Yep she could have easily at least helped to secure the boat while the man got/moved the trailer… it can take a team to successfully navigate a public landing…yes the docked boat could’ve easily moved his boat out of the way but that isn’t the point, The man stated he use the courtesy dock when he could’ve used more courtesy towards others a lot better…Instead of opening his door and running his mouth maybe he could’ve been more successful explaining his situation calmly and asking nicely… maybe he could’ve even offered his wife to hold the lines of the boat that he WANTED to move momentarily (and for his convenience) 🤔

The guy with the truck needs to be educated on the purpose of the courtesy dock. It’s there for loading and unloading when not needing a ramp. Imagine the chaos if everyone did likewise. All the boats jockeying to get to the one courtesy dock and a bunch of empty ramps with invisible placeholders. The guy with the boat could have easily moved, but that would simply encourage the other guy to repeat his mistake in the future. The boat guy did us all a favor. Also the trailer was in no position to retrieve a boat, so the guy would have to move it anyway.

Yeah, the truck driver could (should have) seen the boat was already there. While using the courtesy dock is one way to recover your boat, it was the truck driver backing up to a ramp/ dock that was _already_ occupied that _caused_ this stand-off. That said, given that the truck driver was clearly operating alone (has an inoperative wife), it would have been easier for the boat on the dock to move aside, and I guess that _might_ have happened had the truck driver not _started_ his interaction with the owner of the boat on the dock by aggressively barking orders at him.

Blue shirt, over compensating with that truck guy doesn’t understand ramp procedure and etiquette. The courtesy dock isn’t for holding a ramp open while you go and get your truck. It’s for loading and unloading passengers and gear. What if there wasn’t a line of boats waiting and someone saw an open dock. Are they to guess that it’s reserved for someone else whose boat is four docks over on the courtesy dock? It’s pretty dang simple and it eliminates all issues. You find an open ramp, pull your boat in, go get your trailer and back it into that same spot. No one else pulling their boat in will use the same space so there will never be an instance where someone backs down a trailer and blocks it. The boat guy moving would only reinforce the truck guys behavior. Ps. If your shrew wife can’t drive the boat or back the trailer down then she needs to stfu.

When it is busy that is exactly how it works. You don't normally pull your truck up and then park your boat three ramps over. The guy in the white truck was overly impatient and decided to play the game differently then everyone else. the loser here was the guy in the boat doing it the right way. Mr impatient finally did what should have happened the first place.

Here in MN the truck/trailer dictates the launch/pickup order. But the launches here are a much different layout, you have to get in line to get to the ramp, not as much of free-for-all that these ramps are. So if you're landing the boat you either have to beach it/tie it up somewhere out of the way, or have 2 people that can drive the boat. Whoever is going to drive the truck goes and gets in line, when your turn comes up you pick a ramp, then go retrieve your boat. Tying it to a dock, blocking the lane, while you go get your truck is a huge no-no. So up here, the guy in the boat is in the wrong. The etiquette down there appears to be different, though. It seems to be that whoever is at the ramp first wins, but there appears to be a wild definition of "at the ramp". Is having lined up the truck "at the ramp"? Or does it have to have wheels in the water? Same with the boat, do you just have to be next to it? Or do you need to be tied up to have "claimed" it?

The trailer line never moves when boats are parked in the ramp! Hahaha! You are funny! Everyone park in the ramp! That way no trailer can ever back in and the line never moves! I have been boating for 40 years! Trailer in the water has the slip! Otherwise the trailer line would never move! You NEVER park a boat and tie it up in a ramp. That is what the curtesy parking is for. You can always tell who the inexperienced boaters with no common sense are. Ramps are only for on and off of your boat! If other boats are just parked there, the line never moves! I have had to steer our boat through 4 boats parked at the ramp because my husband was in the front of the line for trailers. If he hadn’t backed into the center, that line would have never moved!

Launching: After you launch your boat proceed to the courtesy dock to pick up your vehicle driver - then go on your way.. If you choose not to use the courtesy dock, you should at least not block the ramp slot while you wait for your vehicle driver. Move the boat out of the way while waiting for the vehicle driver to return from parking the vehicle. . Loading: - ALWAYS GO TO the courtesy dock and drop off your vehicle driver to bring the vehicle down to the ramp. If there is a boat operator staying with the boat, go idle around out of the way while waiting. DON"T PARK YOUR BOAT on the main ramp boat docks - this blocks all ramp usage of that slot until your vehicle comes down and you complete loading -- this is BAD form. SOLO BOATERS will generally need to park their boat at the courtesy dock while they park their vehicles or go retrieve them.

Here in California boats are supposed to stay out of the way of trailering boats. Basically you can’t park your boat on the dock in a spot where your blocking someone with a trailer in the water from getting their boat on. It’s crazy how all these people tie up before trailering. Usually you drop off the driver and stay OFF the docks until your trailer shows up. When you see your trailer show up then proceed to trailer it. You can’t just tie up for half an hour waiting for your trailer blocking other ready boaters. If your alone or have no competent drivers tie up out of the way and bring your boat in once your trailer is in place. The trailer has priority over a docked boat. It’s a boat launch not a marina.
@jamesbrett5010
@jamesbrett5010 2 жыл бұрын
If someone would have blocked the launch we we have to wait for them. Could be minutes or 30 minutes. Blocking the boat launch just adds hours of unnecessary time and aggravation at the launch site. Be ready, have two Competent drivers or captains. Train your crew so you don’t have to do it all by yourself. It’s really easy . Don’t mind a few dings. This is a fun time. If your trainee hits the dock or trailer just let it go and give them positive reinforcement. My wife is great at trailering our boat, we’ve had years boating and I never got mad when things didn’t go as planned. She’s hit the dock or come up sideways with the boat. It’s a learning experience that can be fun and fulfilling. My wife has had so many different trailering situations now that I prefer her dock the boat and if it goes sideways it’s just our boat. No need to get mad. Just use your knowledge for next time. It’s all for fun.
