When it comes to hanging wallrock fiber lining paper like a pro, the choice between horizontal or vertical placement can significantly impact the outcome. Let me guide you through this process. With my extensive experience, I can make it simple.
If you decide to go horizontal, it involves applying the lining paper from left to right or right to left across the wall. This method is often preferred by what's known as old school decorators and something that's been passed down for generations to decorators and DIYers a like.
Conversely, vertical placement, from top to bottom, is a popular choice for those who can't do horizontal lining due to wall sizes and how awkward it may be to do.
No matter your decision, my expertise ensures that your wallrock fibre lining paper will be flawlessly installed.

Another Great Vid Phil, thanks. I won't use anything else, I'm a convert to wallrock since a decorator introduced me to it about 5 years ago. I use the different widths of wallrock on the same wall. I totally agree about vertical application. I reckon the main reason linning paper traditionally is applied horizontally is that theres less strips as walls tend to be wider than height although the reason the lines will be hiden is the most coined reason. I like your demo on its strength....rip vs pull. With your mantra in mind, Wallrock is a "work smarter not harder" product. Furthermore, I've also taken your advice and use products that are time efficient e.g. i used zinsser Allcoat (frames, skirting in white and doors black) to decorate a lobby in my flats. It allowed me to 2 coat and complete woodwork in a day requiring only 1 day access to each flat. Like you often say, the extra cost is nothing in comparison to man hours for the job so it makes sense. Keep the vids coming Cheers

Not yet but will give them a go on a job when theres less time pressures. The 1hr dry time was the biggy and quality is good with allcoat. I've used the brushkiller (johnos) before but dry time was too long for this job. Johnos is a brush killer....... It makes me want to add hair conditioner when i wash the brushes lol

Spot on Phil, I always say it doesnt matter whether you cross or drop...there are just two things I consider, the length/height of the wall, will I need a lot of boards and trestles to get across? And the shape of the wall, is it going to be quicker/easier to place 4 horizontal lengths, or 14/16/18+ vertical ones.

One thing you can’t do is not clasp your lips 😂 have a day off with that.Wall could have been set out better,I think wall rock/paste the wall has made decs lazy with that,it’s defo easier in that scenario pasting on the table IMO.If you got a long straight run of drops then paste the wall all day.Keep it the good content Phil,brylcreem contract coming your way at this rate

what I don't miss so much is little bits of cut paper with paste on them, sticking to everything.. sheets, shoes and always feeling you have paste on your fingers and sheers lol Time and a place for everything though.

When would you not hang vertically Phil? Is it just a case "how its always been done" lining horizontally.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 8 ай бұрын
You hang horizontally and that is your 100% way that you won't get the chance of joints matching up with the finish paper joints. If you know how to hang... You'll do what's easiest for the job/wall you're lining.

A table and Beeline paste machine was my way. Once put my scissors or shears as you like to call them, down the back of an electric plate getting myself a shock! lol and the paper.... was it not 'Supaglypta'? Dreadful stuff regarding the length of time it needed to soak, especially if it was patterned. Great video though, interesting to see how you young lads use spatulas and knives to hang paper.

@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 8 ай бұрын
go back about 20ish years, they did a product of lining paper the same as wallrock, but called it Armadillo.. then walrock seemed to take over and have a better product. Anaglypta still do a armadillo range of tuff (none woven) fibre papers... not done any recently though... seems a bit out dated.

Have you noticed the change in pulp lining paper size from 56cm to 53cm. Had a proper head scratcher moment when working off 2 rolls above and below a window.

Why not use a normal lining paper? I get the strength value of Fiberliner but if the walls are sound why pay treble for Fiberliner for something your no going to see? I'm guessing you only use a bit of fine surface filler because the walls where in good condition.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 8 ай бұрын
I could of done, but I've already done videos on normal paper lol It's not a so much the extra cost, you're only looking at £10 more to do a wall like that in wallrock.. or thereabouts, but hanging time is faster as you just PTW. no soaking, no waiting. You could also hang over it the same day if you were pushed for time.. you couldn't do that with normal paper. The wall was good, just a bit of mapping showing from before, that easy skimmed out.

Better off pasting paper off a table,amount of time you’ve fanny’ed around moving steps and cutting in you could of had all 3 drops pasted and ready to go.

At first, as it gives a bit of leeway to an inexperienced student but once they improve I introduce the option of close butting

I've had it argued to me that you leave a gap and fill it with fine surface filler when paper is dry. What's wrong with butting up? I never had any problem with that.

I spoze some peple struggle with it, then wantto spend time filling and sanding, spot priming it over with paste prior to hanging. All that time needs to be charged for. ;) Don't start me on painting over filler joints! lol
