Once I started praying the entire Rosary everyday and going to daily Mass, the desire for religious life became stronger and stronger. The third convent I visited was where I finally found rest! Through Mary, I believe that I have found what I was made for!

from book( To Save a Thousand Souls) Who Will You Bring With You Into Heaven? I once heard a priest tell his vocation story. I grew up in a very close, devout Catholic family with loving parents and we prayed together as a family every day. I attended a Catholic school with wonderful teaching Sisters and everything in my life revolved around the Church. I lived in a very Catholic culture. I was the number one altar server, the star student, and a leader in my class. Because of this, and the fact that I loved being around the parish, serving and helping out the priests, everyone would say the same thing, “You will be a priest when you grow up. Won’t you?” I heard this constantly from the other kids in my class, from the sisters who taught me, and from the two assistant priests, who were always visiting the classes and interacting with me around the church. But I never heard it from the pastor, which I appreciated. I got tired of people urging the priesthood on me, because I did not especially want to become a priest. I always wondered why the pastor, an elderly Monsignor, never asked me about priesthood as everyone else did, though he was always very kind to the altar servers. One day, as I was coming close to graduation from the parish school, I was assigned to serve the seven o’clock morning Mass and the elderly pastor was the celebrant. Only the two of us were in the sacristy and he vested in silence, mumbling the vesting prayers in Latin and preparing himself for Holy Mass. With just two minutes to go before the Mass began, the Monsignor suddenly turned and said, “John, what will you be doing when you grow up?” I thought to myself, “Oh boy, here it comes. Even from Monsignor.” But I replied, “Monsignor, I am still not certain but I am thinking about going into medicine. I would like to become a doctor.” And the pastor replied, “Good. Good. And what will you do after that?” I said, “Well, I suppose I will marry and have a family of my own.” The priest said, “Good, and what after that?” Not sure exactly where he was going with this line of questioning, I replied, “I guess I will grow old, practicing medicine, and eventually retire. And then I guess I will die and go to heaven.” The pastor nodded his head knowingly, thoughtfully, and he was quiet for a few seconds. Then he looked at me earnestly and said, “And who will you bring with you into heaven?” Immediately, he rang the sacristy bell and we walked out to begin the Mass. I thought to myself, “How clever you are, Monsignor. How clever you are.” I thought about that comment all during the Mass and many more times during my adolescent and young adult years. “And who will you bring with you into heaven?” It was asking myself that question repeatedly that really turned the tide and convinced me eventually that I should become a priest. Every vocation is about helping other people reach heaven. I tell this story not to minimize the greatness of the sacrament of marriage, because marriage serves the same purpose! I suppose the young man might have used the same comment made by the pastor to move him towards the vocation of marriage. But the story illustrates the critical point that a vocation is not primarily about self-fulfillment, but about being the instrument of God in saving others. “What will you do with your life? What are your plans? Have you ever thought of committing your existence totally to Christ? Do you think that there can be anything greater than to bring Jesus to people and people to Jesus?” Pope John Paul II

@@georgeortega534 The Vocational Pre-Determination by God When I was a vocation director, I would visit the Catholic schools in my diocese to teach the children about vocations. I explained to them that before God had even created the world, he knew them and he loved them. He already knew your name, he knew every thought you would ever think, he knew how many hairs were on your head, he knew your sins, he knew your good deeds, and he even saw the moment of your death and your entrance into heaven. And God had already decided your vocation before he had even made the world! Or at least, he had already planned to which vocation you would be called. When it finally became time for you to be born, God created your soul to go inside your tiny body, and it was created specifically for that pre-determined vocation. I call this concept the vocational pre-determination by God, or vocational pre-destination. If God is calling you to marriage, then he prepared your soul and gave you the gifts of body and soul to live out the vocation of marriage. If God is calling you to priesthood, then your soul and body were made with that vocation in mind. This will be an important hint for you as you discern. Look at the gifts God has given to you and where those gifts are best used to build up the Kingdom.

Thank you so much for this video. The Newman Center at my university was run by Dominican priests and sisters, and I started feeling like the religious life was for me. I dated a girl in my last year of university, but we broke up, and ever since then, I've felt drawn back to thinking about religious life. I also started reading on Benedictine monasticism, and now I'm debating between the Dominicans and Benedictines. Part of me still worries that marriage could also be my calling, and I'm also worried that I won't be able to support my parents and brothers financially if I choose the religious life (especially since we live in an area that's becoming more expensive by the day). Then there's also the part of me feeling that choosing the religious life is cowardly because I'm "escaping" the demands of living in the real world with a career and a family. This video calmed these worries and reinforced the fact that, yes, God is calling me. And that it's not cowardly to want to give up everything to follow Him. The only question left is which order I want to join. I'm going to visit a Benedictine abbey and a Dominican priory near me. The charisms of both orders really interest me, so it's going to be a hard decision.

Overwhelming peace. I just want to lay down and be there forever hahaha. For some reason as well, I love to go to our city's perpetual adoration frequently when I get the chance. I love praying devotions as well, especially the Holy Face devotion and the Friday Stations of the Cross. My mother just told me I might be using religion as my scapegoat for my professional growth, so I'm getting second thoughts if indeed I'm just getting away from reality. Isn't Jesus more real than this temporal life? Please pray for me. I just started daily mass this week.

They are the joy of God.” Mary of Magdala blushes and asks: “And we... the ruins that you are building up... What shall we become?” “What your virgin sisters are. And martyrs against yourselves and recollections of your past and through thirst for love and expiation.” “Must I believe that?” Jesus lays His hand on her # 168 - The Parable of the Lost Drachma

Deeply touch by your testimony Fr. Thank you and God bless you more. I am discerning for a religious life too and showed up already but I wasn´t able to enter yet due to some responsibilities in the family. Pray for me my dear brethren in Christ to persevere until the end despite many obstacles and distractions. Entrusting and surrendering to God everything. May God´s will be done. I believe if this is what God really wants for me, nothing is impossible. For now, praying the full mysteries of the Rosary, daily mass and devotion to Mama Mary, St. Joseph, my guardian angel and patron saints helps me a lot not to lose sight on what God has put in my heart. United in prayers. To God be the glory!

Discerning a vocation as an only child from a very family-oriented culture has been and continues to be so difficult for me. I feel like I am running out of time, but recently, the door seemed to open again to the possibility that this could be my vocation. I wept throughout this video -- one, because of this continuing restlessness, and two, because of the hope and encouragement your advice gives. Thank you and God bless you, brother. Please pray for us.

For a couple of months now I’ve been studying Angelology. It started as an ADHD hyperfixation because I really wanted to create a drawing of the three Archangels. For the last three weeks I keep going back to St. Gabriel the Archangel non-stop. My heart’s been aching wanting to know more and more about the being who got to tell Our Mother about The Savior. It won’t leave me no matter how much I pray and ask what does this mean, and if it’s not from God, for it to begone. But it’s not leaving and I don’t know what to do. This video started with Be Not Afraid. I kinda am afraid right now.

Fr Brett Brannen Discernment is not a choice between good and evil, but often a choice between the good and the best. What is best for you is your proper vocation. # “There are only three kinds of persons; those who serve God, having found Him; others who are occupied in seeking Him, not having found Him; while the remainder live without seeking Him and without having found Him. The first are reasonable and happy, the last are foolish and unhappy; those between are unhappy and reasonable.” # All fears can be overcome by increasing one’s faith, hope, and love. In fact, it is not overly simplistic to state that every problem known to man can be fixed by these three theological virtues # God is infinite in power and he loves me infinitely. There is no snatching out of his hand. God will never send me where his grace cannot sustain me. If he asks me to do something difficult, like become a priest, he will give me the grace to do it. I will not fail because he is with me. And I will be happy because I am doing his will. Even if I lack some of the needed qualities, God will help me develop them. In his will lies my peace.

Fr Brett Brannen The Vocational Pre-Determination by God When I was a vocation director, I would visit the Catholic schools in my diocese to teach the children about vocations.

I grew up with a lot of family dysfunction and believed a lot of lies about myself and God. It made it tremendously hard to discern my vocation because I really thought that God just wanted me to suffer or that I should make up for the deficiencies of others. It also drove me crazy that, because I truly desired to give myself to God and practiced prayer, everyone asked me if I was going to be a nun. I knew that everyone was called to be holy no matter what the vocation but I felt that if no one was going into religious life, I could answer the call- make it right for everyone, I'll do it if every one else is being stingy. Thankfully I spent time in prayer everyday so that God could speak or more importantly- not speak. He never ever asked me to marry him. After years of painful discernment I got so tired of the battle in my head that I spent the entire summer just praying about union with God. At the end of the summer I was walking across the parking lot to go to daily Mass and suddenly it was as if I had always known. I am celebrating my tenth wedding anniversary this year and have four lovely children. Through my husband and marriage God has begun and will finish his good work in me. It is incredible what God can do in and through you when you truly let him have his way with you.

Also for fun this is my husband's vocation story. He had recently become Catholic and was just on fire. We went to Mass at this beautiful church with one of my friends that was in seminary at the time (now a priest). We went to go pray in front of this beautiful Mary statue and my future husband's plan was to promise Mary that he would become a priest. We knelt down and before he could promise my future priest friend taps him on the shoulder and is like "hey uh- do you know where the bathroom is??" The message was pretty clear. Please spend your life taking little kids to the bathroom instead of making lavish promises😂😂😂 Some people are just that generous with God 🤗

I can't stop thinking about becoming a Priest. No matter what I do, I come back to it. I'm so scared though. I don't feel worthy, I don't feel like the right choice, I have tattoos and I don't feel like a good enough person. I don't want to disobey this calling but I keep looking for ways out, to run as Jonah did. It's such a strong calling though. How do I let go of my fears to say "Yes" to it?

Thats the problem, overthinking, you are thinking too much ,and you just need to let it go and have faith that faith will lead you..I have same thoughts as you are ,and calling, its scary, i dont feel worthy.Thinking too much, and not doing the action is a problem.Sometimes ,we just need to pull the trigger in life, no matter how we feel, what we think ,or what happens...at least we tried doing something, what can we lose.nothing.

no matter how grave your sins are, the most hurtful sin to Our Lord is to turn our back on Him after sinning. If Adam and Eve would have asked for forgiveness after the original sin, they would have been forgiven and that sin would have NOT have the generational consequence it had. "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
