As I reviewed the form, the 12 roads of Tan Tui, I realized, there's no way anyone is learning fighting from this without a lot of guidance. There's a lot of mechanics I found were not explained or made obvious, fight theory that isn't present, and an overall strategy that is implied but clearly not trained. Yet early Republican Chinese martial artists extolled the great attributes that Tan Tui helps a fighter gain...
I have decided I will make an online course out of the 12 Roads of Tan Tui, but the focus is actually not on the form itself - though it will be part of it. The objective of this course is helping YOU to fight with the skills within the set. There will be 3 sections in the course:
(1) solo practice to harness the "jolting" power of Tan tui and be fluent in the sequence's movements,
(2) paired training for which you'll need a partner to explore the techniques, and last but not least
(3) six tactical games you and your partners must try to beat each other at to master the tactics.
The course will also go beyond just the form itself and recommend other Hui Chinese kung fu technical solutions for self defense and combat that are within the traditional repertoire. I want to see these traditional martial arts thrive and earn a living doing what I'm excellent at.
Drop a 💪 below if you're interested
I'll begin finalizing it soon!

The movement is so comprehensive and efficient in its execution that its possible to see why Tan Tui is often understood to be the mother of many systems in its teaching. Thanks for sharing!

Tan Tui is taught sometimes in our style as the first form. Truthfully you could just study Tan Tui itself and have a complete style. One reason why it is adopted by so many schools. You can teach the foundations of kung fu or dive even deeper into it. Love the applications! Line 4 is my favorite

I agree it's got a lot of good stuff.. I've found it kind of encapsulates a lot of northern Chinese boxing!

It's not a back fist, another video explains the stance and if you need more clarity, an online course is on the way👍

Wow, so this martial art is learned backwards? So dumb. Chinese MA sucks for the most part, when it comes to fighting, but I like Sanda. There might be a couple of others that warrant attention, but not this one.
@arbogast4950
@arbogast4950 8 ай бұрын
It's only learned backward if you're doing performance wushu. Northern Longfist is better than more popular styles like Wing Chun. Add jabs and hooks to Longfist, and you basically have Sanda.
@americanosbadassius9292
@americanosbadassius9292 8 ай бұрын
@@arbogast4950 I'd have to see it tested in real time with the jabs and hooks added to see if it's as effective as Shan Shou, but it could be. With a history as long as China's, you never know what you might find that's been obscured over the years.

@@americanosbadassius9292A lot of Sanda/Sanshou's origins are rooted in Northern Longfist, and "Tan Tui" is a Northern Longfist style. Lots of long guard, whipping body attacks, powerful kicks and sweeps, and many clinch throws. Sanda/Sanshou basically just "sport modified" the already existing Northern Chinese self defense methods (and removed the more brutal, nasty methods like fish hooking, eye gouges, bare knuckle strikes and back of the spine/head attacks). If you wanna see good "Tan Tui" attacks in the Octagon, watch fighters like Muslim Salikhov and Zabit Magomedsharipov, they were both Northern Longfist/Shaolin trained.

It sucks when you have no one to directly teach you. Kung Fu is like the Algebra of the martial art world. A sifu wont give you the answers of why and instead expect you to figure it out yourself. Its the mindset of your not learning if i give you the answers which I know can be very very frusttating when you just want the answers so u can move on and train. Often you have to look at other martial arts or just think of how body mechanics works in order to undertand the applications from forms.
