Nyder was my second favorite character his unwavering loyalty to davros was so fascinating to me kinda makes me think he wasn't just davros's henchmen I think they were close friends

I also have this serial on a vinyl record. It works wonderfully as an audio drama, using the TV audio track plus some filler lines to bridge the scenes. It's available as an audiobook.

Shortly after Michael Wisher died, a documentary named I Was a Doctor Who Monster was released. Dedicated to Wisher, it described him as a man amongst monsters.

Haven’t seen it in a while, I almost forgot exactly how much of a classic this story is. This video made me want to watch it again

9/10… I was bored and even annoyed by the Daleks during the last few serials they were on coz the plot wasn’t good and the Daleks annoying and even unneeded. But this one here really brought the excitement and fire back these Daleks needed. The design, the plot, the cast. Everything was on point. The origin of the Daleks and the introduction of their planet Skaro was really fascinating. OFC this mission came from The Time Lords lol What was really got me going and excited was the introduction of Davros! His setting, looks and characterization was frightening and really well written! He is definitely one of the best villains like everyone else was claiming before I started my DW watch. I’m on my first time watch of DW 1963 and now here. I was upset that Harry wasn’t more involved even though he did kinda saved the Doctor three times and had a lot to do in the first episode. Sarah Jane had a lot more to do. I was shocked about how brutal this serial was and people acted like we never had so much before which isn’t quite true. Especially during the Hartnell era there were a few heavy serials with a lot of moral and brutal outcome of it. But this one here was really something else in a good way! I was shocked that Sarah Jane’s escape plan did cost a few people their lives! The 4th Doctor was right not to kill off the Daleks! Because even with erhielt evilness something good will emerge and come out of it. Look how many people fought together, built a new society after their heavy encounters with them. I do think sometimes bad things have to happen to let you grow and become better. I was so positive surprised that they even brought up old encounters with the Daleks! Great twist at the end that they gained a will of their own and turned on Davros!

I saw this when I was 8 or 9, I rewatched the other week for the first time, and remembered so much of it. I think I saw it during a series of repeats which also included Curse of Peladon.

Batman has the Joker,Dr Who has Davros. Man I was scarred when I saw the video in 1979 for the first time. But Micheal Wisher what a brillant actor. To bad his commitments to the stage. Did not give him more time to play Davros. I can only imagine if had lived. I think he would have voiced one of people in Batman the animated series!!!!!

One of my absolute favourite Doctor Who serials!

Just a thought, Michael Wisher portrayal is even better when you have to consider that he had to make something of the character of Davros while being heavily made up with the make up/costume that he wore. To still show the character shine through under the prosthetics is quite an achievement.

I would’ve really liked to see Jon Pertwee during this.. I Love Tom Baker already but Pertwee had something on him that made his doctor work. I would’ve loved to see his take during the scenes with Davros and later on when he was forced to tell him about the failure of the Daleks!

I like Genesis of the Daleks

A very common concept used in Big Finish is about the Daleks being a necessary evil because the creatures that can stop Daleks are far worse than the Daleks and even more jeopardising to the universe.

While not one of my favourite stories, it's really mostly enjoyable and has great writing and characters.

"Do I have the right?"

I think this Dalek tale with no special coloured Daleks of special ranks like Emperor Daleks and or Supreme Daleks is rather odd but the coloured Daleks black gold and red are awesome

A great story, but I've always felt that some of the impact of the story was undone by subsequent Dalek stories. Davros essentially asserts to the daleks you need me, but is proven wrong. Destiny of the Daleks, undoes this and makes Davros right after all.

I strongly suspect had this seasons stories been Jon Pertwee he would only have his one female assistant Sarah and no male assistant of any kind

I think the notion of the Doctors TARDIS not been in this story was a shame because he and his assistants are trapped without their space time ship erractic as the Doctors TARDIS is the time ring idea is really fckg stupid because them TARDIS crew been stranded on Skaro makes them more vulnerable than when they have the TARDIS with them

I wonder if this story and the rest of the season 12 stories Robot Ark in Space Sontaran Experiment and Revenge of the Cybermen would have been well served as Jon Pertwee stories had Jon stayed on as the third Doctor

Guy Siner was best known to British audiences in the 1980s as Lieutenant Hubert Gruber from the WWII Occupied France comedy Allo Allo. He played an actual Nazi, albeit a rather camp and unthreatening one played for laughs. The Nazi analogue he plays in GotD is far more sinister.

4:00 What exactly are you using as your point of reference for "the Doctor" ? Because according to Tom he didn't play anything but Tom. Same for Pertwee before him. They played "idealized" versions of themselves.

It’s a must watch for fans and newcomers of course, but i find it drags a bit and is slightly overrated. Not a story from season 12 i revisit a lot. Michael wisher is easily the best davros we have ever had tho!! Great claustrophobic atmosphere in this story too. 7/10
