With their enclosed wheelhouses, safe walkaround decks and facilities for overnighting, pilothouse boats have become extremely popular with everyone from solo skippers to first-time family buyers and amateur anglers in search of year round adventures. The only downside of this design is that it creates a lot of windage close to the bow relative to the size and weight of the boat, making the early single-engine shaft-drive boats notoriously tricky to berth. I had a wheelhouse Merry Fisher 795 and this is exactly how I was taught to do it, very informative. However the main problem in the UK marinas is you will almost never be given a berth that long and wide in a boat of this size, which makes it "exciting" when it's windy and more challenging!

What about a single shaft driven version of a pilothouse? They are notoriously tricky in any wind, but any tips?

Great ideas - but my problem with my 755, is berthing Port side to - I cant see the Dock!! It vanishes under the high gunnel since the helm is starboard side - Any ideas? I've considered a camera or even a mirror
