Expensive. A word synonymous to the cycling world in Singapore. However i am here to prove that it honestly is not the truth and you can enjoy the sport even without spending your life savings and having to sell off your Kidney.

My tip: Don't buy a super expensive bike as your first bike. You don't need carbon everything. You don't need electronic gear shifting. You don't need a Rapha cycling jersey. Just make sure the bike frame is right for your size. You will eventually work out what suits you best - everything from pedal type to crank arm length. Then go out and buy your dream bike. If on the other hand you find you don't like cycling, then you haven't done your dough. Just look at the number of expensive top end bikes for sale secondhand, and how much depreciation their owners had to take.

I would never buy (and still haven't bought) a new bike. All eleven of my road bikes are used and i have no issues keeping up with most groups lower than the race group. Out here, for 800 bucks you could get a CAAD10, two jerseys, three bibs, a helmet, and some sunglasses. You don't even need cycling shoes and pedals when a beginner, just use plastic clips

That’s true! I believe if you are starting off, get something used and cheaper. You can always change in the future once you are more into it. Save some budget for helmets, lights and other stuff

Clipless pedals are unadvisable for beginners, they only steepen the learning curve.

@@MJLStudios not exactly. I'm much faster out of the saddle with clipless, but it's still plenty fast

@@Shadowboost might be faster for u, maybe subjective to others.... If fixed gear riders in NYC can ride as quick without clipless... it all boils down to personal pref and pedaling behavior

Don't get a girlfriend, don't get married. That money you spent on your partner could have been spent on an OSPW or zipp 303. You can also cycle whenever and however long you want. Just breakup

There are many park connectors in SG that can bring you to many places. For example, the East Coast Park connector can bring you to Marina Bay Sands. SG has a huge park connector network (we also call it PCN) so you can actually take a look online for the map and plot your ride from there!
