Doberman AKC Coursing Ability

AKC Doberman Pinscher, Rocco Van Winkle, Lure Coursing at Camp Jordan on September 13, 2014. This was his first time chasing a lure and he did awesome! Completed two legs on Saturday and the third on Sunday, earning his Coursing Ability (CA) title!

This is my 100% Doberman, Louie, he is a fawn diluted half European and half American breed. He weighs about 96 to 100 lbs. I have had him pull me on a bicycle for a quarter mile straight out at 20 to 25 miles per hour per the speedometer but slows down to an even 15mph and could keep going for awhile if motivated. At our big dog park, free of me running straight out for about a 100 yards to another dog, I have seen him clear it in about 6 to 7 seconds, which is around 30 to 35 mph. They are built, powerful and beautiful dogs, not quite as fast as greyhounds, but I would still rather get hit by one of those full speed than Louie! He sounds like a galloping horse as he whips by you.

i have a 5 month old dobie and i swear, i think the same thing as i hear him running around the yard. hes almost 5 months and is over 50 lbs and sounds like a horse running :P

Sounds like a young version of Rocco. When we took him to bicycle on our local greenway, he easily did 8 miles trotting and cantering beside the bicycle. Always slept well afterwards, too haha! I'm sure Louie is a beautiful boy.

Thank you! Rocco always had a blast doing this. He'll be 9 in April and hasn't been out to a coursing field in a while, although he'd still love to go!

I was blessed with a Doberman for 10 years. Tried another dog and a friend of ours adopted him. It just didn’t feel right after the Dobe.

go to youtube channel Doggy Daycare Farm Trips. their older videos show lure coursing done everyday for their day care packs. those dogs really get into it, even the mini-dachshunds.

Coursing Ability Tests are excellent for dogs that love to chase. They have a blast. The white things on the lure are plastic bags. The lure operator will change them out when they get torn or shredded after a dog catches and destroys them.

What are she chasing ? Plastic bag ? What propels and how does that work ? I have hybrid male and enormous property boy would he love that . He can cross 5 acres in about 45 seconds ... not kidding .. solid muscle and fast as a Japanese train.

I'm sure he would love lure coursing or fast cats! The machine used is a lure coursing machine. There are some cheap models advertised online, but clubs that host trials have larger and heavier duty machines that pulley 600 yards of line. The white things are plastic bags. The lure operator will change them out every so often, when they get shredded from a dog catching them.

Ours do, too. It's becoming harder to find CABT with all the fast cat trials :/

Livestock breeds would know the angle.

He thought he knew the angle because in the morning test the bag went to the right. The afternoon test held on the same day is reversed. The dog can hear the line zipping all around the course because it's an infinite loop.

@@oldfortdobermans Yeah, I guess dogs that are bred to seriously move towards a target naturally connect the concept of angles.
