It’s important to have your own independent lives so that you don’t get your feelings hurt when these types of things happen. If you have a friend who just completely forgets your existence when they get with a new partner, that is probably not a very good person or friend but if you have a friend who still cares about you, who still responds to your messages, who still tries to meet up maybe once in a while, even if it’s less frequent, I think that’s a good friend and she’s probably doing her best to make room for this new person in her life and keep you in hers at the same time. This is the nature of the world. We are all trying to find a mate. I’ve been really lucky with my friendships that my friends have all had partners and some have gotten married and I’ll always get the random texts just checking in and the “hey I miss you, let’s meet up soon” texts. I really cherish it. Good friends are hard to come by, let’s allow people grace.

I believe Vivica, I've given clothes, money a car even a free place to stay. One day out shopping with this witch I forget to transfer my wallet with my credit cards, cash, etc. into the crossbody purse. I decided to see if this witch would help, I saw an on-sale blouse that I wanted it only cost $95.00. This witch had a few $100.00 bills when she paid for her purchases I asked put this on your bill and I'll pay you back as soon as we return hm. she said no, I can't do that right now. This witch was staying with my husband and me rent-free for over a yr. didn't even buy food. But, when we returned back to my hm. I called the shop put the blouse on my card and helped her pack that night. She went to a hotel. She called me for at least two weeks but, I never interacted with her again. She would always say, you have so much and I'm a giver but, she thought that train was going to last forever, I watch one's behavior when I'm tired you will know. Nothing is worse than a cheap friend or user male or female.

This is what I say… It’s very dangerous to invest all your time into a new relationship and forget the people who are there for you before you got into this relationship because this relationship may not work out and so you’re going to need people to be there for you

I’m not married to my partner yet, but I also do NOT want to get to a place where I’m so in loved that he’s all I can think about or he’s the only way I can function. I do NOT want to be THAT ENTRENCHED in his love because I am my own person with my family, friends, hobbies, life, etc. I am my own individual before I am anything else in this world. As I tell him, we can share a life together and live a life of happiness, love, peace and blessings. But, i don’t want us to lose ourselves in us. I don’t want to be like the women or men who lose themselves in their partners bc their SO enamored with being love. I don’t want that..because often times those same people end up losing their identity in their partners. And if the relationship does not last, it’s usually those same ppl who you hear saying, “I don’t have anything or anybody” because they lost themselves in their partner. No, I don’t want that.

When you get into a serious relationship you usually spend the most time with that person especially the first few months ( atleast me anyway). Even before I got married I'd still check in with friends but the " hanging out" wasn't as frequent as it would be if I were single or had no kids. You have to find a healthy balance and make time where you can but don't cut off your friends entirely..thats foul.

We all need balance. You need time with your partner, family, your friends and yourself. Not all relationships work out and if you have support elsewhere, it’ll be easier to move out of a bad situation. That being said, when a relationship is new, especially a marriage, family and friends should take a step back and allow the couple to settle into their new life together.

You find out who your real friends are when relationships get involved. If you or they start acting funny, it wasn’t real. I maintain my friendships because they are important to me.

I'm the single one with no kids out of my friends. They all married with kid's, I lost a child. And at times I wouldn't contact them, because I'm like oh they got they family etc. I don't want to intrude or what not.. But boy do they love me, they kid's too. I had a sibling like this...she would call talk to me everyday when she was overseas at college and the minute her friend visited her she stopped communicating ... when her friend left after 2 weeks she then started communicating with me again and I asked my sister if her friend left and my sister said yes... and I said “oh I figured that’s why you started contacting me again ...” girls are just like that... they prioritize your worth in their heads and reveal what you meant to them when things switch up... I haven’t spoken to my sister in years... to my mother in like 6 years... they only try to contact me when they need something from me

Depends on your lifestyle. If I saw my friends a lot weekly bc I always partied with them as a single woman, then obviously getting in a new relationship not only means talking to them less but also not hanging with them as much, since those single activities are no longer appropriate when I get committed. Now if I always texted my homegirls once a week but then acted like I couldn’t text anymore just bc I got committed, THAT is completely different.

I recently lost my best friend for that exact same reason, kinda. Long story short, me and him were always the single ones out the group of guys. Once he met his girl I knew things were going to change and sorta had to mentally prepare myself for that. Once they made their relationship official things did change. We didn’t talk as much or hang out as much, but I was truly happy for him because I knew this was something he wanted for a very long time. We even spent a good 7 months without speaking, sorta just grew apart. I eventually reached out because life is short and that was my best friend… we ended up catching up and it seemed like we were in a good space. Finally, something ended up happening where I said something out of pocket, his girl got offended, and he cut me off. I wish him and his girl the best though. No hard feelings.

I'm blessed that my friend didn't change on me she got married. We still do our weekend catch-ups, we still talk and text and her husband don't mind me being a 3rd wheel on certain occasions lol. I give them their space and respect their boundaries so they don't mind me being around lol 🤣💯💯🙏

Ironically this is my number one sign of maturity. Once you get to an age where you understand (initially) when you start a relationship, you should spend as much time with him. And friends that get this....are true friends. If you even slightly feel upset that your girls aren't calling or texting as much, that is a wake up call you need to work on boundaries and internal growth.

No they don’t suffer. They adjust to accommodate the presence of someone new. There’s only so many hours on a day. If someone gets added to the mix you have the same number of hours to now add in another person. No way you can go to brunch every Sunday like you used to if someone else (a parent moved locally, a boyfriend, a child, a new job) or anything else comes in your life. Anyone who catches feelings for a change in frequency of contact is a needy peon.

I don't think switch up but always realise that relationships are important. Friends of friends who get married will realise that priorities will change, friends won't make you pick or should be THAT self centred. I always have the idea that if my friend and her husband up & relocate to another country....she ain't going to stay behind because of me as a 'friend'.... that's entitled!

I felt like when i was married or in a relationship, i still made time for my friendship but once they found a new boo things completely change and things were not reciprocated the same to the point where i gave her space to boo love. When it was me who was in something, i wasn't given space to be in all into that person. They would call me when i was with my man at that time and when i would try to get off the phone, they would make things difficult. They would make me feel guilty if i couldn't hang out like i use too when i was married. Then when they finally met someone who is now her husband, things didn't go the same way. When i would called her out on it, i became a problem. So needless to say we are no longer friends.

I think its important to know what type of friends you have… because I have been in a situation where my best friend who I’ve known since high school she never got in between my man and I when we started talking then dating and when everything was going great I had an amazing boyfriend who I was madly in love and he became my best friend and my best girl friend who is also amazing… but then meeting new friends and not knowing that they were the nosey type I was doing the wrong thing and telling them the wrong things about my man and so they assumed he was the wrong man for me and they told me to leave him and caused us to break up… I knew what was best for me and im an independent person and I can think for myself… my best friend at first was telling me that I didn’t need to be with him as well but she couldn’t really see and know how much he really meant to me and she was judging me and my relationship with him but I did the same thing to her and we judged each other’s feelings and relationships… but having a conversation with her about it though years later we both realize that it was wrong of both of us to do that to each other… its important to know who you are as an individual and who your real friends are and what they bring to the table because the wrong people can cost you your relationship and friendships… I had to let go of the new friends and not talk to them as much because they were causing too much of everything in my relationship…. I can say now my man and I are back together and we are happy and better than ever and hes my best friend and the friendship with my best girl friend is stronger and better then ever as well Let go of the toxic things and people that are not good enough for you and your mind body soul and spirit

I think you find out who your real friends are. Not everybody is happy for you when they to busy trying to compete. It’s only natural when your in a new relationship to want to spend time with them especially if you both have busy work schedules and a real friend would understand you might not hang out but a text or phone call at least.

Naturally yes, some for the better some for worse. Some people get distant because they are starting a family building a life etc. Others it’s because they are being controlled and can’t see their friends anymore 🤷🏽‍♀️

I'll say that I did fall off a bit but when I did reach out it was really short lived. I'm in a same sex relationship and my friends knew I dated women but when I when I got into a relationship most left... Even me bestie from grade school...
