This same motto can be used while out shopping as well. A lot of times we see things that are cute. When we are willing to admit this to ourselves at all times - what a game changer! If we don't absolutely love it, we don't need to buy it! Thus keeping our closets from being overstuffed to begin with.

My closet fell down 2 months ago….. it was a walk in closet packed to the ceiling….. I donated 11 garbage bags of clothes and shoes and it made me feel great 👍…. It also inspired my husband and daughter to do the same thing!!!

My closet also fell down! I live in a Victorian and the closet was 1.5 ft deep yet 6 feet wide ... with a regular door. The eaves were hard to get into. The lath walls were water damage and collapsed on my clothes. I now have a steel rail system that lives at the foot of my bed.

I have watched you for years. When you were not a mom yet, when you were a teacher. Can I just say, through time, you have grown and blossomed so much, but remained constant and consistently sweet. [I just remembered] something I heard Awhile back. Now I'm paraphrasing a bit here, but here goes. "Less is more. And a cluttered space is how you will feel. It affects our mind and well-being. It causes us to find trouble thinking clearly with peace of mind. So less is more. More peace. More calm. More joy. And more time for everything else in between." So that's something to ponder when also feeling anxiety and frustration. And boy is it true how much frustration and strife a cluttered area can cause. I cannot even imagine how a hoarder feels!

I just moved into an apartment, and I did my decluttering as I packed and again as I unpacked. It was so helpful...not only with space...but to get things I didn't wear to someone who would! My entire house is so cluttered I’m so overwhelmed and do t even know where to start 🤦‍♀️ when I get a room clean I feel so much better, but because the rest is so cluttered the room goes right back and it’s like a vicious cycle. I was in the same boat but recently I was fortunate enough to get an unexpected bonus at work. I decided to use it to hire a professional organizer to help me declutter. It was SO worth it. She did an amazing job and I think it will be a lot easier to maintain now that I’m in a good place.

If you live where there are seasons it helps to keep clothes you're not wearing for the current season in a bin(s). Come spring, I move all my winter clothes out of the closet into bins, and put all my warmer weather clothes back in the closet. It gives me a change to go through things and recycle/trash anything worn out, and donate anything useable that I realize I'll no longer wear. This ensures I go through my clothes 2x per year. Stuff doesn't get to accumulate much this way, which makes it less overwhelming also.

My favorite small thing I've done in my closet is putting in clothing dividers from amazon for my hanging clothes! They're all hanging in a long line so I separated solids, prints, tee shirts, nightgowns, dresses, etc. It makes it so much easier for me to find what I want to wear each day. I bought them almost 2 years ago and still going strong with that organization method!

I soooo want to paint our closet (I think it's still just the original builder flat paint or primer from '97; it just doesn't feel good when you touch it, and my daughter drew on the wall in one spot). I might be motivated to go dig up some white paint in the basement and go for it!

I loved that it was kinda small yet had all the drawers & would fit in my closet that’s not a “walk-in closet”!😃♥️ Katherine has motivated me so much & has given me such great ideas to make cleaning easier “if there’s such a thing” lol! One of the most helpful, motivating tips I use myself is to watch a KZfaq video of someone doing what YOU'RE doing! Decluttering? Cleaning? Cooking? Crafting? I look up a video and then I have someone doing it with me, and I don't feel alone and overwhelmed. ✨❤️🌻

I saw a stylist and gave my wardrobe a makeover. Clearing my wardrobe was easy and shopping for new key garments using my color analysis (I’m deep autumn-winter) was fun. I’ve tailored a few dresses to be tops and fixed the necklines to suit my figure. GREAT VIDEO

I have the metal shelves in all our closets & pantry. They are ugly & difficult. But there are coordinating hanging shelves, dividers, and hooks that help. Even plastic “sheets” to lay over the shelves to provide more smooth support.

I love the idea of taking everything out and only and sorting out the yeses instead of sorting out the no’s! It tricks your mind from these are all yeses with a few no’s to these are all no’s to a few yeses. In the past 4 years I gave birth to 3 kids so my weight and clothing size has been all over the map. I was holding on to my clothes in all the sizes because who knew where I would end up and when. Now that I’m done having kids I am excited to start going through sizes I don’t need and getting arid of things that have gone out of style in the past 4 years, or things I would no longer wear. I think this new trick above is really going to help me do it efficiently

Another tip from you that has been freeing from you is if i am holding on to something because i think I may need it again, but it costs under a certain amount, I think you said $20, then let it go. That has given me the permission to let go of things

i have a friend who has a facebook page for getting rid of one item a day in August. You post what you get rid of and get ideas and encouragement from each other. This year I am doing one drawer/shelf a day. Breaking it down that way has made it so easy!

Since this video is about de cluttering, it’s a good time to ask about all of your Dollar Tree Crafts. Do you really keep that stuff? You make a lot of stuff. What about all of the seasonal/holiday decor? Do you keep it or let it go so you can get new stuff next year. I find the hardest part of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” for me is the first bit, just consume less. I’m pretty good at reusing. My partner would say too good & that I save entirely too much “trash”. I’m okay about recycling. But trying to get myself to want less stuff? Definitely haven’t mastered that.

I recently decluttered my closet I just took everything out of closet and tried it on if there was anything about it I didn’t like it went To a friend and her two daughters I felt good about giving to someone who could enjoy the new clothes and now I love my closet ! Perfect timing. My daughters are going through a growth spurt and I need to learn to let go and not hold on to things they no longer need or can fit. It's so chaotic, but I will definitely empty the space first and keep only what they love in addition to what they need. Also, the feeling that we get after donating always makes us feel better than keeping things that we do not need.

Thats how I clean mine out too, take everything out and it makes it easier to see what you have. The stuff in the back, that you never reach for or wear -- could be someone else's favorite. That's how I like to think when I donate. I love when the boys help you, they are so sweet.

The Marie Kondo method of taking everything out and keeping only what brings joy works so well. It gave me so much more closer space and allowed me to donate good clothing to those in need.

GREAT GREAT GREAT JOB, GIRL!!! But, my boyfriend taught me these tricks, and oh my golly, does it ever work!! Go from lightest to darkest with your colors in your closet and drawers. That makes it so simple to know which colors go where in both places. Also go from shortest sleeve-length to longest in your closet, too. Just my thoughts. Love ya!

Everyday take two items you want to keep and put at one wide of closet. Somedays you will do five. Do shirts first, etc.. it wont take long.

Putting the things you love back in the closet is genius!!! I can easily pick out the things I love and get a lot done vs. deciding what to take out, feeling overwhelmed and progress gets stalled.

I just cleaned out my closet TWICE and I felt the same way so I did the same thing! I took everything out and it really helped. I finally feel like I've earned to update the inside and and install a new system. My son's closet is next and I'm so excited for us both. Thanks for all you do. Can you please link the shelves/drawers you have in the closet??

It feels SO good to purge. Great job 👏🏻. One tip that really makes me love my closet - you can install long rods across (just below the metal shelves) and use them for hangers instead of hanging them from the shelf. I had that shelf system growing up and the many stops in between would drive me nuts

Will be doing this when going from summer clothing to fall/winter. In the past I donated clothing to a women's shelter. Same goes with kids clothing. 🙂

A good organization hack for closets is to turn your hangers backwards. Anything at the end of the season that is still backwards goes into a donation bag/bin.

Your closet is an inspiration! I've avoided cleaning out my closet for years because I couldn't bring myself to get rid of my "skinny" clothes. It's just too depressing. As a compromise, I'm going to sort through and keep a few favorites to bag up and store on a shelf and eliminate the rest.
