Pegasus is used exclusively in targeted attacks, it's not a threat to the average iOS user, plus it uses CVE vulnerabilities to infect devices that would elude any antivirus detection measure regardless. Also, Android users are not immune to malware if they rely exclusively on the Google App Store because malware developers can publish malware as purely legitimate applications in the store (e.g. SharkBot, recently).
@svettnabb
@svettnabb Жыл бұрын
Same goes for iOS, can’t trust apps. The main difference is that you can audit and discover zero day attacks on android, that’s not possible on iOS, since you can’t audit the system. So to say you elude detection on android is wrong, that’s only if you are not looking. Which is why SOCs uses EDR tools, which btw does not work on iOS.

Technically that argument won't hold true forever. One thing in all societies is that boundaries for privacy and data get pushed further and further until they don't exist. Eventually well have smart cities, stores, homes, cars and everything in between. First we buy the phones because cool and convenience. Then the coolest this or that. And after we start accepting everything they push the absolute limit. Just food for thought.

I don't use antivirus but I do use Brave as my browser, with JS disabled by default, alongside routing all phone traffic through Quad9's DNS (which has a very large list of malware domains that it totally blocks) so it's not like it's completely void of security. I figure that, combined with the fact that I only use apps from app stores (and I'm careful to only use reputable ones with good reviews that are clearly legit), means I don't have to worry too much. Plus, regarding spyware, I'm not terribly concerned because if the government wants to know more about my phone usage, they can get it pretty easily because Google records way too much as it is. That's honestly part of why I don't use antivirus on my phone: I don't want to spread my data out among even more companies. Quad9's DNS is private AND secure; same with Brave. So yeah, the fewer companies that have my data, the better.

I have tested every antivirus I could get my hands on after installing a malware beforehand on purpose. Only one product can remove it out of every single one, guess which one? Google Play. Only that one has permissions low level enough to be able to plainly remove phone threats after they already managed to get the permissions to prevent deinstallation. Every other antivirus failed, because it needs to open a popup to uninstall the app since the antivirus lacks system permissions. And with the malware having access to usability services it can simply close these popups long before you can acknowledge them. So never give malware usability permissions, because it is literally all they need to compromise you. All the other permissions are setup by a macro.

"Imagine someone's trying to assassinate you and they get access to this, you're pretty much done." I'm my own antivirus in that regard. I wished you'd have used a more relatable example. On a more standard note: Haven't had a breach in my entire life (and I don't use antivirus on my desktop at all.) But Google mass signed me out of everything today because my 4 month old phone, including only the stock apps (most of which I have disabled) was flagged as having malware by their auto detection. I don't know if it actually does but I'm pretty annoyed at this, and it's another point for "smart phones are pretty stupid." Anything too "easy to use" is also too time consuming to precisely control.

Many people [I don't] use their phones to pay for stuff [tap and go] . In fact they will have their whole lives on their phones, because everything is electronic these days. Most don't have Faraday cages on their wallets and phone cases. Basically ANYTHING that has some computing ability and network ability [wired or wireless] is inherently vulnerable to attack. You can harden such devices to reduce the risk, but it is never going to be zero, no matter what the platform.

It bugs me that some people is still recommending 3rd party antivirus for Windows desktop when it is well known fact they never catch up with changes to Windows security model . A few exceptions on vendors like Kaspersky or Sophos . Microsoft Defender is genuinely secure and the linkeage with other security measures, as Core isolation and so, make it even better. @@scootbmx01 Well, true to be told, all of today's security products need the net to achieve higher degrees of protection. A couple of malware projects of current time, can easily defeat any standalone security product. but would be hard to defeat the entire OS. @prototry

Short answer: You don't. Slightly longer answer: You don't in 99.9% of the case since mainly two reasons. Firstly Linux system is built to be secure with free and open source software taking up most of the applications availability on it. Second, Linux user base is still a lot smaller compared to Windows or Mac although in recent years the number has skyrocketed. Attacking a personal computer running Linux is not worth it considering you could reach much more people with the same malware on Windows.
@stpeepy

Linux malware generally tends to be targeted toward large servers or IoT devices so as a home user you're usually safe. It probably helps that most people install software through trusted repositories (pacman, apt, etc.) so attackers lose user installation as a vector broadly speaking

I have gotten this question myself as a technology consultant, and my answer will never change. My answer is, no matter what the device, if it has an internet connection, you need to get a anti-virus program installed onto your computer and cell phones also invest in a VPN service. You never know what you might stumble upon, and anything is possible. Anything that can connect to the Internet is automatically vulnerable to attacks.

I guess you are not really good at your job VPN sell the data, and give it out to the government's. There is not a single VPN company that doesn't do it, otherwise they wouldn't exist Antivirus is not needed if you do everything within the system and with major aps only If you want to go "offline" the only thing might be tails , since not even Tor by itself is all that sage As someone who has done a lot in safety, ssl certificates, VPns and many other security programming, all I can tell you that having android or iphone is safe and nothing is needed, but at the cost of giving all your info to the government.

Do not ever install an antivirus if you own a Samsung phone or if you want a lagging phone or massive battery drain fun go ahead as all Samsung phones are installed with McAfee antivirus no way to removed it. You can see it at Setting > Device Care > Device Protection. Look closely on this page an you will see this lightly gray text [ Powered by McAfee ]

So how do I protect myself from someone in my house that has already installed Spyware on another device with a different number. Did they get all my info.?...bank accounts, email and passwords? do I need to change everything to keep it off my new number and new device or is there a anti software I could use to beat this problem?
