Nietzsche's master and slave morality is about the perspective you take upon the world. Do you view the world through the eyes of a victim or a conquerer?

I was born very poor and a little dumb but genetically very strong. I married a beautiful woman who is very intelligent and went to an elite school. Now she stays at home and I provide for her while we make a family. I will leave something great for my descendants. I will live to see my grandchildren be wealthy, strong, beautiful, and intelligent. I hope everyone here achieves that for their families and themselves. The time for glory is now!

Very powerful message here. It is so true that society has this tendency towards victimizing themselves in a way that also reinforces the behaviors that keeps them locked into those belief systems, denying themselves any chance for freeing themselves. After everything I have personally researched, I am genuinely surprised how eye-opening the idea of sympathizing with the 'jock' was for me. It really only reinforced the point you have raised. Looking forward to hearing more!

Generally agree with the analysis but I think it ought to be recognized that the 'jock' character in the context of the high-school drama is also (to an extent) a historical result of slave morality, and as such their aggression is actually often predicated on self-hatred/ lack of direction or purpose/ inability to control their world in the ways that really matter, rather than an unreactionary surge of vitality and greatness.

Harry Potter was the wrong example to use. Harry is the son of the wizard equivalent of Chad and Stacy and literally has a vault filled with gold. The first part of the first book is all about how he couldn't hide his excellence among mediocrity. I think the main point the "nerd" vs the "jock" story trope is that the jock shouldn't abuse his power or take it for granted and the nerd shouldn't be underestimated.

Slave programming runs so deep that these past few weeks have shown me myself in such a way that I don't even recognize the person I lived as. It's been very humbling but also frustrating to break out of those habitual thoughts so that I may undertake the juicy journey of the Superman. In terms of storytelling I like distinguishing villains and antagonists from one another even if they functionally serve the same goal, there is this weird paradigm of writing villains as sympathetic but it paints them in such a way that it feels like even the art of writing antagonists has been poisoned by slave thinking. It's a challenge to break out of that line of thinking, but it's worth it.

Don't you think the jock-bullying-the-nerd thing is perhaps a uniquely American archetype? Like when I was in school here in England the jock-type popular guys were too busy playing football and getting drunk and getting girls to even look at the nerds, let alone bully them. Meanwhile, someone like me (smart but didn't try; good at sport but not amazing) who was kind of in the middle, the jock-types and the nerds were both fine with, even though I wasn't officially in either of their groups. The nerd might envy and resent the jock, but the jock doesn't even know the nerd exists. Also, in the more classic American films, the good but meek nerd integrates the vitality of the bullying jock to overcome him, like in Back to.the Future when the nerd sparks out that huge jock guy and gets the girl and never gets pushed around again.

I find it fascinating that trough my entire childhood i never observed the "jock" mentality. It simply did not exist in my small town where everyone knew everyone. We all where peasants and plebs, there was and is still no "Aristocrats", even though half the population here are Millionares for simply working blue collar jobs that pay on average 2500-3500$. My own father earned 3000$ and i earn 3000$ currently at my job, and often go years without working as i don't care about more money then being able to live "800$ per month so 2200$ left in my pocket each month". I guess this is just the power of a place with a insane amount of natural resources. A city is a poor place, what natural resources is there in a city? Nothing, it's a empty, devoid wasteland of potential. If you want to get rich quick scrubs, get the "#¤% out of cities. By the way, as kids, none of us, the entire school ever got any pocket money from our rich as fk parents. Based parents AF, don't give kids money.

There is also inner divisions within the jock group. For the jocks there is the alpha leader but there is the second in command alpha who will get into arguments with the leader over tactics or opinions and who feels he is not getting enough praise or recognition. An example such as Goku and vegeta. Then there is the neutral jock who is physically gifted but doesn’t have the charisma as the leader alpha or the bold aggression as the second in command alpha. Then there are the jocks who were once nerds but trained to become jocks and know how to play the part but will always have their nerdy features and lack of aggressive instinct.

I mostly agree with your message, despite that, i have minor disagreements about some concepts: - We all agree that those who hates jocks just for who they are, are filled with resentment, however, most normal people just despise the unnecesary bullying the "jock" does to the nerd in fiction, i am from a country very far away from U.S.A, but i want to believe that most charismatic, sportsman guys just mind their own business and leave the nerds alone. - The most beautyfull girls are not always the best choice genetically and spiritually speaking, it is always better someone regular with very good health and habits, that will make your offspring get far, than a girl who is beautyfull but have very bad health (which doesn´t always manifest in the body) and is a bitch to you..Of course, if you can get the beautyfull girl with top health and values, go for it champ ;). But the spiritual and health factors must be the priority from my perspective. - Lastly, i believe that a world in which natural beauty and intelligence is still valued, but not in a way that makes people who doesn´t have those qualities feel like shit for not having them, is the best we can get.. Ultimately, there is so much people with spoiled awesome potential for success and beauty, due to being fucked up by their family bad habits or upbringing, that it seems very unfair and cruel to treat them badly for that, they already got a hard time at their homes, let´s not create a society which makes them more unhappy and doesn´t give them a chance to upgrade themselves and reach the best they can be with what they have.

A good story doesn't demonize the powerful as evil, but as sometimes blind to the possibility of failure. I'm rewatching Avatar the last airbender with my nephew, and I noticed that yeah, there's a dominating fascist bad guy, but his kids, being upper class winners, are nonetheless human and flawed. Not evil psycho jocks (even though that may be the first impression), but a product of their upbringing. One decides to follow the path of perfection until she shatters, and the other chooses a life of spiritual hardship but redemption. We all have a lot to learn from each other, no matter what the class. I wish more movies didn't dig at that resentment so much, it's a little sickening. Great video btw, lots to think about!!

I think a big problem in modern society is that the rulling caste aren't actually very aristocratic anymore. Repeating ideology gets people promoted, you don't have to be aristocratic for that. The pigslop you're talking about is a product of the upper class that's used to keep people occupied, but they've been consuming it themselves for a long time and it's causing a spiral of degradation because they won't take influence from outside sources. That's a process begun by Christianity, undermining the aristocratic values and elevating the lower to the same level. The bishop becomes the leader and not the warrior, who only sees the world in terms of words and doesn't define himself by the enemies he fights.

Presenting yourself successfully as a victim is also a very powerful tool for advancing in society. From the perspective of your nation and building a civilization, it is not a constructive behavior. It can be used by ethnic minorities living within another nation however, if they feel so different from the majority that they are willing to break down their society. When an ethnic group manages to advance by playing the victim, their effect on culture will of course be that natural skills are less valued.

Fascinating analysis. I do think alot of people mistake Nietzsche's point as being this edgy, Darwinian mentality where 'might makes right'. However, the difference between master and slave morality could be summarized as the difference between people who embrace learned helplessness, vs those who have a healthy sense of confidence. Instead of jock vs nerd, I'd wager another similar example could be seen in middle-class person vs thug drug addict. The middle-class person values the same things that the 'masters' do. Things like education, delayed gratification, self-control, and hard work to provide stability for further progeny. The crackhead that wants to rob you on the bus at knifepoint only cares about fulfilling their present needs at any expense, regardless of the negative consequences they or others experience. They certainly are not thinking about providing stability or improving themselves in any way, and believe everything is 'owed' to them. Perhaps this is the same reason why they started this habit. The difference is stark. While there are occurrences of the rich elite misusing their power and influence, I find the other side to be just as destructive to society.

definitly agree with uberboyo. Nietzsche philosophy needs Jung hero archetype to be understood and used. I understand that most people by simple reading nietzsche they would see the Ubermensch as a brutal savage dominant man. If we integrate the hero archetype to the Ubermensch we have a complete advanced human. Nietzsche himself had the hero archetype in his description of the master mentality but in a way that us modern man cannot understand. He mentions that the master is a noble, an aristocrat. A noble is someone who acts in the best way in all circumstances therefore a hero.

"Noblesse oblige" is the term you're looking for, I believe. This is my understanding of it. It came to me as I was watching the movie AKIRA. Power comes with the responsibility to Control it, and use it in a way that is Morally constructive for yourself and society, including for the ones who do not have Power. If only Power exists, it runs amok, destroys, causes chaos and all is lost. If only Power and the Control to unleash it only on command exist, they still cause chaos. In that chaos, nothing truly good and nurturing can exist, and still all is lost. But add to that knowledge of when, how and why to use it, in order to prevent unnecessary chaos, to help create conditions to nurture what is necessary and good in society and man, then you're a winner.

I don't see the point of celebrating something thst you haven't worked for. Your gentics for example are completely out of your control. This isn't to say you should feel ashamed for being a good looking person, but that what you should actually be celebrating are the things you have put blood sweat and tears into. When your actively trying to achieve self mastery and you see how far you have come, this is where we celebrate.

Avoiding both extreme views I take the transcendent view. This is suffering, this is the cause of suffering, this is the cessation of suffering. And this is the coherent 8 aspected method that results in the absolute cessation of all suffering when brought to perfect culmination. All other views will result in binding.

According to eastern way of thinking if someone is born with exceptional good looks and body it is because of good karma from past lives, that is they earned it. It is not just due to random occurrence or luck. For that reason when you are looking at someone with good body and looks understand that you are actually looking at someone with good karma. It is offer. Promoted that someone with good looks is a shallow person but if you actually speak to these people you might find they have an unusual mind that goes along with those looks

It's shocking to me how resentful people are, and they just can't accept that they're resentful. They turn their resentment into all of these justifications, as to why person A is bad and why THEY don't even have to improve. I catch myself feeling envious/resentful sometimes, but have made a habit of immediately calling myself out, and trying to empathize with the person I resent/envy. For example, my neighbor is a lawyer and has a beautiful lawn. Mine is not as beautiful, but I take that natural instinct to resent and make excuses, and instead think about my lawyer neighbor's perspective, and I feel inspired to improve my own garden!

The reason we respect entrepreneurs who built their empires from nothing instead of trust-fund babies dependent on daddy's money is bc one is evidence of strength, might & the ability of the individual; the other is just a mark of dependence. Napoleon, Genghis & Caesar would not nearly be as revered in the annals of history if they hadn't created their empires from nothing. If they weren't self-made men. Even Alexander, who inherited the kingdom of Macedonia, fought to secure his throne by assassinating his cousins & brothers; then expanded that measly kingdom into an empire swallowing the known world of his own ability. Would he be anything noteworthy if he just had it all passed down to him? True Masters rise from the depths to the heights of existence of no other fault than their own will. Anything else is a weakling depending on external sources, and he will meet his end when he happens upon someone of true individual might.

Most of the great men in history come from upper middle class backgrounds. There are exceptions of course but all of the men you mentioned were given enormous platforms by dozens of generations of their families. In the modern age, the likes of Elon Musk and Bill Gates come from very comfortable upper middle class families. The reality is that money will tend to buy your kids a better education than no money - and in order to have a successful profession as a parent you will have certain values that you instil in your child. There is also the even more important issue of connections - in reality most people, on some level succeed through connections - even if just very peripheral. These inevitably come from family. There is much resentment towards upper middle class kids but without that group of people much of the great work in human history wouldn't have been done. Most of your favourite actors, directors, your doctor, lawyer etc come from that type of background.
@KevinJohnson-cv2no
@KevinJohnson-cv2no Жыл бұрын
@@joblakelisbon Yeah, Julius Caesar was sure given an enormous platform by his family when Sulla blacklisted him in his proscriptions and declared the Julii an outlawed lineage. Napoleon was sure given an enormous platform by his Corsican heritage which attracted constant national discrimination, as well as his own families' outright fall from nobility; to the point where he wasn't even considered as such by the time the revolution sparked off. Genghis Khan was sure given a platform when his tribe was ransacked, pillaged of its resources & women (including Genghis' first love), then massacred & left for dead on the steppes. Even the modern Masters. John D. Rockefeller came from a family of bums. His dad was a nobody and a con-artist; Rockefeller had to start working for himself to provide for his family at the onset of his teens. He's now the richest man (in privately owned wealth) in history. His peers such as Vanderbilt, Carnegie etc. follow a similar pattern. True might rises from the depths. Upper middle class children are dweebs that usually occupy the same circles as true Masters, but fail to take it to "the next step". They are poisoned by contentment & risk-averse security; dumbed down by the idea that there is such a thing as enough. Only those that have tasted the sting of the mud can truly take this world for all it's worth.

I think the master and the slave dichotomy is important. But I think we run into some problems when we take the common depiction of these things at face value. Like you went on about how it's the upper class that creates chads and the master morality types, and it's the lower class peasants who create the slave morality addled losers. But I think this is heavily contradicted by reality, I think often the opposite is the case. "Nerds" are often from very well-off families, and many "Chads" came from poor backgrounds. Take a look at our current elites, these people are not warrior aristocrats, we are ruled by bugmen. Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, George Soros, Elon Musk. And even historically, this is true a lot of the time. This fetishization of the elite class is just as ridiculous as any illusions of the peasantry.

I observed this too. In real school jocks are usually fun and respectful. At least that was my experience. At worse they ignored some but they rarely got into problems. They were not very arrogant either. Meanwhile know-it-all and join-every-club nerds and 'smart' girls were so annoying.

This matches my experience too. And even Nietzsche said courtesy and magnanimity actually had it origins in master morality. A Master isn't some violent brute who terrorizes people just because they can. Usually those types of people are just actual sociopaths who were molded by their environment and upbringing.

not everyone's success looks the same. perspective is surely where this lies. i would not be happy living in a millionaire house if it meant i had to take down my "locally hated" flag for the sake of other's perspective about me. but thats what someone told me i had to do "put something nice like god loves you" plenty of assholes are rich. anyways a slave who made it from nothing and failed to produce a successful son is trying to say i should "be myself"(remove anything that makes me happy) so other's will like me because other's perspectives are important. well half of the locals love my flags and the big block ford, rich, and poor. slave and master. whats in between a slave and a master? am i some sort of jester? which perspective am i supposed to care about the most when they are all so different? my perspective and confirmation of it in people who bring life affirming energy to the world. a drunk old man telling me i should go to church, is not the person i am giving any shits about, i dont care if he "made" it (moved to america and got a house on an island and two businesses in 33 years) because to me it seems like he didnt do enough and he's giving his 55 yr old self a pat on the back, whilst projecting on a someone who's just made $4000 dollars off him for a job...?
