I make a sloppy attempt at explaining why people wear glasses. Also, you might like LASIK. I did.

The lens (which is not) you were referring in front of the eye is a cornea, and it doesn't change its shape. The crystalline lens with the help of ciliary muscles is responsible for focusing the image on the retina through accommodation.

The ray tracing starting at 6:31 is wrong. A point in the image is smeared across a section of the focus plane.

Oh, NO! I am so sorry to hear that. I wish I had some good advice, but I really know nothing about the eye, biologically. I could very well be in your shoes in a couple years, and I'm not sure what I'd do! Good luck!

Using biconcave lens to treat myopia seems theoretically correct but when I actually observe my specs, the lens seems something like convexo-concave but definitely not biconcave.... How do these lenses (not the biconcave/biconcave ones) work?
@DocSchuster9 жыл бұрын
Mihir Kavishwar Similar to smooth-transition bifocals? I think they just ease the transition between the two lens's curvatures so you don't get a line. I would need to get my hands on such a lens and play around a bit. Cool!
@mihirkavishwar63939 жыл бұрын
Whoa I don't use bifocals I am still a teen!!.... I meant one side covex other concave. In your next video you drew the shape of your specs, something like- (( except that the inner side is more curved..... Transition bifocals definitely seem cool though :D
@DocSchuster9 жыл бұрын
Mihir Kavishwar Ha! At any rate, I would imagine that the vertical focal length is different from the horizontal focal length.

Optometrist here, the type of lens most people use nowadays are called menisscus, its bascally a convex-concave lens, where if you are myope the concave part of the lens has more refractive power than the convex part, and viceversa if you are hyperope. Biconvex and biconcave lens are used in cases where the pacient has a really big refractive problem (something around -+ 10 dioptres), but nowadays we use conctacts instead of big heavy eyes-changing size lenses (sorry for bad english)

We become more myopic when we use distance glasses or contact lenses for extended periods of close work. Don't use distance glasses or contact lenses for close work. Use reading glasses over your contacts for close work.

But it also mean that you can train your eye?

Only a Qualif-eye'd Professional can properly educate your eyeball organ, you know Music teachers also teach Organ so ya might wanna consult one of them Organ Training. It is true that you can train your Organs tho ya know like your Kid Knee Organs, you trained those and now you don't wet your Pants anymore. 😜

why aren't glasses for myopia concave on both sides?
@DocSchuster7 жыл бұрын
Good question. The same correction can be achieved by being flat or even convex on the front side and increasing the concavity of the back side. This fits the human face much more nicely!

Myth or fact, does continuous wearing of eye glasses weaken your vision over time?(Discounting the effects of aging on eyesight).

lol pathetic eye thanks alot '/// I have been wearing glasses since age 1 i have Accomodative Estoropia im extremely hyperopic +4.75 and +6.00 near point each eye and Im cursed with Astimgatism -2.50 cylinder asgitmatism horrible combination to be hyperopic and have extreme astigmatism :( Im also the only one in my family with this problem everyone else in my family has perfect 20 20 crystal clear vision. What about hyperopia can they get lasik surgery? According to my opthamologists and optometrists when i rant to them about my pathetic stupid eyes im STILL considered extremely fortunate and blessed that my vision is at least correctable. I would think a person with even the strongest glasses would not be able to see due to retina problems cataracts etc low vision aka legally blind now thats a pathetic eye.
