It’s called wanting originality in the storyline it’s simple criticism

I understand the dislike for the character and the studio over it. America Chavez is an Afro-Puerto Rican character. That part of her is very important, it plays an incredibly large role in who she is in the comics. To hire a Mexican actress is to, not only remove the African American side of the character, but to also suggest that all Latinos are interchangeable, which we are not. Every Latin group has something that is different and unique about them. Mexicans are not Cubans, Puerto Ricans are not Mexicans or Hondurans. And we’re not interchangeable. That being said, NONE of that is Xochitl’s fault. She is a teenager, in many ways still a child, who was excited about playing a superhero in one of the biggest movie franchises in the world. Nobody would turn down an opportunity like that. Hell, full grown adults don’t, and we couldn’t possibly expect a teenager to do it either. She played the character that was written for the film perfectly. However that character is not the character that people fell in love with from the comics. Her attitude, her spunk, her style, her African American and Puerto Rican roots, it’s all gone. The only thing she has in common with the comic book character is that she’s Latina, is a lesbian(even if it’s not stated in the movie), she has two moms, and she likes pizza.

I know many Puerto Ricans who didn’t like the change, because it’s a huge part of who she is as a character. And there is absolutely such thing as Afro-Latinos. Miles Morales is probably the most famous example of an Afro Latino character. It means they are of Latino and African American origins. And both of those cultures are equally important to the characters, and real Afro Latinos.

Sorry for a little correction- but I think you mean Latin-americans, or Hispanic people. "Spanish people" would refer to anyone in Spain. Unless that's what you mean then ignore me

Pretty sure they're building toward a few teams forming. There'll probably be the spooky friends (like a Midnight Suns/Sons), the Avengers youth group (New Avengers, Next Avengers, Young Avengers, Secret Warriors or whatever they wanna call it), the pseudocide squad (Thunderbolts or Dark Avengers), etc... I expect America Chavez and Ms. Marvel to join the same team, but probably not team up on their own for a movie.
