So, a little bit of fact about this episode : the Doctor's speech was recorded only once. One take is all it took for Peter to say it perfectly, the whole crew was astonished by the performance and most reactions we see from them are genuine because his acting is absolutely amazing. And I say that while I wasn't a big fan of Capaldi when he first became the Doctor.

Capaldi's Doctor is essentially everything Matt Smith's tried to hide. I like the theory there's a subconscious indirect control of the Doctor's regeneration (mainly evidenced by how the Doctor went from a semi-passive and caring Five to an arrogant and commanding Six based on the events that happened as Five), and I think the change from Eleven to Twelve fits this as well. Eleven's change is to be who the Doctor is instead of hiding it beneath the facade of a bumbling child, and that's where Twelve comes in who embodies everything Eleven hid, but he goes through the arc of not being sure if who the Doctor is, is a "good man" or not. Eleven has certain moments where the facade goes away and you see who he truly is, the facade is completely gone when the young face is removed in place of the elderly, wise, tired man who doesn't know who he really is because of hiding it for so long.

except (for new who at least) the "real" doctor was Ten. even when he wanted to hide his true self, every single one of his emotions were written on his face. That's what he became after Rose healed Nine, he was at his happiest in s2, and then, after losing more and more, regenerated into Eleven with a carefree and childlike attitude to try and forget all the loss he experienced. Eleven then spends 800 years protecting Christmas Town, committing to a place despite previously not being able to stay at one place for a day, immersing himself into a community, and being his kindest self for the people, because in the end of the day that's what he strives to be and who he is. And then all of it is thrown out of the window when Twelve comes in in s8. Suddenly he's not compassionate anymore, needs guidance to find kindness within him, he's calculated and cold hearted, letting people around him die, when 9, 10 and 11 would cherish and mourn every soul they'd come across and lose. No, Eleven didn't hide Twelve. Twelve is 800 years older than Eleven was for 99% of his run. If anything it's a transition, but that is poorly written, bc Eleven getting tired and suddenly growing cold in his years spent on Trenzalore makes no sense to me. Twelve is better in s9 and thankfully s10 exists, where he's still grumpy but only seemingly cold, when in reality he's truly compassionate. His s8 characterization is a disaster though, and doesn't tie in with Eleven

Peter Capaldi is one of the best doctors. Many trolls and haters targetted his average era for not being the most consistent. @@chriszone50 Then the speech in The Doctor Falls is actually not as good, since it is about the Doctor questioning the need to be cruel if he has to stand alone in that situation. It leads to him committing suicide afterwards because of how that speech was responded to as much as the fact that he had to relive fighting a desperate, no good outcome battle. As well as the fact that the Doctor knew that Cybership in The Doctor Falls is the exact same one he encounters in Tomb Of The Cybermen when he was the Second Doctor. I do not approve of that suicidal end at all, by the way. This speech is shouty, because he is drawing on personal knowledge of what happened in the Time War. This speech is many times greater because of what he is talking about, as much as it is what every Doctor would say as passionately.

Watching them (and Aaron tear up) and declare that Peter is their favorite Doctor, idk man, it just felt super rewarding and satisfying. And then later Shane came in paying respect to Jenna and her amazing acting this episode. Everyone loved that. I can't believe I was ever nervous about their Capaldi era reactions. Back then, I was worried they might not like 12 or Clara (as 12's companion) as much as previous Doctors or companions. I never dreamed they would love both of them, and love them THIS much. Twelve's most defining moment. Out of all the Doctors, I truly believe Twelve has the most profound speeches and lines, which really sees how torn apart he really is and yet he manages to have a such a love for everyone and it's honestly beautiful to watch and listen to. It's also amazing how very relevant and topical this is given our current climate; everyone always demands justice in this world, everyone wants to revolt against the corrupt establishment, but human history is an endless series of revolts against establishments, and those revolts create new establishments, which will, before long, be revolted against. By far one of this show's greatest moments and a great story in its own right, which is more than could be said of the next episode...

Remember the treaty between Zygons and humans was made before Capaldi even became the Doctor (literally, one episode before) so there were two Osgoods before we even MET Missy. And then Missy killed one and that's why you see one Osgood mourning at the grave of the other one at the beginning of the previous episode. I don't feel like the Doctor was saying that this exact situation has happened 15 times, just that Kate or other people (the Doctor and the Osgoods excluded, they're supposed to know) found out the boxes were empty 15 times. If they'd gotten this close to all-out war 15 times already, I'd like to think they would have changed a few things around. So while it's still statistically more likely that the original human Osgood is dead, its not as unlikely as you think.

As some others have said, the dead Osgood was the one Missy killed. The one we see in Truth or Consequences at the start of the previous episode is the one that gets captured and the Doctor rescues. Also, just because the boxes have been used 15 times, doesn't mean an Osgood died each time. So Calvin's 50/50 odds each time isn't something that makes sense. Based on the Doctor's interactions with Osgood and him asking if she is the human or zygon it's reasonable to assume only 1 Osgood has ever died.

The thing that happened 15 times was trying to convince Bonnie. 14 times before the Doctor failed in presuading her so she pushed the button only to realise they did nothing, only for the Doctor to wipe their minds and try the speech again but differently. Watching Eric cry at my favourite Doctor Who moment was insanely satisfying. I'm glad they love Capaldi's speech too - he's just so good! And the thing is; the Doctor might have erased his final sin of the Time War, but that doesn't erase two Timelord lifetimes filled with the worst war in the history of the universe. We know that many of the higher species were completely wiped out simply from getting caught in the crossfire. The Timelords committed horrible atrocities during the Time War, and the Doctor was a part of that. Gallifery's apparent destruction is certainly not the only genocide he has had a hand in.

A lot of people don't like Capaldi's run as the doctor, i've always loved him and this two parter in specific. I'm glad to see how you guys see him and that he is Eric's Favorite Doctor. For the longest time I said that Tennant was my favorite doctor, then I rewatched recently and I really loved Smith, and watching again right now I really love Capaldi. Each time I rewatch I love each doctor a bit more.

Thing I've noticed most people look over is the fact about the doctors speech, it's emotionally powerful with the doctor having to expose something very personal about himself, but he says to Kate that they've been doing it 15 times, which means he's had to expose himself REPEATEDLY! Constantly having dig up his pain to help save the world

I disagree with Shane, I'm a hundred percent sure no other actor could've pulled the Zygon Inversions Speech off as good as Peter Capaldi. It's pretty easy to say, that no one could've topped that, because it's the truth. Sure, they all brought something personal and different to the show but no one could've done it quite as emotional and impactful as him. I can see that Shane doesn't want to give Peter all the credit, probably because he still loves Matt Smith's and... Clara's approach, but man this was actual insane acting. I'm in awe of Peter's talent and I think he deserves all the credit, especially because it was a one take scene that he nailed right away. No one could've done it quite like him. After all these years I'll still come back to this scene and get teary haha.

I find it interesting that Rory was technically older than the experience of the doctor at the point that he knew the doctor and even for a while after. My experience I mean obviously anytime the doctor does not remember living kind of doesn't count considering but it doesn't affect the doctor's personality the same way and calculating age of a being that regenerates and exist outside of time is kind of complicated

Yes the War Doctor did a lot of horrific things during the Time War, but let us not forget the 11th Doctor endured protecting Tranzalore for 900 years. That’s twice the lifespan of the Doctor when he started. Imagine the pain of seeing all the people he cared about and fought with dying during his watch. What will that do to a person? Well we don’t have to wonder any further as the 12th Doctor tells us in this epic scene!

Osgood did die in Death in Heaven. The Zygons didn't murder any Osgoods at the start of the episode. The grave was merely a reminder that one of the Osgoods was already dead. Later on, when the Doctor says "you said that the last 15 times" it's only the conversation itself that's happened 15 times, not the whole incursion.
