Below is the perfect storm of issues that made me feel unhealthy: Sleep apnea. Nightly heartburn proton inhibitor usage. - Reduces magnesium needed for sleep. - Reduces stomach acid needed to absorb nutrients. Antibiotics 2 rounds. - Eliminated bacterial biome needed for healthy function. American standard diet. - Including lots of processed and fast foods. Overweight. Little to no exercise. Work stress. I felt much much better after being prescribed a CPAP. I’ve been using it 3 years. But to get really good results, I resolved all the above issues. Losing the weight got me off heartburn pills. Eating a clean mostly plant based diet brought back my intestinal biome. Taking quality vitamin supplements, lespecially magnesium for sleeping. Created a dark room environment for solid sleep. Light weight lifting and bicycling for exercise which raises my heart beat for extended periods which aids in sleeping. All these things helped me better cope with work stress. Results: I’m not sleepy during the day. I don’t wake with headaches. I’m happier. I feel healthy. Edit: oh, and my memory is so much better now

I think I have had this for years. Despite being married for 25 years my wife never mentioned it. Now divorced perhaps she hoped I would pop my clogs one night. Recently been sailing overnight on my boat and a friend sleeping in the same cabin said I stop breathing several times during the night. Also recently I have woken and struggled to breathe. Had long term fatigue and I have now made an appointment to see my GP. Thanks.

Thanks for this, guys. I have a suspicion I have it and I'm going to get it looked at. I have SUCH fatigue in the day. I do have anemia, but it could be a combo of both. Lots of headaches. Consistently wake up in the night. And I snore VERY loud apparently. All of these are pretty likely symptoms for sleep apnea, so please get checked out, everyone.

With Kaiser in California and also in Europe, they give you a questionnaire and then send you home to sleep with a CPAP machine for a week, instead of having you sleep in the lab. The machine has telemetry so it sends your data to the sleep specialist and they can check on you daily. It's a better test because they see how you do in your native habitat. I was really stuck losing weight until I was diagnosed, and after a short adjustment period, the CPAP has brought me blessedly deep and peaceful sleep and I felt better within days.

i got a home sleep study 2 years ago. they said I didn't have sleep a. 2 years later I did another sleep study in march of 2021. waiting for results. I have done everything to stay off my back. pillow wedges etc. sleeping on the couch so I don't roll over with wedges pillows. I have done everything but stand up straight.. I can feel my tonque hitting my back of throat when I do wake up from a dream. my heart is racing once I get up. takes a while to get me down to normal. I do deep breathing for 10 mins at 2am. crazy. last study said my oxygen levels were normal.. I know I have a big problem here at nite.. one thing I did was not eat heavy meals at nite. I don't eat after 530 anymore. just a salad at 530 pm. nothing more after until bed at 10 pm. it helps.. heavy meals at nite if you snore is a big no no. just ask me.. eat light at 5 pm and will help big time.. I hope I can get this sleeping thing fixed soon. not sure how ill survive if I don't.. im in good shape to not over weight. I work out all my life and active.. eat good.. sleep?? must be a age thing im 62 male..

I mean? Would having JHS or EDS and daytime sleepiness really constitute someone to think to themself or tell someone else OH ITS DEFINITELY SLEEP APNEA? Idk. I'm no expert, I've just done a lot of my own research on hypermobility spectrum disorders. There are literally hundreds of things that can make a person feel fatigued or sleepy during the day that aren't even related to sleep disorders. At least 20% if not more of the population is hypermobile, so if you happen to be and you also have daytime sleepiness I still wouldn't say it points to sleep apnea.

I used to sleep like baby, but ever since I got hit by a car 1-1/2yrs ago and suffered brain injury, I have had trouble sleeping. I cannot take melatonin because I am hyperthyroid and it affects my metabolism - causes severe shivering. When I was put on Gabapentin it helped with my sleeping at first, but after a couple months I was back to waking every 1-2 hrs all night long. I am currently takin magnesium supplement and Epsom Salt bathes, but still waking all night long. I am unable to exercise as vigorously as I was before the accident and that may not help. Maybe I should look into this Sleep Apnea.

I'm really suspect about this particular test as pretty much any male over 50 even of normal weight with a neck over 16 is probably going to score high. Further there is only one question in regard to outward daily symptoms. This is in direct opposition to the Epworth test which seems to be more of a standard adopted across national health departments. On this STOPBANG test, I scored at high risk, while on Epworth, I am extremely low risk. This points to the reliability of at least one of these tests is in serious question.

The problem is depending on one's insurance they no longer put you in a lab to observe your sleep. This would have been my preference for sure but they told me insurance will ONLY pay for that if the at home tests fail. The at home testing equipment they sent with me was TERRIBLE. The first unit malfunctioned over and over so they gave me a newer one. I had problems with it as well but they assured me they had enough data to diagnose me with Sleep Apnea and in need of CPAP. I never felt better after using the thing for a couple of months. I finally stopped. It really seems like these "sleep centers" push this equipment and the unbelievable cost of the filters to soak insurance plans. I'm sure Apnea is a real thing but I'm not so sure of these at home diagnostic equipment/tests.
