Was 'Empire of Death' empirically good? Or was it a dog of an episode? Find out in this video (note: there will be spoilers!).

Yes, mixed bag about says it. Thats how I’ve been describing it. Lots of good moments, but it didn’t hold together all that well

Another great review. I really enoyed the episode despite feeling like lots of things weren't answered, or the answers we got didnt make much sense. As others have said, why/how could Ruby make it snow? Why was her mom so hard to find for so many people if she was just a normal person? How did the doctor get back to unit and the time window without getting dusted? Despite some of these things it was still experly acted and the show had a lot of emotional weight.

Agree that Ncuti's and Millie's acting was top notch. :-)

So many unanswered questions. Why can Ruby summon snow? Who knows apparently. Why was her mom pointing to the road when no one was there to know ruby’s name? Who knows. Everyone lived and had 0 stakes? Sure, why not. Even colonel dude…no tension. 0 Susan…meh. Overall like 6/10. I had thought Ruby was her own mom or Susan was the mom. Meh.

It was very fortuitous that Ruby's mum dropped her off in a spot where there were conveniently located CCTV cameras!

I enjoyed the episode, and I'm really happy with the Fifteenth Doctor. Ncuti owned the role and made it his own. I agree the cloak and pointing seemed like it was there just as a dramatic device to make Ruby's mom mysterious, maybe before RTD had truly decided who she was. Regardless, I'm bummed it's back to waiting for more Who! The season went by too quickly.

It definitely went by way too quickly! I miss the old days where we got 13 episodes per season.

It's an ok episode in some parts I love the callbacks to "Pyramids of Mars" and the memory TARDIS but I didn't like the way Sutekh was defeated it felt to get out of jail free card and i didn't like the ending with Ruby and her mother I didn't care for it it felt like watching a soap opera not Dr. Who.

Yeah, all that build up in Episode 7, only to have Sutekh defeated by a whistle and an occy strap!

Best episode of the season. RTD is such a troll !! oooh look here's a random woman and baby-, could this be Ruby & her mother and the Doctor saves her? Nope. oooh look here's Ruby looking like Jenny in the take Suki for a walk scene -- could Ruby be related to the doctor via Jenny ? Nope Ruby being an ordinary girl - gotcha (and fits in with a Steven Moffat interview about Boom where he said " Russell asked me to treat Ruby as an ordinary girl") Susan Triad being *not* Susan whilst still being integral to the "destruction of the universe) and simply being an otherwise "normal" person (other than the whole Clara implications about being present in multiple timelines & locations) (BTW the explanation , I believe, for the DNA database still existing is because any point the Tardis had ever visited was a fixed point in the multiple parallel timelines that exist and therefore there are multiple parallel extinction events. Timey wimey) As for Ruby & the Doctors "au revoir" scene I really liked the way that Ruby asked him to stay with her and join her on her adventures before closing with "oh but you don't do that though do you" . Plus we have The Narrator closing the season with "And that's how the story of the Church on Ruby Rd comes to an end, with a very happy ending for little Ruby Sunday" , which is a nice touch following on from the "au revoir" scene although in some ways it is a shame we already know Millie has been involved with filming for next season. Finally there is the "Mary Poppins"ending, more teasers for the future? "Who is Mrs Flood" , now read that as a statement not a question (or, given all the classic callbacks, could she be The Watcher from 4 to 5's regeneration??) Then back to "Spoon Lady" , is there more significance? Could she be the Doctors real mother thereby taking us back into the Timeless child arc. NB Those of you outside the UK without access to iPlayer may not be aware of the second significance of the Memory TARDIS. It was the setting for the 6 episodes of Tales of the TARDIS that were shown in the runup to this Season. Oh and one last thing for all those that were unhappy with the extremely Doctor light "73 Yards" , I loved how this episode fully justified that episode and made it make even more sense (although the lack of explanation for the snow is a thing). Not related to this specific episode but jumping back to Day of the Doctor, can we now presume (with a bit of retconning) that The Curator is a bi generated version of 3's Doctor living his life out in the same way as 14 is living his life out with Donna?

RTD definitely likes to tease the viewers! Interesting theory about Mrs Flood perhaps being a forgotten incarnation of the Doctor. I did wonder whether she was an incarnation of Susan? Re: Tales of the TARDIS, I didn't know about that - unfortunately it's not something Disney+ is showing (pity!).
@panman19649 күн бұрын
@@purplecelery7380 Disney+ also isn't (currently) showing every single episode of the Doctor. Again that's on iPlayer only. There were 6 Tales of the Tardis the premise being a Classic DOctor plus a companion (or just companions) meet back up in the memory Tardis and relive one of their classic adventures (ie a classic episode with an intro and an outro from the actors in character) so we had: #5 & Tegan reliving Earthshock Jamie & Zoe reliving The Mind Robber #6 & Peri revisiting Vengeance on Varos Jo Grant & Clyde returning to The 3 Doctors Steven & Vicki dealing with The Meddling Monk #7 & Ace facing The Curse of Fenric

another (possibly more plausible) theory is that Mrs Flood is the latest incarnation of The K'anpo Rimpoche / Cho-Je, the Tibetan Monk who was a timelord who had also chosen to stay on earth, and who assisted #3 to regenerate to #4 in Planet of the Spiders
