This is very helpful. Even for an adult. Had a doctor distract me when injecting for my carpal tunnel. He had a nurse sneak up behind me. Swabbed the location with alcohol then asked a very bizarre question like 'What do you think about hippos?' Confused he immediately injected me ....and then I realized what he did. I thanked him...because I barley noticed and he was already done before I felt anything. I had told him my needle phobia...and he didn't make me feel bad. Thank you medical professionals who do this...even for adults

I feel you! I always looked the other way but the doc distracting me even just by rambling about something else (even as random as the weather) was helpful. Way better than one who did a blood draw for me and started mumbling about how he couldn't find my vein.

ᴢαɢє ツ honestly one time when I was like eight before entering the doctors office with my mom and I made her promise me that she wouldn’t make me get shots. I went in and they said I needed the flu shot, I looked at my mom with a look that said ‘don’t you dare you promised’ and she looked at me like ‘well your still getting it’ she looks at the nurse and says ‘yeah she’s getting the flu shot’ I started crying and whining that very moment. I now never trust a word my parents say

I remember docs strapping my whole body down to give me one of my shots, as a kid. THAT memory was weird, and always confused me, because I didn't think that was legal. Until I realized that my mom must've tipped off the docs that I HATE getting shots, and that must've been protocol for "my kind". But all that was unnecessary, because I'd just take deep breathes, and freeze, before I'd actually get shots. I'd never act unruly. Being strapped down is what made me agitated, and scared, and want to run away.

It is not only the doctor who is very good at distracting the baby, but the fact that modern needles are so well done that, if the doctor is good at puncturing, they are not even felt by babies. When I was a child, needles hurted.

I am a nutritionist of early childhood and i deeply care for each one of my patients but i am not allowed to show too much emotion. Still i do my best to care of them and be loving as far as i can.

My friend's pediatrician straps the babies down on their stomachs to give them their shots. Sometimes technique alone speaks volumes. I'm sure they're all qualified doctors. All the babies get vaccinated. Not the point imo. This doctor is my hero. 😍
