We received a cockatiel from a breeder and were told it was a male. We named him Caesar. Caesar started laying eggs two years later. Caesar became Caesaretta. She was hilarious but very moody after laying.

I believe your Pearl is a male. I had a female that I had hoped would be a male. This was many years ago. Then because we enjoyed our female so much, we wanted another female. Long story short, our Lucy became a Louie, after the first molt. Louie is in birdy heaven now too. We did enjoy both our Cockatiels. What you said about male/female behavior is true. 👍🧡

He has been saying his name from 3 months old and also does the phone ringing and can say 'uh-oh'. 😄 He's my third cockatiel and neither of the others spoke. He is 6 months old now and has been molting here in the unusually warm Scottish weather. As he is grey and white it is harder to tell the sex. He certainly spends a lot of time with his head down next to my face getting kisses and does the little pecking thing to my lips when I stop. He is absolutely adorable and I'd love him either way. Such an adorable little bird 🐦❤🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

My mother is quite the old fashioned type; knows little to nothing about anything that includes a screen that requires charging _(she gets us to use any device of any kind to look up things for her),_ struggles with any business/financial related stuffs that requires the internet, because all she knows is a pen/pencil and paper, and she's more likely to understand someone in person rather than on a screen of any kind. Lol We have 2 cockatiels. We've had them for at least several years now. We've always believed them to be one male and the other female, but my mother started to have her doubts. She wanted to find an expert on birds _(in person)_ somewhere nearby to tell her what their genders are, but I found this video for her instead, and told her that they'd likely tell her the same thing that the lady in this video is saying. I tried to show it to her, but she said that she didn't understand what you were talking about, and still wanted to ask the opinion of someone in person. As I said, she often does that when watching people on the internet. Basically most of what you were saying, the differences between Cockatiel genders, were pretty much what we had already suspected, mostly. I reassured her that our cockatiels are indeed male and female, especially seeing as the girl has laid some non-fertile eggs before. So your video helped us out a lot, and helped put my mother's doubts to rest. Thank you. ☺️🙏❤️💯🦜

Pearl is a male he shows all the signs, pearls feathers wont tell u anything bc of his colour mutations he will mkst likley keep his pearls for his entire life

My Gilbee's a male & my avian vet confirmed it by checking for barring on the underside of his flight & tail feathers. He lowers his head like Pearl for head skritches & only pecks if you hit a pin feather. XD If you want to give him skritches we found that showing him your index finger's knuckle (curl your finger in) he'll bend his head. we've also noticed the older he is the quieter he is. He'll still squawk & sing, but not as much as when he was younger. When I come home from work or being out for a while, he'll start calling me when he hears the keys in the door lock. XD They're fun birds, budgies too! You're lucky Pillow is so friendly! All the budgies I've ever had never wanted to leave their cage & would flip out whenever I cleaned them out. XD

back when i got my baby, i had hoped get a male cockatiel but, ended up with a female that got used to male pronouns. so at this point i just say "yea, he's a he" because he used to show a lot of male traits when he was young, and the traits carried past his first hatchday, but suddenly dropped at about a year and two months or so. still glad i have my cuddly bird though.

Very helpful. Even thought my baby is about 3months old I think it's a boy. Also helped me make my decision because of his aggression when wanting to be pet. He pecks my face and lowers his head also when wanting to be pet.

Thank you for making this video!! I adopted a 5-month-old cockatiel and was told that she is female (supposedly DNA tested). She is now 1 year/2 months old and shows mostly female characteristics. HOWEVER, she talks quite often and has a rather large vocabulary for a female cockatiel!! I've had many cockatiels throughout my life and have NEVER heard a female speak so often and so clearly!! My question is should I have her DNA tested myself based upon her extensive vocabulary? Any advice is much appreciated!!

My boyfrien's mom has a pair of cockatiels. They had a nest of eggs and only one hatched. They decided when it gets old enough that I will be getting their baby. I found this video very informative and helpful. (Baby is only a couple weeks old rn but I was wondering how I'd tell when it gets older and how old so this was extremely helpful)

I just got a 10 week old cockatiel baby. The breeder suspects them to be male, but I think she is female. But now I’m not sure with all this new information!! She is very quiet but she will contact call me if I leave the seat next to her cage. She bobs her head sometimes but no hopping. She’s still kind of clumsy being a baby and all though. She is a white faced cockatiel and from what I’ve seen the males have white heads and don’t have barbed tails while the females have grey heads and barbed tails. She has the former but I didn’t know they could change with a molt. Hasn’t had her first molt yet. I’ve taken to calling her Luna because her grey feathers remind me of the moon. Thank you for the information. However, my cockatiel is an albino and it’s about two years old. It makes calling sounds and we believe it’s a male bird. Since it’s all white, it’s difficult to see the spotting or lively colors. Any other suggestions, besides taking it to the vet? Thank you again! Mario

Ha, my newly adopted girl is the opposite, solid grey feathers but pearling under her tail feathers. I didn't have her at a young age so no idea if she had it previously though.

I have a 25 year old female cockatiel! She’s a feisty old gal, as her vet calls her. She actually is grey, yellow, white, and has bright orange cheeks. So many people have tried telling me she’s a boy. I can’t tell you how many eggs I’ve had to remove. Definitely a girl! Lol😂

I had three cockatiels, all passed away. We named them Baby (our first bird, male), Ace (our second and first to pass, possibly female), and Juno (our third after Ace pass, male). We got all of them from a friend who was breeding cockatiels so they were siblings. Baby and Juno were our longest pair recognize the two were practically identical with bright cheeks, yellow heads, and solid dark gray bodies, and were equally as loud. Ace who pass under a year old had a lighter gray color and light color cheeks, Ace was slightly quieter then her brother Baby so we assumed Ace was a girl. Again if we were wrong, since I also thought Juno was female too, they kept their names as they were slightly gender neutral.

Hi. Thanks for the video. However, I am still struggling to find. I have two adult yellow lutino cockatiels (around 3 years old) namely Eva and Rio. One of them, Rio, is definitely female as it had laid infertile eggs. Eva has never laid eggs but the cheek's colour, tail feathers are similar to Rio. The voice of the Eva is also twice as loud as Rio and Eva has shown greater aggression. Eva also exhibits beak banging, territorial behaviours but never whistles or sings. Eva is now constantly getting on top of Rio in a mating position and give out sounds as well. But I have not provided them with any nesting box as previously Rio laid infertile eggs and became very weak and unhealthy. I am planning to take them for a DNA test but since I live in countryside, finding proper centre is really difficult. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I was today years old when I found out our two years old cockatiel is female. Her behaviour as explained in this video is 100% male except for the fact I found two eggs in her shelter today xd Gender is mostly stories we tell our brain to make sense out of reality

its so hard as i have a cinnamon cockatiel, who has a male appearance, female personality, and has lived most of her life in a cage, we think that the bird is a female but we'll never now, as we do not want to pull a feather or clip a toenail, we are not about hurting our bird for an uncertain test, love the vid but i still have no idea, also... the main reasoning for assuming that shes a female is due to the fact that she has connected with females faster, and has a very feminine attitude, hisses when you get in her space, gets a bit moody if you talk to her to early in the morning or late at night. would you recommend getting some kind of dna test or do you think our assumption might be right? again, loved the video, very educational.

Mine hasn’t molted but looks like yours Pearl. The breeders are guessing male and he doesn’t make much sound now. He’s only been with us 4 days and chirped about 4 times. He acts like he starts the head bob then stops. He already wants to climb on me but I’m not used to birds being on me so I’m making him wait before I let him climb on me lol. I let him eat millet while holding him in my head and get head scratches. He attacks things and squeals when he doesn’t like it I guess. He’s only flown out of fear twice because something behind him moved and made a loud sound. His flying scared me the first time and I ran away then he purposely flew at me to see if I would run again lol. Have you don’t a video on bird bonding? I’ll look to see but I would love to know how you got your birds so comfortable with you and how your first couple of weeks were with them.

Hey! I dont know the gender of my cockatiel is unknown (( we were told that my bird was a female but I'm not quite sure )) and I need a bit of help. So my bird has bright cheeks sort of (( we have a male and he has brighter colored cheeks )) and dark coloring on the wings but has a more muted color of grey on her chest (( I'm not quite sure why her wing areas are darked than the main body/chest )). But she has a sort of vibrant yellow on her head, but on the back she has a muted yellow, her personality is mainly shy and calm and she usually tries to flee when she senses danger.

I also got a budgie and I already have the budgie but the cockatiel is still being hand fed so I should get it between 2 weeks to a month.
