short bed 5.0v8 the price is 44 thousand. Dodge offers there 5.7v8 short bed 4x4 with a limited slip diffat 43 thousand....Chevy however does not offer a v8 in a single cab SHORT bed base model. to get the V8 I would have to get the standard bed size. So with a 2.7 liter turbo for the chevy was just under 42 thousand 800 dollars....Knowing all this I would get the ford with a true locker.

This is a great example of how a "joke" turns out to be cover for elitist views of society. As reviewers that constantly complain about not getting enough "work" trucks for the viewers, it seems odd that they have the opportunity to showcase one and this is what they do. Not all of us can work in an office, or jet set around driving exotic machines. There are porches full of muddy boots and torn work gloves across this country. Some of us work multiple jobs, including cleaning horse stalls, walking dogs, and cleaning out chicken coops. How about the guy who empties the septic tanks, his wife and crippled son ride with him so they can spend time together, any funny stickers for him. Or the guy who mops up blood in the emergency room in a South Bronx Hospital, any funny slogans for him? You have got to do better, or did your success ruin your perspective on real life?
