The South African union penny was minted from 1923 until 1960. Most of the coins are quite common, but tucked away among the millions of these coins minted lies an undiscovered treasure! Treassure such as in a 1933 red-brown penny that graded MS66RB at NGC. It sold for nearly R120,000.00!
In this video, all the coins are covered from 1923 until 1960. Estimates on their value are given, including the proofs, Extra Fine (or Extremely Fine), About Uncirculated, Uncirculated, and MS-graded. Some of the values do vary wildly, so the values might actually be higher.

Here in Buenos Aires when I was a kid there was a large dealers lot of QEII SA one Penny coins in red BU, virtually all dated 1960, except a few dated 1959, of which I bought one, so I have both dates in my collection. Also the same dealer had a few BU silver tickeys, so I kept a 1953 (I always like first dates for my collection as I collect only type-coins) and a 1960 because it was in choice BU.😅

Sometimes is hard to tell apart red from RB, I guess some may stand somewhat in the middle.

Yes, especially on the border. I don't know if you know this (apologies if you do), but remember that RB refers to red AND brown and not red-brown. For a coin to be classified as RB, it needs to have 15% or more red remaining. See kzfaq.infoCnF329Wwal8?si=iqwOYhauxAuYVL_i

I would not sell any of my GV penny collection, which includes MS 65 and 66 1923, MS 65 1934 and MS 64 1933. I have every date and multiple examples because they are the weirdest imperial pennies in the world, full of the oddest ghosting and quirks. Great video on my favorite penny!

@@penniesshillingsIt is 80% red RB, and it was 1200 US if you are interested in keeping track of such things. I have no regrets.

@@penniesshillingsIf you are interested in keeping track of such things, it was 1200 US, Bakewell Collection. It is RB, but the obverse is full red and the reverse less so. It was worth every penny are far as I am concerned. Cheers.

Cape Kombuis Afrikaans speakers took the word 'ou lap' meaning old rag and slanged (slang means shortened language) it a bit and it transformed to ollap pronounced ol-lap also meaning the lowest denomination in money. Other words spun from ollap used pre 1970's were 2 bob (later 20 cents) and twalap meaning idiot.

South African half cent ? 1908 ? I offer half a million USD for it. This proves time travel for sure. The first mints of Rand and Cent came in 1962 - 1964. In 1908 all was Pound ,Shilling and Pence
