Important notes to take from this content is: avoid products that will irritate our skin, disturb the skin barrier, triggering melanocytes that will lead to inflammation-causing hyperpigmentation. Thank you, Doc for your insightful skincare content.

Thank you so much Vanita! Because of you I took some wise decisions when it comes to skincare! I made some huge mistakes in the past and burned my skin. Hi. I am a big fan of your videos, and the vast knowledge of the type of ingredients that are good/bad for skin of color. All that said, I am hoping that you can explore the connection between allergy based ingredients in skincare and dark marks, as well as texture issues caused by these offending ingredients. For instance, I have both tree nut and gluten allergies. A tremendous amount of tree nut ingredients are in many skincare products. Therefore, I have to read the ingredient listings on every single product that I am considering using. Nobody seems to have addressed this issue, and I would love it if you could explore this angle! 🙂

Oh Dr V! I started watching your videos in March 2020 while in lockdown and going through major insomnia. I remeber being so confused with all the scientific terms. But I was also mesmerised and fascinated. I could watch you speak forever. So I kept doing just that! And here I am now! Completing your sentences!! You say "Retinol is" and I'm over here saying "an alcohol" along with you 😅 you say "Glycolic acid is" and I go "my least favourite AHA" 😅 Thank you so much for educating me (and many others like me)! Love and light, always! ❤

I have a question about the Facetheory Lumizela Azelaic Acid Serum A15, in your Facetheory review video you mentioned the Azeclear A15 Serum not being one that you would recommend as it has rose extract. and after reading the Lumizela ingredients list I realized that its the same formula as Azeclear they had just renamed it. Pregnancy Videos Also I see where you always recommend a lot of good actives but many are not compatible with each other. So could you recommend a routine with actives that cover all the concerns of skin? Namely, acne, pigmentation and anti-aging. I think giving us a routine or a mix of products or actives that can work together in a routine to achieve these things would be golden.

I just found your channel and it's so informative and helpful. I have a concern about the Bioderma Pigmentbio range which I purchased for the azelaic acid content but the products caused my skin to break out quite a lot. I am unsure if the fragrance of the products or azelaic itself is causing the problem. My skin reacts well to salicylic and I keep away from mandelic acid due to allergies. Can you give me some insight? I'm unsure if I should try other brands because this is the only Bioderma range that doesn't agree with my skin.

Hi Arielle, I've seen all the videos in this channel, i'm just starting just like you and this is what i've learned. When i found this channel i was using The body Shop brand (tee tree colection) for my oily/acne prone skin. I realized that all the products had denatured alcohol and a lot of fragrance. As you can imagine my skin was damaged, hipersensitive and did not look good. This are the first steps i followed: STEP 1 - Check all the products you are using right now and make sure they are NAFE-SAFE (No denatured alchool, fragrance or essencial oils). STEP 2 - Stop using the products that aren't Nafe-Safe (it could be most or all of them). STEP 3 - Confirm your skin type (dry, normal, combination or oily) and the main issues you want to solve (rosacea, acne, pigmentation, dehidration, fine lines, acne scars, etc etc) STEP 4 - Before you start any treatment, restore your skin barrier (it is likely to be damaged if you've been using the wrong products). She made a video about that. STEP 5 - Start a new routine with only essential products to restore skin barrier - gentle CLEANSER, MOISTURIZER and SUNSCREEN. Those are the first products you shoud buy. I sugest doing that for at least 2 weeks because your skin barrier needs time to recover. For example: my new essential routine for oily skin is - Cerave Foaming Cleanser -> Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream -> Avène Sunscreen Cleanance SPF50. My skin already looks good and i'm not using any actives or seruns yet. STEP 6 - After your skin is restored you can add toner, exfoliation, seruns and actives - in this order. Add only one product each time. Note: If you have several skin conditions including inflamation (acne, dermatitis, etc) treat the inflamation first. For example: my main conditions are acne, hiperpigmentation and fine lines aroud the eyes. I will add toner, seruns and actives in this order - first to clear acne, then hiperpigmentation and last the lines around the eyes. Note 2 - some ingredients solve multiple issues at the same time like Niacinamide and antioxidants. So you can start adding products that contain these ingredents first. I hope this helps.

Hi Dr. Thank you for today's video. One question - I'm 26 year old, have oily acne prone skin, treating my skin for acne marks and acne that appears on and off. I have recently considered to start a skincare routine, after learning a lot from your videos. :) I started with a 2% Salicylic acid cleanser and wanted to know which serum I should try first Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid or Tranexamic. Please advice. Thank you. :)

Love your videos . Just a small query. As in your video of hyperpigmentation layering of ordinary we can combine azelic acid with garnactive retinol or 0.2 percent retinoids. Is it safe then? As I have been following that particular skin care routine.

There are several videos Dr. V has made on different routines in combination with layer skincare products depending on what your skin type is (dry, oily, acne-prone, combonation, sensitive, etc.) or what your trying to achieve. An Example of BHA, AHA & PHA Night Time ROUTINE: 1) Double CLEANSE- • Miscellar Water Gel Cleanser • Cleanser Suitable for what your skin type is or needs. 2) TONER Suitable for what your skin type is or needs. 3) EXFOLIATER/ ACTIVES as in AHA (Mandelic, Gylcolic or Lactic Acid, etc.) or BHA (Salicylic Acid) or PHA (Glyconolactone, etc.) *Watch for the Percentages of these Actives* 4) SERUM Suitable for what works in Combination with Actives. *Make sure the % of Serums are at the right percentage or it can irritate your skin* (Example of Niacinimide: Oridnary Niacinimide 10% + Zinc 1% vs. Glossier Niacinimide 5% + Zinc vs. Naturium Niacinamide 5% (this one has no Zinc, etc.) Paula's Choice 20% vs. Paula's Choice 10%) -->Eye Serum & Eye Cream

I think skin of color can use so many things if we are mindful and not only care and feed our skin with the proper products, but also wear a zinc oxide or titanium dioxide sunscreen and a wide brimmed hat. Hi, I am so glad I found someone who talks about skin of color and understands it well. My skin is lighter, extremely sensitive, have acne and have very dark hyperpigmentation patches on my skin. I have been struggling with it for ages and have used peels and creams as well. At the moment I’m using ordinary AhA bha peer weekly and FCL aha lightening get HQ (this also has hydroquinone and other components. Pls have a look at the ingredients if you can) I am thinking of adding azelaic acid by ordinary and alpha arbutin to get better results. Could you let me know if I can add them to the routine and how?? I also deal with acne a lot. Would really appreciate this! Thanks.

Hi again! Since you're a doctor I would like to know the connection of pimples around mouth, lip line and your gut health ,hormonal health. Or of their is something else going on inside our system causing this. Pimples on lip line is very painful and has led to pigmentation resulting in a dark lip line and lip corners. Is their something which we should not apply around mouth area?

The way you described the formulation of the Azelaic Acid cocktail sounds like a very good product to use and I would love to have it!! @@NYS30 nope it didn’t cause any purging for me personally. I would say use it for another week or so to see if it reduces. It doesn’t exfoliate the skin too much so i don’t think it should cause a lot of purging. Maybe get some professional advice to make sure it’s purging and not irritation 😊
