Interesting who-fact: They originally had an ending that didn't include rose....but preview audiences didn't like it..so they went with the ending you see. Wilf was included in the series cause the actor who played Donna's dad in runaway bride died previously..so they included Wilf! Gotta Love the Adipose! They are so Cute! Series 4 is such a fun ride! Doctor's/Donna's adventures are EPIC! You are going to have so much fun!

Donna Nobel was originally written to just be a one-off companion for ‘The Runaway Bride’. When Russell began writing Season 4, he originally conceived an original character named Penny Carter to be Ten’s next companion. She was to work as a journalist, would have boyfriend troubles, and (in Davies’ words) was to be Donna Noble-esque and a bit of a klutz. Around this time however Catherine Tate made it known to Davies that she was interested in returning to the show for a full series if offered, so he decided - likely early on in writing - to bring Donna back and relegate the original companion concept into a minor character. She became the journalist we see, portrayed by Verona Joseph throughout ‘Partners in Crime’ and the rest is history.
